Just some random notes on beer at wdw from last week.
The food and wine festival is going on, and there is a lot of beer around and there are a couple of beers that I haven't seen regularly at epcot at the stands (e.g., there was a thai stand with sing ha, a pretty standard lager, I didn't have one here though; I think I noticed an Indian beer, too).
There are a couple of stands dedicated to beer, but it was mostly the usual suspects that you already find around world showcase (sam adams, boddingtons, guinness, harp, labatts). I did notice red stripe, which I don't remember around the showcase usually. Didn't have one though. One beer that was pretty good was at the german stand, lowenbrau's octoberfest, a nice malty beer that was pretty good.
Let's see. I went to crews cup one evening, and I felt like the beer list was a little bit down from last time. There were still around 30 beers, but not a lot of standouts to me. Let's see, I had a Tucher's hefewiezen, a mcewen's scotch ale, and a yingling (sic) lager there.
It seemed to me like the resort stores had gotten a little more standardized (let's see, I happened to notice the stores in wilderness lodge, beach club, and yacht club). Just the macrobrews with heineken and corona being the imports. I remember getting bass at the wilderness lodge mercantile many times, so that was a bit of a let down. I did drink both a hieneken and a corona from the beach club store one night when the sierra nevada in the fridge ran out; I should have just gotten a bottle of water though.
I never made it to big river. We did have a meal at akershaus and they didn't have ringness but had carlsberg (Danish beer in Norwegian pavillion? Still wish they'd get some Aass bock in there). Melissa had one, I just got a coke.
I was excited to go to rose and crown because last time we were down they were rehabbing the bar and the waitress told us they were going to get six new beers on tap there. But it was the same beer they've had (they had replaced tenets lager with stella artois last time I was there, and they still had this set up - stella, guinness, bass, harp, boddingtons).
Oh, they had sierra nevada pale ale at whispering canyon for lunch - I don't know if you can get that in the territory lounge there now or not. I hope so, it would be a good addition.
But this is the really huge news that inspired me to bother posting:
The BIG epcot news is at the beaver tale stand at epcot. Canada now pulls ahead of rose and crown and the germans to rule for beer in world showcase, or disney world for that matter, hands down, because the beaver tale stand now has four bottles from unibroue - la fin du monde, maudite, blanch de chambly, and trois pistoles. That's some really good beer, folks. That is the best thing that has happened in Epcot in my memory right there. They are 5.75 a bottle, which isn't very bad at all if you consider that moosehead or labatts is about the same price at the stand across the way. A bargain I'd say. I hope that everyone who enjoys beer stops by the beaver tale stand and has some, and supports this fairly bold move towards good beer from the Canadian pavillion. Heck, try one of each. I didn't try one of the beaver tales, but they look like flat pastries with flavoring on them; a chocolate or a berry one would probably be awesome with a la fin du monde. Anyway, way to go Canada!

this November.....

I just wish I could actually get to WDW one of these days (three trips postponed due to ...Well, that "h" word)...
