It's been almost 12 years since my last Disney Cruise so I'm a bit behind the times. I know that you can bring on 2 bottles of wine/champagne or a six pack of beer, but as we all know, booze on the ships can really hit your wallet hard! I've read that there exists 21 oz beer mugs that you can purchase that are refillable (you have to pay for refills but you only pay for 16oz but get the full 21 oz). Are the mugs still a thing with the COVID restrictions? How much does the mug cost?

Any other money saving tricks, tips, etc for drinking, or is it just "is what it is?"

The mug thing is OK. And yes it's still a thing. $14.95 IIRC for the mug? I actually prefer the buy 5 get a 6th free thing for beers. I buy the "Survivors Package" or whatever it's called to get the included softsided cooler, and then keep refilling it 6 beers at a time. It's my constant companion onboard, lol.

Love that your profile pic fully supports your post. Well done!

So with the mugs while you did take your mug back, they typically don't refill it right there - they fill a new one. So it's more like a mug exchange than a refillable mug, in practice. And I wouldn't think that would be a covid risk any more than using a glass at dinner that goes to be washed afterwards and used by someone else.

Hopefully a recent cruiser can speak up as to whether they are still doing the mug program right now.

One thing we saw new after Covid was Happy Hours at certain bars. They will be noted in the Navigator App and the bartenders will tell you about them. You may have to ask but in chatting with some we found they would bring it up.

If you're a fan, the ultimate tip for drinking is, in one word: Tastings.
For $25-$45 (depending on the tasting) you get a good amount of booze and if you're not careful you get pretty sauced real quick... As an amateur I need to go after lunch or dinner and go slow or else I'd be KO in my SR for the rest of the day. But if you can handle 4-6 shots/cocktails within 35-50 minutes, it's the perfect way to get your booze fix. If you're a pro you can do 2 a day and that's less than spending $12-$20/ea cocktail/shot/beer during any given day.

We were on the Wonder last month. Yes they are still doing the beer mug. We have had the "beer token" since 2012. We prefer draft beers.

We were on the Fantasy, debark on 10/24/2021. I purchased the beer mug early in the cruise, not sure how much it was. I exchanged it for the card (token) when leaving the pub. Easier to carry... I tried three of the beers over the course of the voyage and found the taste of all three to be a little off, still drinkable though. I think they need to clean their lines and renew their kegs. I didn't try any of the beers in any of the other locations. I picked up a fresh mug on the day before debark and am happy to say it made it home safely.

The beers were Stella, Blue Moon, and O'Gills (their own). They were out of the Kronenbourg 1664. Also on the menu were Loose Cannon, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, Unibroue La Fin du Monde and Bud Light, and, Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock, but I do not know if they were available.

I remember reading several years ago, pre-covid, the glass mugs were 21 oz. If you were a the pool bar the mugs were plastic and a little smaller.

A few years ago I did a beer tasting on the Dream. We basically sampled the beers they had as the host talked a little about them. I was fortunate, I got more from the people I was sitting with than from the host.

Hmm have not heard of this. Tell me more...

You're not able to use the refillable mug on subsequent cruises correct? It just goes home as a souvineer?

This is my favorite tip! If you're a fan of the Drink of the Day, get your drink in the Adults Only area of the ship. The drink size is significantly larger than you will get in any of the MDRs, or any of the clubs.

I put together a short video to show exactly how much difference there is. I was surprised. Even after spilling some of the liquid (I had just had two drinks after all!)

The drink on the right was from Signals:

Great tip! I'm not a huge drinker but I always enjoy trying the drink of the day, usually from the Quiet Cove. Since our upcoming cruise is our first with a kid, I'll have to make sure I dart in for the DOTD instead of getting it elsewhere. :)

You can reuse it. We usually trade in the mug for a 'token' which is just a card that DW slips into her travel phone case for reuse on the next cruise. She's got one right now...waving it around...saying it's only 13 days until we leave for our next cruise :D

As a late anniversary gift I signed up DW for the Reserve Whisky Bourbon tasting for our July Wish cruise. It's $100/ea, but I bet the drinks will be supremo

I will drink a passport by myself some nights in skyline. I’ll go thru 5-6 of them a cruise. (7nights) My wife will share some with me.

We were on the Fantasy sailing leaving 4/9. There was no longer a Passport option at Skyline and they weren't sure when it'd be back. They were also not selling the beer mugs due to a supply issue, but seemed to honor those that brought their own back.

The bar staff wouldn't directly say it, but I got the sense that the inclusion of St Petersburg was the driver for not offering the passport. That city no longer shows up on the rotating cities on the wall and the drinks from that location no longer appear on the menu. Hopefully they just need some time to re-work the passport before offering again. The bar staff was terrific this cruise, so even without the passport or beer mugs we weren't really disappointed.

You can also bring on beer/wine when you get back on at the port. As long as you are still within guidelines you can bring it on.
