Beer Exchange

DCL lets you bring on a six pack of beer for personal consumption. We have a small brewery in our city that just started canning so I thought I would initiate a beer exchange. A few took me up on the offer and it was pretty fun. Well, to be honest, I was really just offering to share what I brought on board and didn't expect anything in return, but some decided to give me favorite of theirs in exchange.

My question is, does this violate DCL rules since I am giving out what I brought on board to someone else? I don't think so, but I was starting to get curious about it. I want to promote the idea a bit more in our next cruise group, although I will admit it is a bit more difficult to do when you are flying.

Anyone else try this? Anyone else interested in trying this?

You may bring up to 6 beers per person aged 21 and over to be consumed as you wish. Now, whether it's consumed by you or another.......? I don't see it as a violation, as long as you don't bring more on than you were allowed to.

That sounds like a neat idea and I know DH would have loved to participate in something like this.

Going strictly by the letter of the rules, it only says that each guest over 21 may bring 6 cans/bottles no larger than 12 ounces and that they may not be consumed in public areas. Specifically absent is the phrase "for personal consumption" so unless you were cracking them open in a lounge your idea would definitely not be against the rules as they are currently written. As long as they are only being traded or given away with no money trading hands I don't think there would be a problem.

You would also want to make sure they are of drinking age. This would be one area that could be a problem.

That's a brilliant idea and something I'd definitely sign up for! Great thinking OP!

Can't wait to exchange some Bud light for Guinness :drinking1

OMG! That is too funny!

Thanks everyone for the perspective. I know folks have their favorite craft beers and when I visit another place, I like to sample some of the local brews. I thought this would be a good way to try something different.

Perhaps we can call at a BE instead of an FE!

I agree that it would need to be verified as over 21, so leaving it hanging on the cabin door wouldn't work very well. LOL ... So it means actually finding a meet up.

Great idea! Are you still allowed to bring on another 6 pack at each port? I know we did this our last cruise right after they changed the rules.

:drinking:That sounds fun! I work at a small brewery and I am hoping that we will begin canning before our cruise in July. I might have to bring up this idea for my cruise at some point!:drinking:

Yes, any guest aged 21 or over can bring onboard up to 2 bottles of wine/champagne (750ml) OR 6 beers (12oz) on embarkation day and from all ports of call.

Great idea. I live near multiple craft breweries and go to festivals a lot I would love to do something like this on my next cruise
