Been to Disney many times and never knew (please feel free to add yours!)

In general, unless you are asking for the bathroom, take some of the information that a cast member gives you with a grain of salt. They make up a lot of stuff for fun :)

With that said, it is FL so where there is water there is bound to be a gator somewhere. What probably happened after the cast member was told that there was a gator was call animal control. They then set things up to capture it and release it in wetlands about 50 miles from the park. (one of my good friends works animal control for disney that's how I know this)

Maybe, but I did see him with my own eyes. This isn't some sort of myth. Is there really that much reason to have him removed? I also saw, again first hand, an alligator in one of the ponds on the golf course.

What I meant by not believing what a CM says is about the keeping the gator just there not that there wasn't one. I have seen a few gators at disney too :)

You have to have it removed because he can become a danger to both guests and CMs. Especially if they begin feeding it. Then it will see people=food and next thing you know it will atack someone b/c it thinks they have food even if they don't. The truth of the matter is that they have alligators everywhere there is water in FL. Most of the time they stay away from the areas that have people in them but they do go there too (after all, the entire park used to be their land-along with all of FL! ;) )
Always make sure to let a CM know when you see one. The gator will not be harmed, just moved.
I was at CSR once and there was a 4ft gator (A little guy) sunning himself by one of the walkways. People were around him and saying things like "Oh, how great that they even have animatronics at the hotels" DH and I (who are in a way used to this sort of thing) took control of the situation. He kept people (and kids) away from the animal while I notified a CM and animal control. The man then came and got him (that's actually how I met my friend I mentioned above) and took him about 50-60 miles away. DH and I got to go with him and we've been friends ever since.

Another thing I learned previously - you can't bring balloons on the AKL hotel property. You have to check it at the front desk and get it back when you check out of the hotel.

oh my!
probably so the animals don't accidently eat one :upsidedow

There are small trap boxes all over the properties that evidently trap some type of vermin....they were all over the place at POR, around the hotel hidden in the bushes and along the road in the bushes. Saw cast people coming to change the boxes - what is in them??? I used to see those armadilla everywhere and haven't seen one in a couple of years unless they all were gone during the hurricanes :sad2:

Over the years we have seen a few small gators at different hotel locations, Port Orleans (2) small gators and once at the BCV a larger gator that everyone loved to feed, which they did remove, with all parting guest empting their frig, he/she was well fed and getting BIG. We were told that when they get to a size they feel is a danger to all they move them.

ok, I have never heard about the gum discouraging. Also never heard about the hidden mickeys. Can anyone explain that please?
The hidden mickeys are the three circles that make up mickey hidden around the park. I purchased a book on hidden mickeys that is like a scavenger hunt through the parks and any Disney property ie the resorts. It looks like fun and my DS6 is really excited to look of the HM's. :cool1:

You can also buy a refillable cup for something like 8-10 dollars in animal kingdom and refill it for a dollar each time you go.

I never knew that there is a wave making machine under the water near the Polynesian, that years ago they used to create waves to resemble the South Pacific, but it began beach erosion, so they quit using it. But it's still sitting under water.

Along with a bunch of other machinery, my cousin who worked at Dis (and snuck me underground once!!!!!) told me they dump all kinds of stuff into that lagoon.

We purchase the refillable resort mugs each time we go. They are NOT good forever, and the sign advertising states clearly that they are only for the current visit. That is why they change the design each year. However, I still see people using old mugs (we go to POR and still see "Dixie Landings" on some mugs each time), and to Disney's credit, I have never seen a CM stop them. We feel like it is a good deal each year, we don't want to pack the old ones, and we don't feel comfortable using the old ones just to save a few bucks. My DD5 said her favorite place was where she got hot chocolate everyday (the food court), so that made the mugs even more worth it!

I didn't know there were wine tastings in the countries!! We can't wait to do that this year!

tell me more about this....sounds fun

I never knew about All Star Cafe... (Like the ESPN) but much larger. When someone recommended going there because espn was overcrowded we thought it was in with the All Star Hotels.... No.. its in the Sports Complex where they have baseball games....

Great place!

If I buy a cup at BB, can I use it for the next day at TL? and we are going 2 more times after that, can I use them then too? Is it free refills for all those days, or do you have to pay for that day even if you bring a cup in?

Did you know that if you ask an attendant at the monorail, that they'll sometimes let you sit up front with the driver?

DD (5) and I did it on our trip last September, and the driver even gave her a "driver's license" - she LOVED it! :cheer2:
