Been home nearly a week from awesome Bermuda cruise...

Hope you guys do a report with some pics!
We're sailing Sept 2019 to Bermuda and I can't wait!!

We're sailing on Magic to Bermuda October 12, 2019. 5 night cruise. Can't wait. We plan to drive up to New York the day before. Can anyone suggest a decent hotel for one night for 5 people (3 adults & 2 kids). Everything I've found will only allow 4 people. We would also be willing to stay in New Jersey if nothing is affordable in NY.

We loved ours too. First time to Bermuda and fell in love. Would not hesitate to book this again in the future.

Doesn't Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones live most of the time on Bermuda?
Maybe the OP meant no poverty and no one harassing you to buy something. We were told the average home costs $950,000.

Wow! Way different from the caribbean!

Yes, Michael Douglas & family does live in Bermuda. Our dear friend who lives in Bermuda gave us an awesome tour & did point out where the Douglas’ live.

What are the downsides of caribbean islands?

Yeah - What does that mean? I have been to Bermuda twice and I love it. I don't think I would compare it to the Caribbean at all. A main reason is the climate and location make everything way different. I am always happy to support the proud people of the Carib - or any port for that matter.

If this is what it meant: As long as I feel safe, I'm all for helping the poor/feeding families by encouraging local economy. These people work hard and I have tremendous respect for people who work hard.

How was the weather for water activities like kayaking or swimming?
We just returned from the Oct 19 cruise. The first two days the weather wasn't pleasant, but as soon as we got to Bermuda, it was beautiful! We went to Horseshoe Bay - no umbrellas on the beach that day due to the wind, but the sun was shining and the water was nice! I was in about 20 minutes, just enjoying the waves! Bermuda is my favorite destination - the locals are kind, friendly, and everything is clean and safe. I love it!!

The locals are amazing. We rode buses, walked the rail trail etc. on one of our trips there (by air). So friendly. We were waiting for the bus to take us back to Hamilton and some locals in a convertible stopped to give us a lift back to town! Bermuda is an awesome destination!

...and still reliving this fantastic experience. Bermuda is beautiful. It's kind of like being in the Caribbean without the downside of the Caribbean islands. Highly recommended!
We will be going fo the first time in May on a different cruise line. I would love hear what you think the “must do” list is. :)

We usually cruise with Disney but did this same Bermuda itinerary with Royal Caribbean last year. Absolutely loved Bermuda... it is an expensive island but beautiful:)
Hope to go again, it's a great cruise out of NYC.

Regarding the downsides of Caribbean Islands, I would include the street vendors pestering you half to death, the feeling that you'd better hang onto your purse, and general lack of cleanliness, and of course the sadness of the poverty outside the tourist areas. Beautiful beaches and great snorkeling, though.

I highly recommend the Turtle Cover glass bottom boat and snorkel excursion. Our guides were wonderful and gave us more information about the island during our 25-minute boat ride than our Island Drive guide gave us in five hours the day before. The boat was comfortable and the water was just the right temperature on a hot day. It was fun to see the tiny fish swimming in and out of the coral.

It's touristy and probably not a must-do for everybody, but we enjoyed browsing the shops around the Dockyard where the ship was docked. They were just an easy walk from the ship. You can find everything from $7.95 T-shirts to beautiful hand-made ceramics and glassworks. There's jewelry, too, made from the famous pink sand on the Bermuda beaches.

Oh, and don't miss the Bermuda Fudge Company in a little kiosk near the dock. Yum!

All caribbean islands are so different.

I've never been harrassed by vendors in Cozumel or Grand Cayman... Nassau a little. Jamaica was intense.

I've never noticed a lack of cleanliness except in Nassau but not the last time I went there.

Also, poverty and extreme poverty exist everywhere. I mean, I get harrassed for money by crack addicts at the corner of my street.
