Been hearing the Poly is having cleanliness issues?

I am a complete nut about cleanliness and germs, and have never had a problem at the Poly. We had an issue with ants on the patio area coming in under the slider, but maintenance came quickly and took care if it. We were offered a room change too. The only cleanliness issues I've noticed were from guests who put their room service trays out into the halls. That is gross. Funny, I didn't notice guests doing that at the GF this summer.

Looks like you have stayed at the Poly ALOT - so good to know! Thanks! :thumbsup2

Switched reservation based on this tread, I hope i did not make a huge mistake.

YEP, and I'm one of those people! HUGE issues -- HUGE! Filthy shower curtains, filthy around toilets, sulfur-tasting water in rooms and at Captain Cook's. DD and I both got bitten multiple times in bed -- seriously think there were bed bugs. Dismal service at the restaurant -- not 'Ohanas, but the other supposedly nice one. This was all last March -- don't know if there have been any improvements. Anywhere else, they would not be able to charge NEARLY as much for such "quality" than Disney. We'll never stay there again. Sorry to be a downer, but since you asked ...

Have you given any thought to WL -- BEST and CLEANEST Deluxe, IMHO!

I think thought that the water issue was a FL water issue. The water has tasted like that to me since my first trip in 1982.

What did you switch to? And on such short notice?? :confused3 I haven't switched, given the fact that most people give raving reviews of the resort and on other travel review sites, it gets great reviews...obviously this thread (which is 9 months old and somehow revived) is going to bring up issues that were had. I am just going with the belief that if there is a problem, I will let the appropriate people know and get it worked out. :wizard:

We switch to the GF. I always wanted to stay there, but when we booked originally there were no main building rooms, so we booked the Poly, but then based on what people were staying i figured a outer building room at the GF should be as good as the poly. We will see, only three days to go.

Looking forward to your review!!! Have a great trip! :yay:

No offense to anyone, but I think anyone would be crazy to change their reservations over this thread. I have stayed at the Polynesian almost every year ( ok, sometimes more than once a year! :) ) and I have NEVER ONCE seen an issue with cleanliness nor have I been disappointed in my stay and we are neat freaks.

I feel like the Poly has a sense of magic to it that other resorts don't, and the location and monorail transportation can't be beat. Those of you that have reservations...don't change them! Give it a try for yourself and I don't think you will be disappointed!

Thank you!!! DH said, very firmly, that we will not be changing this ressie...unless we come into some extra $$ and decide to go CL. The Poly it is...

I'm staying CL in December...first time...I can hardly stand it I'm so excited!

You will not be disappointed in your stay, even without CL. Poly is such a beautiful resort.

I agree. The Poly wouldn't have so many loyal fans (myself included) if it was gross and dirty. I love reading these boards and helping out when I can, but everyone has their own opinions. I have a friend who still bashes the Poly because of a minor issue ten years ago!

Oooh!! I'd love to hear a review...do you have a DP? Because we do and I'm wondering if that's just too much food, though, just having the breakfast available is wonderful!

You will LOVE CL at the Poly. It will be a lot of food with the DDP, but that makes it even better! The view from the CL makes it worth the extra $$.

We stayed a week in Jan 2010 and our room was very clean, and kept so during our stay. No problem with our room at all. It was perfect.

My 1 complaint is the hallways. They were never vacuumed, same dirt, food crumbs and wrappers in the hall all week :confused3 For the price we pay for staying there, I've never experienced this kind of lack of cleaning the halls.
We never had this with any other WDW resort. At AKL I constantly saw CMs in the halls vacuuming, spot cleaning carpets, etc.

I have to agree about the Poly hotel management. Common areas/halls were not kept up as they should be.

Us too :). We've stayed at the Poly before but not CL, so that's what I booked for our December trip. I have read so many great things about Poly CL that I'm excited to try it too :goodvibes. I've made several resort changes since I originally booked in February, but my DSs want to go back to the Poly.....so Poly it is :thumbsup2. We love the Poly after only having stayed there once, but I'm already wondering how Poly CL will compare to GF RPC as far as food offerings, views, etc. :rolleyes1. But I do agree that the Poly is a beautiful resort and you can't beat the beach for fireworks and the lovely grounds :wizard:.

.

Public areas (hallways, club lounge) were also kinda groddy throughout our stay. Room service dishes--not ours, but those left by other guests--stayed in our hallway for DAYS (and stunk!), despite the hall often being filled with multiple housekeeping carts. They just kept walking by them until we complained. Totally unnecessary.

This was our experience as well. It was our first time staying at deluxe hotel and it was a big let down. Especially after reading how many people loved the POLY. We also felt the rooms were dark and dingy feeling. Needless to say, we never returned.

WE have stayed 4times in the past 4 years. We would not want to stay anywhere else. Go with basic expectations and enjoy the magic you will find for your own family.

We stayed there a week ago and our room was clean. I noticed some of the tiles were worn out in the bathroom. I think it is time for them to do a refurb. But it didnt bother me any I still loved staying at the Poly ! But it wasnt dirty and we liked the room :thumbsup2

We stayed at the Poly for our honeymoon and I simply couldn't have asked for more. We didn't notice any problems with cleanliness in the hallways or our room during a 4 day stay. I'm sorry that some people have bad experiences, the Poly has so many die-hard fans, it can't be that dirty! :goodvibes
