Bedspreads and blankets

I was under the impression that the bedspreads, blankets, and sheets are all changed when one person checks out before the next person checks in. However, I've seen a comment here and there indicating that this might not be true. Obviously, the sheets are changed, but what about the bedspreads and blankets? (PLEASE tell me they change them for each guest!?!)

I don't know the answer, but I highly doubt every hotel washes the bedspreads between every guest. Including Disney. But maybe they do?? I always take ours off and put it away in the closet anyway because of an episode of Dateline NBC I saw a few years ago. ;)

I've seen mousekeeping take off the blankets, I think they are fine. :)

I didn't see Dateline... what have I missed? (I hate to hear it, but I think I need to from what y'all have said!)

ewwww:eek:

I'm not sure about Disney hotels but I worked in the hotel industry for aobut 10 years.

We always changed the sheets daily or at least between guests (some guests choose not to have the sheets changed daily).

Blankets were cleaned once a month - unless we knew of an incident and then as necessary.

Bedspread were cleaned about once every three months - however all the hotels I worked had a turndown service - so the housekeepers took the bedspread off everynight.

I've seen them change out rooms between guests, they do not change the blankets or comforters. Think about it this way--how often do you see fresh blankets on a cart in the hall, or dirty blankets in their laundry bin? Seldom if ever, and there are people checking out every day.

EEewwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I never and I mean never have sat on the bed spread. The funny thing is when Dateline was on I laughed. My Ex and my son used to make fun of me for how I was when I get in a hotel room, I know I won't die from germs but I am sorry, that is so gross even thining of it. I am going in November and will pay for concierge just to have a sheet over the blanket but they are all booked right now. I will pay to have double sheets in a regular room, not sure if this is the answer but I have to get this out of my mindd before November :D

Last year when we stayed at the Hampton Inn on vacation our comforter had a huge brown stain on it that was still damp. It stunk. We called to have new everything on the bed. I was told that the blanket was fine, but I wanted a new one since that huge brown stain touched it. I had no idea what that stain was. Ewww.

I too saw the Dateline and it was a big wake-up call. I don't like to have my skin against the spreads ever since... I mean think of the people who pick there toes while sitting on the bed...sit on the spreads nude and it only gets worse from there...
I take a throw blanket with me to curl up with during any day-time naps. I leave the spreads on the beds but turn them back. I also bring my own pillow cases a lot of the time:rolleyes: just b/c I like crisp cotton against my face...
They definitely don't wash the spreads between guests:earseek:

I watched that show also...eeeeew!

One of the first things I ever do in any hotel room, is take the cover off and throw it in a corner and then check out the condition of the blanket and sheets.

You can ALWAYS call housekeeping and ask them to bring fresh, clean comforters.

GailT - My family makes fun of me too. Whenever I travel I take my little can of Lysol. As soon as we get in the room I spray the toilet, knobs, shower, etc. Even at Disney the cleanliness defintely varies from room to room. I always turn down the spreads. I saw the dateline show too - ew!

During my two week stay August 2003 @ Coronado Springs Resort, after two days housekeeping didn't change the bed sheets. I took the sheets off (left on floor) and put a small pen mark on the sheets to see if they were the same or not. When I got back and checked they were the same sheets  I was so upset, called housekeeping and had them bring clean bed sheets. After another two days the sheets still weren't changed so I called housekeeping and asked again for clean sheets. I also would remove the bedspread and leave in a corner but housekeeping always put them back on the bed

What can I do to insure that the bed spread is not put on the bed? How often do you get clean bedsheets? What about the other blanket under the bedspread, is that clean?

I'm just curious, do you change your sheets everyday at home? With all the environmental concerns in the past years, the hotel industry is trying to do its part (and cut costs too) by cutting down on the amount of laundry. Have you seen the signs in the bathroom to please hang up your towels if you don't "need" to have new ones everyday? I worked at a nice hotel doing housekeeping for one summer. As another poster mentioned, blankets are changed once a month and comforters every three months. Concierge level rooms will double sheet the bed, with a top sheet on either side of the blanket so your skin doesn't have to touch the blanket. That being said, if it really bothers you, call housekeeping and ask for a new blanket and/or comforter for your bed. You could ask for an additional top sheet too, so you could double sheet the bed yourself. I myself take off the comforter or try not to touch it when I sleep. Thinking about it too much will make you crazy. I guess I believe that I encounter more "nasty" germs on doorknobs and restroom sinks ect. than I would have to worry about at Disney. At least, that's what I keep telling myself!!

We always bring a can of Lysol and spray everything down. That is a must!

Here is what I do. I have a duffle bag in it is 1 blanket 1 comforter and 2 kids sleeping bags. When I get to any hotel doesn't matter where including Disney. I put the blankets and comforter in the corner of the hotel. ( my kids and hubby know not to touch the bed till I change it.) I make the beds. We do take our own pillows also. Last year at the Poly the mousekeeper would take my stuff off and and remake the bed. Which she was only doing her job. I just asked her to please leave my stuff on the bed and she did. I do that at any hotel we go to. I have never had anyone not do it. Everyone that travels with me laughs at me. I am the big joke at work also. but I don't care it is kinda funny. This year we will be at DTD hotel for 3 nights then to the Beach club for 4 nights then on the Wonder for 3 nights. I have not decided whether or not to take the duffle bag on the cruise. You can only take 2 bags plus 1 carry on the ship. I probably will be maybe not. I'll see as it gets closer. My trip is 6 weeks away. Brenda

I'm really curious as to what so bad with the comforter/breadspread.

never saw that dateline everyone is talking about.
