Bedspreads and blankets

I think I'll skip wiping the remote and just stick it in a ziplock. I too use Lysol in the bathroom areas.

I remember once we had to stay at some dive motel in Atlanta (that's what I get for not making reservations!). That place grossed me out so bad I didn't sleep that night. I wrapped my head in a towel so I wouldn't even touch the pillow. Gross big time!

Oh, this thread is so funny! You've got me going from gagging to giggling. Last weekend at a waterpark hotel, my DD vomited all over the floor of our room (swallowed some water of course). I cleaned that mess as well as if that had been our floor at home. Things happen, usually to us  Thanks for the laugh guys. Beth

:hyper:
This stuff is too funny.... and then it's not!

Last year, we had gone to Opryland Hotel, in Nashville, TN. My dd's were ready for bed, when what to my surprise, when I turned down the bedspread, AND the top sheet, I found a really disgusting bottom(fitted) sheet that apparently had been used (without going into details) and not changed. Not a stain mind you....but fresh -
eeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

Of course, after 2 calls at 9:00pm they finally came and changed it, but the kids were exhausted and having to wait in your p.j.'s for the housekeeping staff to come is not fun!

So lesson learned:
Always check the whole bed, not just the comforter!

.....and we'll all stay happily ever over til we have to leave!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

How can you enjoy your vacation if you are going round your room disinfecting everything in site ?

I didnt know they didnt change the bedspreads after every guest. Now that I know, I am very surprised , but will not be removing them from the bed or spraying them with anything.

I couldnt enjoy my vacation worrying about other peoples germs. If I did, I wouldnt go in the hot tub, use the pools, eat at the restaurants - especially the buffets!

If I did see anything yukky I would call mousekeeping immediately. I wont deliberately go looking for it though. If you go looking for something hard enough its sure to be there!!:p

Just my honest opinion.

Hmmm, maybe I should start saving for my own vacation home:p

It's not a bad idea ;)

There's a good article from a Hotel/travel pro in USAToday Fri/Sat/Sun.

1) Bedspreads changed every 3 months.

2)The most germs in a Hotel room are: TV Control, Phone and Thermostat. Bring Antibacterial wipes and wipe them all down.

3) Ask the Bellboy if your room is a "good" one,,,if not, let the bellboy call down and get you a better view/room. (I doubt that this would work at WDW, though!

What do you do when you get to the parks? Wipe down every ride car before you get on? So many people get on and off those rides everyday, I think you would be more likely to catch something there than on a light switch or remote. Do you fly? The recirculated air is full of germs, maybe should wear a mask. The point is you are exposed to other's germs all the time. I don't worry about it and just enjoy my vacation.

I don't worry about germs so much, because as many have pointed out they are everywhere ( I don't spray Lysol, etc.) What I DO worry about is feces and semen which are found all over hotel bedspreads (and walls, I might add... ) Since hotels don't wash bedspreads between guests, I pull the bedspread back and try not to touch it too much.
This thread has been hilarious to read~

I bring a small bottle of antibacterial hand wash and use it often. My DH has a bad habit of rubbing his face a lot, and was getting sick sometimes at WDW...so we tend to wash our hands a lot also...and we make a effort not to hold on to the rails! It's possible to do.:D

I'll admit that I'm one of those that folds back the comforter on any hotel bed. But there is no way I'm packing cleaning supplies and going over the whole room when I check in. I do not cook on vacation and I'm darn sure not cleaning anything either.

As another poster (or two) has pointed out, there are germs EVERYWHERE and I'm not going to spend my vacation thinking about them. We take appropriate precautions, but I'm not making the family wash their hands after every ride either.

It's also important to remember that a certain amount of contact with germs is what strengthens your immune system and keeps you healthy. :D

Love this idea!!! I hadn't thought about that one.

Ok, I'm one of the clean freaks...I readily admit it. I lysol everything before we use it. I even take stuff to clean the tub and sink since I have small kids who won't take showers, just baths. We don't touch the ice bucket or the glasses in the room...we bring ziplocks and our own cups. Since we drive, we all have our own pillows and blankets for napping in the car that we use them in the room, too.

My dh, however, is just the opposite. When we stay in rental condos, the first thing I do is wash all the dishes and the ice bin....the first thing dh does is get one of the glasses out before it's washed, gets some ice out of the bin and gets something to drink....just to watch my face ewwwww!!!

It's now a running joke between us. He thinks I'm the only person in the world who worries about this stuff...but now I see I am not alone.
:p

I think the Disney Hotels are most likely CLEANER than some of our homes.:o

I was thinking exactly the same thing;)

OMG I hope its more regular than every 3 months for bedspread changes....

If that is so I WILL be removing the bedspreads!

And Ducklite as of reading this thread I have started the saving fund for our vacation home;)

Could we just spill something on the bed, like a coke or milk and have housekeeping come bring a new spread and blanket. Are the ones that come from housekeeping cleaned or used???????Will they know what we are doing because not everybody knows about the spread or blanket issue.

But are you going to rent out your home when you're not there? Same problem....except the people are doing it all with **your** stuff. LOL

When I was little, I always slept on the floor wrapped up in the bedspread from the bed of whatever hotel room my parents and I stayed at. So did my brother and we spent a lot of time in Vegas. That's a lot of bed spread spread over about age 8 to age 22.

I never got sick, got any sort of rash, or other nasty thing from any of them. It's also not practical for me to bring a whole bed set to WDW with me when I go.

If I see something nasty on the bedspread or blanket, that is obvious, I'll call down for a new one, otherwise I just sleep in the bed as it is.

Did Dateline mention how many people per year get sick from this sort of thing? Or is it just the "ew" factor?

I'll be honest when I say that I could really care less about what's anywhere. We come into contact with so many germs in our daily life, if I tried to keep track, I'd go insane. People may get a little rambunxious while alone in their rooms, but thats their business. As far as I am concerned, when they leave, they take it with them. Regardless of what they leave behind in bacterial form. :earsboy: :earsboy:

I have to chime in here with a past experience that was disgusting. We always go to the ocean for a couple of weeks every summer. Well, a few years ago we decided to try out this beautiful new resort. We check in and go up to our rooms and flop on the beds. DD, 7 months is laying on our bed and I lay beside her. I suddenly got a whiff of what I thought was coffee. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from though so I let it go. Meanwhile DD and I are playing on the bed. Later we leave and go get something to eat. When we get back I start getting the bed ready and pull down the comforter. I see a huge YELLOW stain on the bed. It looks like a man, not a child as the stain takes up half the queen size bed, had wet the bed! I also see that the underside of the bedspread is yellow and damp from laying on the dirty sheets. The smell that hits me is a strong urine stain which I had thought was a nasty coffee odor. So DD and I had been laying on a pissy bed off and on that day. Apparently housekeeping didn't bother to change the linens between guests. I was livid to say the least! I called down to the front desk and demanded a new mattress and everything else. They said they would be right up. Meanwhile we left so they could do their job. Upon returning I check out the bed and still smell it. I turn down the comforter and see it is the same comforter with the pissy stain on it! And even worse is that they flipped the nasty mattress over and expected us to sleep on it. Of course we left and never went back. I take every opportunity to tell everyone to never stay at the COMMANDER hotel in Ocean City, Maryland!
