Last week we stayed in a one-bedroom unit in building 18 I really like the U-shaped buildings - sort of cozy!
I should have known something was "wrong" when I walked into the bedroom & almost immediately noticed the bedspread did not cover the whole mattress. I didn't think much of it until I tried to sit on the bed. The mattress & springs are much higher than I have ever seen. I'm short, but the top of the mattress came up between my hips & waist! With my knee condition, there was no way I could run & jump onto the bed
. We have never had a bed THAT high at OKW.
By the time I realized the bed was too high to get into, it was about 10:30 p.m. I called housekeeping. I was pretty adamant that there has to be something they can do & that I am not the only person who couldn't get into bed. It's funny now, but at the time I was tired & wanted to get to sleep. The CM said she would see what she could do. I even thought about sleeping on the sleeper sofa for five nights.
A CM came to the door with a plastic step stool. It came from the warehouse. I put a towel over it & proceed to get into bed!
Has anyone else noticed the difference in the newer mattresses? I spoke to a housekeeping supervisor the next day who lead me to believe I am not the only person to have this problem. I asked if all the mattresses were this high, & the answer is yes. DVC is curently in the process of purchasing more step stools to be used to get into bed. DVC has gone through the WDW safety office to find the right step stool.
My other concern is next year when we have friends coming with us, & they have small children. How will they get in & out of bed? The supervisor said she would make a note in our reservation for two step stools.
