Well, the loft conversion is more or less finished. We're almost done with the decorating and now it's time to think about furniture. With two double bedrooms to furnish, it needs to be reasonably priced (but not cheap and nasty).

Any recommendations?

How about a trip to Ikea?

Claire ;)

snap was gonna say ikea, we have pax tall double ones and the storage bits inside u choose and can mix and match its great, very good value to, you pick the doors frame etc.

I would also recomend ikea, you can design your own wardrobes with them a wide choice of doors, why you want shelves, rails etc, and very very reasonable on price. The only downside is that you then have to put it all together, but dh and i would just make a night off it, order in a pizza, a few beers etc!

Ikea all the way. :thumbsup2

1 tip for Ikea, take the smallest car u can and buy as much furniture as u can. :rotfl:
the hours fun ive had watching people trying to squash furniture into their cars. :rotfl2:

:lmao: We were there last week in the van, and saw a couple trying to cram loads of boxes into a car, and then back out again then back in again :lmao: why dont they just pay for the delivery, or even go online shopping with ikea.
you cant go wrong with ikea Joh :thumbsup2

Would have to say Ikea again. All our bedroom stuff is from Ikea, plus the study and it is spot on. Plus has the added benefit of being able to assemble it in the room rather than trying to get it up stairs and round corners, etc.

I'll go against the crowd and risk being yelled at but I detest IKEA with a passion!!! On pain of death I don't think I could go there again. I like you too much Joh to recommend IKEA ;)

Seriously though as you live in Calne i'd maybe try some of the local auction houses/antique places and smaller pine and oak shops. I used to live in Lyneham when Phil was in the RAF and we got some lovely stuff for the house, both modern and older and some deals were great. I got a great funky art deco mirror for £5 and a beautiful oak chest of drawers for £45.

You may not be able to kit out the whole room this way but you can certainly get a few unique pieces here and its great fun (if you're into that sort of thing!).

Well, thanks for the (Ikea) recommendations everyone - however, I'm with Eloise on this one. We are really not fans of Ikea at all. We ended up ordering some cheap and cheerful stuff from a well known catalogue store, which will be delivered on Saturday.

Eloise, I love your idea about trawling secondhand/auction shops but, to be perfectly honest, I just haven't got the time or inclination - plus, teh rooms are very modern looking so really need modern furniture. I just hope the stuff we've ordered is OK.

Can I just add a massive thanks to Tony, who offered to loan and drive a van for us, if we wanted to get stuff from Ikea - we really appreciate the offer mate :)
