Bedbugs at Pop? Really?

I don't think there is an easy, quick solution. I know that when my dd's camp found bedbugs they had to move the kids out of the building, they tossed all the mattresses in a fire, burned all the wooden bunkbeds and replaced everything. And that was the second time they had to deal with the little buggers that summer!!! So, I don't think a bug spray, no matter what it says, is going to do the trick. Those things hide out inside the mattress. You would never get them all!!! IF you suspect bedbugs are in the room, do not unpack, put your luggage up off the floor, not on the bed, and head to the front desk and ask to be moved to a bug free room.
The best way to tell if there has been bedbug activity is to take up the bottom sheet, check out the 'seams' on the mattress. If there is any sign of redness, then move out. That redness will be bedbug 'dirt'. It's what they leave behind. You can also check behind the headboards as well.

Interesting, thanks for the tips.

Just a few questions though, so you do not actually see the deb bugs under the sheets just redness in the seams of the beds?

What do I look for behind the headboard..the actual bugs? They must be really tiny ewwww.

Basically, you will see the bedbug 'dirt'...their leavings. It can be found along the mattress seams (welting) because it's harder for the 'dirt' to fall off that area. You can sometimes see it on walls, behind furniture also.
I have to say, that in all my stays at WDW, I have yet to run into a bedbug. I really do thing they are not all that common. It just isn't something I worry about. But, I also don't worry about those bedspreads or the carpets. I'm just not a worrier. If I see any bedbug 'dirt' then I'll get a different room.

Would you really want to sleep in a bed or be in a room where bug killer was just sprayed? That sounds gross.

I spent over 60 nights this year in hotels (on business) and have never come across any.

i agree with debbie..would you really feel comfortable sleeping in all those fumes??? bug spray is very toxic...

OP - here is what you do......

upon check in, go to your room and leave your bags outside of your door. go in room take the blankets and sheets down and pull up the fitted (bottom) sheet that covers the mattress. do you see any black spots on the mattress, especially near the edges/seams? turn on a light and check behind the headboard and behind the nightstand? bugs? check the insides of the dresser drawers?

if none of these things you are probably safe in the bedbug dept. all can load into the room and relax without much worry of tiny live stock.

IF you find any of these things though, you don't have to stay in that room. you call the front desk from that room, tell them what you have found and ask to be moved to another room - that will also have to pass the same inspection.

(now understand, if you have specific room requests, they might not be able to meet them. at that point you have to ask yourself which is your priority???? a room on the level/location that you desire or one that is free of bed bugs?)

NOTE - that even though i have looked this subject up online several times and done this inspection several times over my WDW and other hotel stays.....i have never found one mattress/room that "failed" the bed bug test. other skanky rooms, you bet, but never the bed bug thing.

can i tell you how much i LOVE sleeping in my own camper?!?!? i know who's been there, what they have been doing in it, and the last time all of the linens were washed.
