Bed Risers?

Hi. Can someone explain to me what a bed riser is and do they have them at BWV? Thanks! :)

Bed risers? Plastic blocks that go under the bedframe feet to make bed higher (primarily to allow underbid storage). No, there's no reason a hotel would have them; a consumer would have to or IDE their own bed risers IF the beds even allowed them.
Or do you mean bed rails?

Do you mean something to elevate the head of the bed for medical reasons? We did this to my mom's bed but I am not sure if the beds at WDW could be elevated.

That's a good description of bed risers.

A lot of hotels DO actually have them on request for guests with disabilities because some people need the bed to be higher to make a transfer. Risers are also sometimes used to make a space under the bed so that a lift can be used.

Being too low is not as much of an issue with hotels having changed to the very deep, pillow top mattresses. Those sometimes make the bed too high to get into easily - some beds are 24 to 30 inches high, compared to a typical wheelchair seat height of 20 inches!

You can contact Walt Disney World Resort Special Reservations at 407-939-7807 [voice] or 407-939-7670 [TTY] for specific information on that resort. Some of the resorts have beds with platform bottoms, so could not really use risers.
There were proposed changes to the ADA building guidelines that required beds in hotel rooms to be 19-23 inches high. I can't find this in the final guidelines, so am not sure if this was removed. Special Reservations should be able to help though.

Oh ok. I thought I read something on here a while back about something that elevated the bed to make transfers easier (or in my case make it easier for my mom or nurse to turn me during the night) and I thought it was called a bed riser but maybe I'm mistaken. I just remember when we were at BWV in 2010 my mom and my nurse had a hard time turning me because the bed was really low. It really hurt their backs so I was hoping they had something to elevated the bed. Oh well.

No I was talking about elevating the whole bed. Makes it easier for someone to turn me if the bed isn't so low. Thanks though!

Thanks so much! Having a bed higher makes it easier for my mom or my nurse to turn me at night so if we could get the bed to a "normal" height that would be great! We are renting points to stay at BWV so if we called Special Reservations would they still talk to us?

Stay at Old Key West. The normal beds there are so high, I needed to have the frame removed (it got taken apart and put under the other bed) and the mattress & box spring placed directly on the floor so I could get into bed!

Thanks but we're already booked for BWV for Oct 13-20. It's a great location!

They should.
We are members at OKW and stay on points. We have still called them.

When you call, it would be a good idea to know what height for the bed is best or you, rather than just saying you want a higher bed.

If it would be better, you can actually rent an adjustable hospital bed - one of the places I know rent them is Care Medical.

You can deal directly with them or thru Special Reservations.

Ok thanks so much! I'm good with a regular bed, just a normal height would be helpful rather than the low beds. Thanks!
