Does DCL provide bed rails for toddlers? If so, do you have to request in advance or onboard? TIA

Yes they do have them under special requests on the website.

A 'Single" rail is normally placed on the bunk bed. You can ask your stateroom host for a "double" rail that will run the whole length of the matress for either the bunk or the flip bed.

You can request in advance, but you can also ask your host after boarding.

I will have a 4-year old and an 18-month old so I guess I'll want a rail for both.

If it's easier, you can also request a pack and play for the 18 month old. Will yr 4yo be okay with the top bunk otherwise?

We noted a bed rail request online (along with a booster seat for meals) and it was in our room for us when we got there, and the room steward set it up for us.

My 4-year old will probably be ok with the top bunk. My 18-month old will not do the pack and play. Just seeing one is guaranteed screaming. Where can this be requested online? We are already booked through a TA.

When I requested rails for my 2 and 4 year old got my upcoming cruise, my TA informed me that Disney doesn't want under 6 year olds in the top bunk. She requested a PnP, which DD2 wouldn't use.

She also told me that I could do what ever I want with the PnP, including giving it back and I would still get both rails! ;)

We have never requested them in advance but have always had them. When we meet our stateroom host on the first day we normally just go over what we need and there has never been a problem.

As for age our oldest was 5 on our first cruise. We actually brought an airbed just in case the top bunk didn't work out. Turns out we the parents, as usual, were more scared/nervous/freaked out then she was. Then again I was also scared/nervous/freaked out over the balcony (which of course neither of our daughters jumped off either).

That's good to know! B/c I am one of those scared/nervous/freaked out parents who was worrying that my 3yr old son would climb the railings and jump off! LOL Glad I am not the only one. :rotfl:

They will not let any child under 5 use the top bunk. Your steward will not even pull it down. They will however bring you the extra long bed rails if you request them.

We actually bring our own when going on vacation. We have these: http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=537078&cmSource=Search
They don't take up much room in a suitcase and are easy to blow up. I actually am using one rigth now at home with my 2 year old. They work great.

When we went on the alaska wonder in 2011, they already had a bedrail in our room for my oldest son who as 2 yr old at the time. And I totally understand the PNP issue. Both my older two were like that once they hit a year old.

I called and requested it and it was waiting when we checked in.

My 7 DD wanted nothing to do with the upper bunk and neither did 3y.o DS my two slept feet to feet in the lower bed.
