My wife was just talking to a co-worker who said she was cleaning her daughters room and found a bed bug. She called the exterminator to ask what to do now and during the discussion she said she had no idea where it could've come from. The exterminator told her it could take up to 90 days for them to manifest themselves and when she did the math it tied into the time they visited WDW in April. She called Disney and told them what she found and where they stayed, POFQ. They said they would have somebody call her back. Well it went a few days and she sort of gave up when she got a call. The person confirmed that they found bed bugs in the room number she gave and then told her that they will pay all costs to remedy the situation at her house and this may end up being in the thousand of dollars. It will be interesting to see how this all is fully resolved but WDW is certainly extending itself to make this guest whole.

Disney's response is very reassuring to hear. Bed bugs can happen at any hotel and wouldn't keep me from staying at one after a report. But management's denial or lack or response would. It's how the problem is dealt with is the issue. Hope your friend's problem is easily remedied!

Eek... wow, shocking that D is stepping up like that.
Hope it works out for them.

I have a friend dealing with them at their house and it’s pretty horrible what they’re having to go through. Thousands and thousands of dollars to try and get rid of them and still are having problems.

Oh no I’m staying at POFQ in a few days!!! Now I’m terrified!

You can do a few things to ease your mind when you arrive. Leave bags outside the room while you enter and check the nightstand drawer and the wall between the bed and the wall close to the headboard.

I also check the dresser drawers.

I'll also remove the top sheet for bedding and lift pillows.

Bed bugs are large enough to be visible.

If after doing this, you don't see anything out of the oridinary, bring the luggage inside the room.

Not that I want to raise anyone's level of fear over bed bugs, but you can thoroughly check a hotel room and still end up coming home with them if you fly. On a plane, chances are high that your luggage will come into contact with other people's luggage. That is another source of these unwanted critters. In that scenario, you might actually be bringing the bugs into the hotel room.

I've had them. We got them from a moving truck. They are awful. It took 6 months to be rid of them, we went through 2 couches, 4 mattresses and 3 treatments. Physically they aren't a health issue but emotionally it tears you apart.

I'm super careful now so I check all hotel rooms before entering and when I get home the suitcases go into bags and everything gets washed before being put away. Then we inspect the suitcases before taking them out of the garbage bags. If it's summer leaving them in a hot car trunk for a week will do the trick as well.

I also do all of these. Then when I know the room is bedbug free, I get out the Lysol spray and wipes. Wiping down the headboards and spraying the remote are first on the list! I travel a ton and I’ve got it down to about 10 minutes. Then I can sleep easy!

Thanks this is helpful! I usually do check the beds, but it’s always kind of quick and not that thorough. This time I’m definitely going to pay more attention. I wish I knew what room these people stayed at, or at least what building but I’m probably better off not knowing right? :rotfl:

It seems odd to me that if she was there in April, and just told Disney after3 months , that room would have hundreds of bugs running around. I’m sure guests would have had to see them and would have told a manager.

I check the beds too, but great tip about checking draws and such.

Wow that is a great response from Disney. We too check all beds as soon as we get in. We remove the top sheet and check the pillows. I never checked the night stand or drawers - I will do that too.

When we went to New York we were told to check everything with a flashlight also. We just use or cell phone flash lights.

Maybe it's possible they already knew but they needed to cross-reference the room she stayed in with rooms that have been found to have bed bugs.
