Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Hi guys and pretty princesses.:flower3:

I finally got a minute to sit and relax with my WISH buds. It's been a crazy week.

Since I upped the time for working out in the morning it took a lot of my relax time away, which is probably a good thing since I tend to talk way to much.

Anyway, this morning was 28 degrees so it was the treadmill for my walking again for my miles. 4 miles, first mile 3 mph, 3.5 mph and 4 mph, second mile was 4.5 mph and 3rd and 4th miles at 5 mph. Then right to the calistetics routine followed by a good nose to tail stretching with some of AmyBeth's palites added.

The palities seemed to help since I had no soreness this morning when I woke up. (I know I spelled palities wrong so don't go there):snooty:

Then Erica and I went to the hair stylist for her to get hers done and me a trim. We had a nice fish lunch at Red Lobster after and now we are off to the movie, "Run Fat Boy Run".

Erica is doing very well with her walker and her big shoes. We just have to go very slowly. Steps suck but other than that life is good.

How is everyone today?

Leaner Panda:hippie:

Good morning folks! Quiet right now.....where is our early bird Lisa??:confused3

WWDave: I am glad that Erica is getting around ok......it's a long process, but at least she was fit before her surgery! Good job with the extra training and weight loss....... you are a Rock Star!:hippie:

Debra: Boo to missing your ice cream......but at least you'll get 'paid' this weekend......don't ever mess with my ice cream! I hope the apartment/house hunting goes well. It's a more difficult 'mental' idea when you are house hunting! Been there and done that!

Lisa: When can you start running again? I hope the weather gets better and you do too!

I did get a 3 miler in last night after being coaxed by ds #2.....I was dressed to go, but couldn't seem to get out the door. Then ds#2 asked to go with me on his bike.......that sort of motivated me to get out the door. I never get a real decent run in with the boys riding their bikes, but it's 3 miles I wouldn't have done!

Eating has been ok......not great, but not to bad. I have been really hungry lately with just a little increase in mileage......Why is that? I am not running very many more miles (maybe 2 or 3 a week) but I am starving again! :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 I hate that......

Hope everyone else is doing well.......and I hope you all check in soon!

Beth

Good Morning all.
Beth...It's so awesome when our kids can motivate us. Sometimes that's all I need is that little bit of coaxing. I went out the other night for a 3miler. About 1/2way in I thought, "My legs feel like lead and I'm really tired." My son appeared out of nowhere on his run (he's trying to get his miler under a 4:46) he said, "Come on, mom, you can do this. Don't give up" he got back home and sat on the drive way for the rest of my run and the three times I passed him, he yelled the same thing. Without him, I would have quit early. I love that your little guy asked to accompany you on his bike. What a sweetie! And.....you're much faster than me, but I'll get there.:)
Panda...Erica is moving right along. I agree with the pilates insight. I find myself using the breathing exercises when I run and I feel stronger. Amy is such a sweetie to share her expertise.
Debra...I would imagine that you always have a quirky comeback brewing in your mind!;) I think it sounds like a great area where you live. It would be so nice to be able to walk to places to grab a bite, shop, etc. Happy house hunting! Yum, ice cream...boring speech is worth it! Oh, and your pictures from your trip are so cute. It looks like you had a fabulous time and were able to see lots of characters.
Stacie...I hear you on the expensive Disney trips, but oh, the memories we make.:cool1: I'd love to see your newly made shirts. We love (translate:I love) to have us dress the same on vacation! You are becoming the XT queen.
Lisa...I told my husband last night that I could go jack-slap a few people at his work. He looked at me like I lost my mind. Maybe I have.:lmao: I won't be at ToT, although I would love to be there. One of the businesses that my DH deals with does a trip to Disney and it's during those dates. Sadly, we had to give up the trip this year.:sad2: But, I'll be there in January.:woohoo:

I did Pilates yesterday and it felt like a rest day. So today, I'm running and it is supposed to be beautiful. Thank goodness spring is here. Have a strong day Lean Meaners!

Checking in. I'm still very disorganized from our WDW trip last week, which by the way was fantastic. :yay:

Debra, how did your trip go? Love that rain the weekend we arrived?!?

I waited a couple days to weigh myself after we got back and I was a pound over what I was when I left. I was pleased with that, cause I've been known to come back four or five pounds heavier. :scared1: I know it is mostly water weight and sure enough I've now since lost that pound.

I ate the kid meals at the counter service spots, but I have to admit we all had a frozen treat everyday! :sad2:

As for running, I'm sad to say I'm injured from my half. I have now run four times and each time I had to stop early cause of my left leg. I can't even tell you exactly where it hurts. I wanted to run around the Epcot resort area so badly, but only got out twice on our trip. DH thinks I need to lay off it for a couple weeks and I'm really upset about that. He is probably right, though.

Hope everyone has been well since I've been gone! :grouphug:

Shan  PIxie dust for you! Take time to heal that leg, it won't hurt your running and will probably help it! I find every time I rest and go back (rest can be just turning into a couch potato or from an injury) my time has increased! Hoping you feel better soon! And congratulations on maintaining in WDW!!! :woohoo:

Beth How wonderful that you have children who insprire you to do more! That's sweet! Keep those hip flexors flexing, a total lock down is NO fun!

Postef (Sorry, I keep forgetting your other name) A short 7 miles....That's my way of saying, "Whew, that was 7 miles, not a huge accomplishment but a really good one!" I like to think that much of how we feel about a thing has a lot to do with how we think about a thing! Am I making any sense here, whatsoever??? :confused3

Debra My half is Oklahoma City on the 27th. It starts at the OKC Memorial bombing site. It is an expression of both grief for what happened and triumph for overcoming and a celebration of life. Our Wisher friend Mkymsehi (Jeff) stationed in Hawaii, had a dear friend, bootcamp buddy, and college roommate who was killed in the bombing and I will be running in his memory. (okay I will be walking, you know what I mean....) This is a really lenient race. We have 6.5 hours of support just for the half! They will continue to hand out medals to finishers even later. :cool1: I hope that I can do it much faster than that, though!!! :rotfl: -- toddlers......:lmao: -- I hope the perfect place to call home, shows up soon!

Pwerful Panda We will have to organize a Wish trip to Houston for the Senior Olympics so that we can all be there to cheer you on! :woohoo:

I am so glad most of you could wear your Race-ready shirts! I knew when I ordered it would be an outside chance of having it fit....I had already planned to give it to Katwalks in the event that the girls were too far into adolesence to take that kind of insult! :rotfl2:

To everyone I missed...I apologize. To everyone I didn't miss....I apologize!!! :thumbsup2

Here's to our health! -- Connie

Lisa: I can't remember if it was here or an another thread, but I know you asked who was doing TofT and I don't think I ever responded. I know I don't have it in my siggie, but John and I will both be doing it. We already have our ressies for BW. Nancy will also be doing it, but I think she is going to wait until the the website confirms the 2 1/2 time allowance before signing up her husband Norm. Once I finish the Minnie, I will update my siggie and add the one for TofT when i delete the Minnie. I remember you from last year with the cute little bellhop outfit.

Dave: glad to hear that Erica is getting around a little bit more even if she is hobbling. You take good care of her now!

Good Afternoon, Lean Meaners!

I'm plugging along and doing well. I walked at lunch today and yesterday, and also on the TM last night. Tonight I'll be hitting the bike for awhile.

I'm doing very well with following my eating plan -- but then I again I usually do during the week!:rotfl:

Jeanne -- You are a Disney race machine! What a wonderful time you are going to have at all these races!:cool1:

Connie -- What an inspirational half you have. I bet alot of people get a little choked up. I love the amount of time you have, it sounds very friendly to beginners! :goodvibes

Shan -- Here's hoping you feel much better soon! pixiedust:

Tracey -- What a great motivator your son was! It's fantastic that he wanted to support you, just as you do for him.

Beth -- Sshh. You're going to give my ds ideas. If I let him come along on his bike, he'd want to do it every single time. ;) I think it's great that you got family time and a workout out in. What a great example you are for your kids!

Dave -- Spring seems to be mighty slow in coming this year. We warmed up nicely today, but those 28 degree starts are a bit chilly! So glad to hear Erica is recovering well. I know you are taking extra good Panda care of her! :)

Debra -- Toddlers, infants, newborns...unfortunately I'm reasonably certain that at almost 40, my children will never grow up! :rotfl2:

Stacie -- It sounds like you have a family compound going. Are you secretly a Kennedy?

Lisa -- Hope you're feeling ok today. We worry about our Northern ray of light. Did you get out and enjoy the sunshine? :thumbsup2

Vic, Bill, and Everyone Else -- Hope you're having a Lean Mean Day!

Maria

only time for the drive by meaners...I know I'm missing everyone and hate to be selfish with the post, but I am in the midst of 13 consecutive 17 hour days.

I hate this...I need to punch out and go to Kauai and be a dive instructor...I'll be broke but probably happier.

Anyway, I got in a 8 mile elliptical (YUCK!!!!) on Monday, a 45 minute swim this morning at 0500 and will take a break at 20:30 to go run for 30 minutes..

Mike

P.S. I forgot, my ex wife just "stopped by" grrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave: What a wonderful WO you had! I really think the palities will help (the way you spell it makes me think of polite tease--hmmmm). I hope you and Erica enjoyed Run Fatboy Run.

Beth: Oh, I'll get my ice cream...it's just a matter of time. It's actually better this way, because if I want Ben & Jerry's this weekend, we'll have a short hike (~1.5 miles) to get it. I'm so happy that your DS helped get you out the door--I love that so many of our Lean Meaners/WISHers have supportive family! Btw, I get hungrier in the Spring & Fall, regardless of what I'm doing; I'm calling it the spring munchies.

Tracey: I loved the story about your DS, too! :) Thanks for the compliments with the pics; really, having my photo taken with characters is about the only time you'll see me with a natural smile on my face! You're another Pilates girl, huh? Amy's getting me on that bandwagon, with Dave driving the horses!

Shan: Wasn't that rain unbelievable??!! I don't mind the rain myself, but it changed everyone else's touring patterns, so it's a good thing DOOD bought us APs because then I don't feel "cheated." Now if I could just get him to invest in DVC. I posted lots of stuff about the trip, but the most convenient place is probably on the WISHers turning 40 thread. (I think I'm one of the happiest people on that thread...probably because of a great b-day celebration.) How was your trip, aside from the continuing problems with the leg :sad2: and the good news about the break-even no-real-weight gain? :woohoo: Details & pics, please!

Connie: I think it's great that you're doing OKC in honor of Aloha Jeff's friend. The event's support and organization sounds phenomenal! I'm sure you'll have a great time. Adolescent girls!! :rotfl2:

Jeanne: I'm so glad you're going to ToT, as I'm really looking forward to meeting you as a Lean Meaner & fearless captain! :worship: You're reminding me that we need to get going on the reservations, if not the registration. *Sigh* So many different ways to spend our money....

Lisa: You wore a bellhop outfit to ToT?? Pics, please!!!

Maria: Good job with the regular motion & the double-dipping on the walking. Ain't springtime grand? Hah, it sounds like our young'uns have a bad case of Peter Pan syndrome (or maybe Wendy syndrome, as that seems to be more accurate).

Mike: I'm so sorry to hear about your 17hr days. And the ex stopping by...:scared: Hey, maybe Aloha Jeff can hook you up with a dive instructor gig--which sounds like a dream job to me!

As for me: Today is the first day in a long time I had a little twinge in my hip when I tried to run. I made it through a 5K distance, then called it good and shifted to XT. It didn't seem to cause a problem biking or on the elliptical, but I had some discomfort rowing. Not sure what's going on, because it doesn't feel familiar and I didn't detect it on my regular pedestrian commute. Maybe it was just poor form, as I was up super early today to squeeze in a full WO at the gym & early a.m. isn't good for my ability to focus. I'll ice it tomorrow and Friday, and see what happens on Saturday's run.

I also made my second batch of protein bars. Better than the first, but not by much, and the carb/protein ratio is off. I'm going to switch over to sweetened whey protein & see what I can do. DOOD says they're much better than the first, btw, and he'll eat them like he ate the others. But he's kind of like Mikey from those Life cereal commercials--he'll eat anything I put in front of him.

17 hour days? Do you work with Scott H? He works long hours like that also.

Aren't ex wifes just so precious? I have one but she avoids us, she hates to see people happy. I think she is out looking for a princess to give a posion apple to.

So Mike the ladies are having fun talking about the "girls", I don't think we should go there. Wanna talk about guns and beer or shooting animals and other man stuff?

Macho Panda:hippie:

I'd LOVE nothing more than to be in a deer stand right now in a blizzard!

I am so able to just concentrate on really being in the moment for those hours...you can't hunt and worry at the same time!

I'd post up pictures of some deer and pheasant hunts, but don't want to get any squeamish princesses (or princes) upset.

I have a cabinet full of guns but haven't shot anything bigger than a jack rabbitt since 1979. I have a customized Ruger 10/22 that shoots one hole at 50 yards and a CZ American 22 that is even better. We have several carry guns, 2 Glocks 2 Barrettas, 2 Kel Techs. A Marlin 30/30, a Ruger model 77 in 6mm. and 2 police tactical shotguns.

We did a lot of target and combat shooting untill we took up racewalking, now we don't have time for it.

I don't have the long range guns...no long ranges here; but I have a beautiful 20 GA from DeHaan, a Beretta A303 12 Ga, Mossberg Persuader (spare rifled barrel), and a Beretta 92FS and Sig Sauer P226 in 9mm.

Unfortunately, Illinois doesn't have a carry law...and I would NEVER break the law when traveling in some of the rougher parts of the fair city of Chicago ;) for work...

I belong to a bird hunting reserve about an hour away from my house...didn't get there ONCE all year...so my lab hates me too!

We have a chocolate Lab ourselves. Great dog but quirky as heck.

Cute doggie!

I can't participate in the gun chatter, but I'm glad you guys found something else in common.

I dragged my very reluctant self on the bike tonight, just for half an hour. There's nothing I want to see on tv, so I'll just read and get some extra rest, which I could use.

Happy sleeps, Lean Meaners!

Yes Maria extra rest is good. Erica and I usually turn in early and get out my 8 before I get up to workout at 5am and she gets up when I get home about 9am.

Erica is lost in a book tonight.

Sleep Loving Panda:hippie:

REAL men don't use no stinkin' gun! Want a challenge get yourselves a Mathews Bow, like me. Guns just ain't fair! :sad2:

Every chocolate lab I ever met was a little wobbly in the mentally fit department...very cute though.

Wow, I think I just described my ex, too!:lmao:

I'll post some pics of my puppies later.

Going out to run for 30, then back to work, then sleep, then 90 minute ride at 0430....

Tired Mike

Wow, I took a day off from the boards and BOOM it took off. Hmmmm, I could get a complex here.

So I will start out with me because I am SOOOO HAPPY, I CAN RUN TODAY, finally. I can't wait for my work day to end so I can get out there. We have been having beautiful 50-60 degree days and I have been banished to walking or biking. I know, at least I have done something but it just was not running. I had to pick my mom up at the airport yesterday as she was returning from Florida. Hence, the reason for my absence.

Dave/Mike: I only own 1 gun, my very first and last, an M1 .30 carbine that my dad gave me when I was 13. My ex however, was the armorer for his unit and I am capable of tearing down, cleaning and reassembling a .50 cal quicker than he ever could. Yep, I am a rare commodity around these parts!! Oh and add me to the yucky unhappy ex club.

Debra: No costumes for me, just straight up running clothes. Some of the costumes were pretty funny although my favorite were the pink flamingos in January. Toddlers, you have toddlers, I have newborns!! :lmao: We are staying at CBR for ToT, cheaping out halfway but I can't justify BWV with DH. My SIL and BIL are staying there though. :rolleyes1

Beth/Tracey: My DS6 rides his bike with me frequently. When he was younger and had training wheels, I used to hook my reins from my bridle to his handlebars and pull him up the hills. He thought he was the king!! Last night, he went with DH and I on his new bike. He decided to go down the hill to the driveway, yeehaw, flat out, no brakes and turn into our gravel driveway. Yep, crash!! Needless to day, I had a test run, my Garmin says 6:59 which would be a miracle but I was on a mercy mission so it could be true. Scrapes, bruises but no major breaks. The bike was okay too. :sad2: I wonder if he will go out tonight?

Shan: Sorry you are hurt. Have you tried any stretches or gone to the doc? I am so not a happy non-runner. My family doth suffer!!

Connie: My sister lives in Choctaw and her work building had windows broken during the blast and lost many friends. Scary stuff. I am hoping to do the half next year with her. She just started walking again after a LONG hiatus and much weight gain. Maybe I will see you next year!!

Maria: You are so sweet... Northern ray of light. I don't think my DH would call me that. He has called me a ball of napom before!! :scared:

Jeanne: Yay for your being at ToT!! :woohoo: We will have to hunt down (I mean gently seek out) Debra!! I cannot wait to see everyone again. Last year, I wanted to do mini golf but my party did not, I watched Dave walk by multiple times but my party was being sick/cranky so I stayed with them. I missed all the fun!! :dance3: Not so this year!!

Vic, Bill, anyone else I missed: Well we know Vic is just sitting watching his big screen HDTV in the shrine but where is everyone else??

Have a great day everyone and, did I mention I get to run today???? :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:
