Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Lisa:hug: Don't you dare get a complex. We never have enouth pretty princesses. And YES you were missed.

We are doing the mini golf again on the saturday of ToT, then home to relax and nap before the evenings adventure. Linda hosts the golf fun and does a darn fine job of it. Robert and Linda are the Race Directors for several races out west one of which is the "Pony Express" ultra. So they get lots of stuff from their sponsors to give out. Linda had a goody bag of socks for prizes when you got a hole in one. Then nice stuff like shirts and fuel belts for prizes. I of course got the tech shirt for last place. I was also bird dog retriever for the princesses wayward golf balls.

Jeanne claims I don't exactly play mini golf by the rules, but you can't believe everything you hear. It's just that some things are not clear. Like just what do you do when you find an extra ball on the course? I think conviently letting it mingle with the competition's balls out on the course is fair.

Ok time for me to shut up and get my pudgy butt to the gym.

Have a super day y'all.

Walking Panda:hippie:

What, panda balls on the golf course??? :scared1: Dang, I did miss some fun last year. I can't wait...:woohoo:

Vic: Quick question, my added protein diet recommended drinking a half an Accelerade before my run and then the other half after my run. Do you add the whey powder to the Accerlade powder and mix it or the bottles? I am thinking I will drink the first half before my run with no whey powder and then mix a scoop into the remaining half (10 oz) and drink it afterward. Does this sound right??

Robert: Thanks for the tip on the mini protein bars. I have been eating one as my "dessert" after my walks with DH at night. I think it has helped with my leg cramps that I tend to get. Waaaaaay better than drinking tonic water (less gin) at night to quell the restless legs!!:crazy2:

easy spin 20 miles in 90 minute bike ride...

Tomorrow is a 45 minute swim, 40 minute run.

Hope all is well with my fellow meaners, and I REALLY hope my work load drops so i have time to read and post up.

Take care folks, be safe out there!!!

Dave: I would NEVER accuse you of cheating......let's just say your rules are somewhat "original". :rotfl:  :rotfl:

Lisa: was it you in the bellhop costume last year or did I get you mixed up with someone else? I was looking among Robert's pix to see if I could spot a photo of you, but it wasn't on his site. If it WAS you and you have a photo, please post it so we all can see.

Hey there folks!

Lisa...I am so glad you get to run again! Yay!

We've never tried the mini golf at WDW. Maybe this year we will have time.

So, I did 5 miles yesterday. I made it through. As slow as molasses in the winter, but just under the 15 min pace. My mom went for 3.6 of those miles. She wore her shiny new WISH shirt. She was so cute! I wish I was a little as her. She is so petite. I ordered us eye2eye shirts so she was trying to decide which shirt to wear for the Minnie 5K and which she was going to wear to cheer us on for the 15K. She's so funny!

We had chicken and rice for dinner, THEN went out for the WR. Not a good idea. It decide to return to visit about 45 min after I was done. yuk!

Oh, so how about I go online to register all the family for the Minnie 5K and after I'm looking at my active.com account. It doesn't list the 15K! I sent an e-mail to disney endurance and they checked and said we are registered, but how odd! It's lists the 5K and the 1/2 Marathon for next year, but not the 15K. I was really starting to stress there. I'm glad they confirmed we are registered though.

Ok...all for now!

Hope everyone is well! I'm not a gun or bow kinda gal. I can go fishing though! :thumbsup2

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I've been away for so long. I haven't been eating well so I haven't been posting. It's these times that I really need to be posting. I am going thru a spell of feeling like I have no control over what I eat. I guess I have the Spring Munchies too.

I've caught up on all the posts and wanted to make a few comments while I can remember some of what I read.

Beth: About re-setting your natural pace: I did a good speed workout this week that seemed to make me faster when I went out for my LR. I warmed up on the TM at an easy pace, then ran 10 min at marathon pace, 7.5 min at 1/2 mar pace, 5 min at 10K pace and 2.5 min at 5K pace then ended with 10 min at an easy pace. I ran for 3 min at an easy pace between each interval. When I went out for my LR 2 days later I was about 15 sec/mile faster without even trying.

Lisa: I use the AccelGel. I like the Choc (tastes like Hershey's syrup), vanilla and the citrus. I think the whey protein aggrevated my tummy a bit, so I take them with a Lactaid pill. I hope you can find them near you. I also use the Accelerade. I like the grapefruit best.

I have to get back to work now, but I am going to try to check in here a little more regularly. Just reading everyone's posts makes me a bit more inspired to eat healthy.
Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Add me to the list of Lean Meaners with unhappy, strange, and in my case, stalker exes (at one point)! I think that's why I appreciate DOOD so much!

Lisa: All this talk of guns & hunting me down makes me very nervous. ;) I'm so happy that you're getting the opportunity--finally--to be running outdoors in this weather.

Dave: Oooh, mini golf! I've always found it very useful to adopt a flexible set of rules, as it keeps the game from being too predictable. Especially if there's a wager on the outcome.

Mike: I'm amazed that you can keep up with your work load, your training, and posting here too! Do you get ANY sleep?

Stacie: But molasses in winter is soooo sweet! Really, I think you and your mom are doing just great. Like Vic would say, you got 'r done! I'm glad you checked with active.com, but it IS strange & would have thrown me for a loop.

Cindy: I know what you mean by the Spring Munchies and the need to post. There's something about putting things down in writing that's good for me, even if doesn't always change the behavior. We miss you here, with your good advice & supportive comments, so keep on posting!

All Lean Meaners: I hope you're having a great day & looking ahead to a relaxing yet invigorating weekend!

As for me: Just like Cindy--the Spring Munchies have arrived, along with my allergies. Not to mention the sweet tooth. I have to confess to a HUGE dark chocolate candy bar! :scared1: Worse, it was unconscious stress eating while I was working on a project--have I mentioned how much I hate Power Point? I haven't worked out yet today, either, so my whole schedule is thrown off; I don't deal with with such monkey wrenches in my day.

Anyway, I was about to go for pretzels, too, but decided to take a break. I walked away from the desk & project. Then I decided I'd post here before I reached for more junk food. So I'm owning up to the chocolate & eating an apple. Keep on moving forward, right?

Hi everybody!

Shan..Welcome back. Sounds like you had a great time. Take it easy on that leg.
Maria..I'm with you on eating well during the week. The weekends are hard to stay on track.
Mike...What a work schedule. Hawaii and diving sound oh so much better!
Debra...Yep, I'm a Pilates girl, too. I had slacked off for awhile and have now jumped back in. It seems to make a difference and I'm noticing a stronger core when I run. My DH is like DOOD, he'll eat just about anything I make. It sure makes life easy.
Lisa..Yay, you can run! Sorry that it had to be running downhill like a steam engine trying to save your little man! Thank goodness he's okay. If he's like my boys, he stood up and said, "Wow, that was fun!":confused3
Cindy, Connie, Jeanne, Vic....Hey!
I'm heading to the river trail after the kids get off school to let them ride bikes while I run.:cheer2: :cheer2: I love being able to get outside.

Hey everyone! Sorry to be late to the party! Spent the day with dh at Hollywood! ((((a local casino that just opened)))) We were ahead in the beginning, but came up a little short! We didn't spend to much (((((since we couldn't have afforted it))))) We spent the same as the movie we would have seen!:hippie:

I did get some XT in yesterday.....6.5 miles on the elliptical. I have to say it's been a long time since I did the elliptical, and my back was really hurting for some reason....

Eating is a little off.....not to bad. Will stick with it for the weekend! Catch up with everyone later.

Beth

Hey Lean Meaners!

Ok, I went for a walk at lunch today, and had a fabulous ginger-sesame chicken salad for lunch -- mesculin, jicama, ginger chicken, sesame sticks and edamame. I didn't even need the dressing. I highly recommend that combination!

Tonight I should do a quick 30 minutes on the TM. We'll see. I may talk myself out of it -- then again it's only half an hour

Beth -- So here's how I've been able to really, really eat right -- I write down everything I'm going to eat for the next day, cross off anything I don't eat after each meal, and I have to write down anything extra. I don't like writing down extras, so I haven't been eating them. Just a thought. It sounds like you're doing ok, but I'm hoping this will get me through this weekend! :goodvibes

Tracey -- Have a great time at the river trail. Sounds like fun! :thumbsup2

Debra -- Good job! You distracted yourself with another activity, and stopped the evil eating train (ok, I can't really call chocolate evil, but maybe decadent?!) ;)

Cindy -- So good to see you posting! We've missed you!:grouphug:

Stacie -- You grab a line and I'll get a pole...my dad used to take me fishing when I was a kid. I can still smell the fried crappie...(that's "crahpy" phonetically) for those of you that just have to go there...:rotfl:

Jeanne -- You race naked, Dave makes up mini golf rules, ya'll just march to the beats of your own drums...:dance3:

Mike -- Here's hoping work slows down so you can, too!

Lisa -- Ok, this is to the tune of "You can fly" -- You can run, you can run, you can run, you can run! :woohoo:

Dave -- I suspect there's nothing pudgy about our lean Panda!:)

Connie -- You must have awesome arms! :upsidedow

Have a great, lean mean evening!
Maria

Good morning Leany Meanies!! :goodvibes

Jeanne: Nope, no photographic evidence that I was at ToT, except for a few photos I spent hours finding in the lost and found. Nothing to write home about. Sorry, I will be much better this time. There is a pic in Space Ranger's marathon report of me with Linda at the Pop meet. I think Dave had some too. ;)

Debra: Way to use the "am I hungry or bored" question and just walk away. But hey, dark chocolate, monounsaturated fats, there is a flat belly diet that says you can have dark chocolate with every meal and you will lose weight. I think it is from Prevention magazine.

Stacie: Worms on a hook??? Oooh, I am feeling not welly in the belly!! JK, I used to fish too, never baited my own hook, but I did fish. Used to hunt too, never shot anything besides a squirrel that was bugging me, but I did hunt. :upsidedow

Cindy and Maria: We have missed you girls. Please keep your smiling faces ever present for us to enjoy!! :flower3:

All other Lean Mean (careful) eating machines: I hope everyone has a beautiful weekend in store and can get outside far, far away from the fridgie!!

Me, myself and I: We all went for a run yesterday (me, myself and I, ya know, all my friends!! :rotfl: ). It was not stellar by any means. My legs felt heavy and tight and my pace was only about 11:30 mpm but I made 3 miles. When I got back I realized that I was not really sweating and it was 70 degrees out :headache: so obviously I was not pushing myself as hard as I probably should have been. I just didn't feel it. As excited as I was about getting out there, it still did not feel "right". I also just got the letter from the doc saying that this was tubular adenoma (pre-cancer) and that is is very odd for someone my age to have it so that may have played a part in my run. Poor me syndrome hits a lot around here. See, I have an older sister (morbidly obese) and a younger brother (smoker, drinker, overweight) and I am the one who inherits all the good DNA (migraines, cancer, etcetera). It just does not seem fair that I keep my body healthy and I still have to battle the demons of my genetics. I know that you are not dealt anything that you cannot handle but heck, why can't it be one of the others once in awhile? Not that I wish this on anyone else either. See, bad toady, stop feeling sorry for yourself, get your sorry butt out there and run. Yes, again today even though it would normally be a rest day, I have rested enough. We only have a softball scrimmage on for this weekend, cow fencing from snow damage and raking the lawn in the beautiful stretch of weather that we are in until Monday, so I should be able to run every day and get back into my regular routine by Monday.

Yay for Spring, yay for friends (who let you vent even when you are sounding pathetic), and yay for being Lean and Mean!!! :thumbsup2

Good morning guys and pretty princesses.

What are we gonna do with some of our princesses. Ladies, we can't share our strenth of will and determination if we are not together. When you are feeling weak and like you are being controlled by your cravings come find someone and lets face it together. There isn't anyone on here that would mind helping their WISH sister or brother over a bad spot.

That being said life can be darn tough and sometimes an escape to a happy place can keep us sane. So if your happy place is something to eat, well it's not the best idea but you haven't committed a mortal sin, you just had to have a moment of bliss. Not a reason to feel guilt since that makes you feel less like the wonderfull person you are.

There are a lot of things you can do to help stay in controll. I smoked for 30 years and quitting was not the easiest thing to do, it's kinda like snacking, you feel like a loser everytime you light up but you keep doing it and swear this is the last time.

When I quit, I did some strange things, like going to bed very early so I wouldn't have to fight with myself over a desire. I took a lot of baths since I couldn't smoke in the shower. Chewed lots of gum. The main thing I did though was remind myself everyday that I was worth the effort.

All our princesses are beautiful, we have photographic evidence.

Dumb old Panda:hippie:

Good morning, Everyone!
This is a quick fly-by for me.
Lisa.... :grouphug: :grouphug: Thank goodness they found it and it's gone---that in itself is wonderful news. Even though genetics take over in many circumstances, taking care of yourself is the best thing you can do and can change the outcome of many situations. I know you know this, and my little speech sounds "wordy", I just know that if you weren't taking care of yourself, they wouldn't have found the pre-cancerous lesion so early.:grouphug:
Maria...Yum, that salad sounds awesome!
Jeanne, Vic, Connie, Mike, Liz, Shan, Deb, Stacie, Beth, Dave, Cindy.....Have a happy day! (Sorry if I missed anyone)

I went to the river trail---stonker run, but that's ok. I finished. We woke up at 4:30 to the house shaking from an earthquake. Scary.:scared1: So now, I'm exhausted. I'm thinking that a nap is in order for today.

Morning everyone!

I will eat good today! (Just trying to pump myself up.)

Tracey, I heard about the earthquake this morning on the radio. Wow!

Hi Everyone!

Ok, so no workout yesterday, but I did stay upright taking care of household tasks until dinner, so that's a plus. I'm also less tired today, so I'm definitely hitting the bike and TM. Tomorrow I'll be up to 5.75 miles for my walk, I really think the longer distances help with the weight control, and the mental motivation.

Shan -- I'll eat good with you! I had a Vitamuffin top and banana for breakfast, planned soup and veggies for lunch and Subway for dinner. I am not going to deviate like I normally do on Friday nights and then feel bad about it all weekend...:sad2:

Tracey -- So glad to hear the earthquake didn't cause real damage or injury for you! We all have those stonkers from time to time, that's how we can appreciate the good days! :thumbsup2

Dave -- Thanks for the words of wisdom :yoda: . We are all indeed worth the effort! When I'm posting, I can't also be eating...

Lisa -- Ok, as the most recent holder of a pity party, trust me when I say you are not whining. You have been through so much, and remained so upbeat...but even you are allowed a moment of "why?". You wouldn't be human if you didn't have those feelings. If I might suggest -- perhaps today try running not for time or speed, but just for the joy it gives you. Make sure you really enjoy yourself. Just be in the moment. You are a conditioned athlete, and running gives you something special. Let it flow today and this weekend. :goodvibes

Jeanne Beware! I'm afraid the Panda may have all sorts of mischief up his sleeve...:rotfl2:

Everyone have a great weekend! It's a holiday on Monday for us MA folk -- Patriots' Day (I'm not sure about the rest of NE?). Isn't it nice we get the day off for the Boston Marathon? We plan to take ds to the Providence Zoo!

I love regional days off -- back in the Stone Age when I worked for the State of Illinois, we got a day off to go to the Fair! :lmao:

Any other fun holidays out there?

Maria

Dave and Maria: Thanks for setting me back on track again. And especially to Maria for sharing her Chi with me today. I sometimes forget the joy of running for fear of not keeping up (with myself mostly). It DID feel good to be out running again and I did enjoy myself even if I sounded as though I did not. I guess we all need to take a breath sometimes and center ourselves and remember why we do this, not punishment, not because we need to but because we HAVE to.

"If one can stick to training throughout the many long years, then willpower is no longer a problem. Is it raining? That doesn't matter. I am tired? That's beside the point. It is simply that I just have to." -Emil Zatopek.

For all the times I am, to coin Debra's word of wisdom, snarky because I cannot run, I need to remember those times and why I get that way. I do truly miss running, being outside, free and wild. Yep, I said it Mr. Panda. Let thy spirit free....

Love you all!!

All our WISHers:grouphug:

Have an awesome day y'all and remember how truely beautiful you all are.

Happy Panda:hippie:

oh you guys... Group Hug, Group Hug!!! :grouphug:

I think we all have our own pitty parties...For me, Pretty much every week! lol! :goodvibes This whole exercise/training thing is so much mental. It's really easy to compare ourselves to other people and feel like we're not doing enough. We're not fast enough or we don't go long enough, or we do not eat good enough. In the end, it's all about ourself and our goals, our expectations of what you/we/I can do. It's not about anyone else. Everyone here has their own challenges they may face, we are all at different levels of fitness, trying to attain a goal we have set for ourselves. Keep it you guys! YOU CAN do it!!! WE CAN do it!

I really hope everyone has a wonderful, fantastic weekend. I've really read a lot of truely inspirational things on the board today and I pray that will help me get through my 7 miler. I will do 7 miles...the timing may stink, (Lord let me make it w/ an avg pace of 14:59 or less! :upsidedow ) but I WILL do 7 miles.

I got my hydration booty bag! ha! I guess you wear it around back? :confused3 The bottles are larger than I would like (2 at 21 oz) but it seems comfy enough and it has a few zipper compartmnts for a cameras beans and the such. I'll test it on Saturday.

Again, I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I hope your weather is nice. It's 80 here today! I guess I'll be a bit warm for my 3 miler this afternoon! lol! Before you know it, we'll be complaining of the heat instead of the cold!

I'm doing the two week happy dance! In exactly two weeks I hope to be at SSR, getting ready to head off to WWoS for my Minnie Packet Pickup! :cool1: :dance3: :cool1:

Each and every one of you is Special! Remember that! :flower3:
