Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Good Morning all!

Maria...I actually meant I hate to miss the aquacise. I guess I should have read my post after I posted it! :goodvibes It's a lot of fun and better on the joints, but I've missed it too much lately. Hopefully I'll make it next week! Good eating tips!!! Hadn't thought of some of them before.

Panda...Yay! I'm so glad to hear you are out of the Panda house! I'm pretty tolerent so DH is LUCKY! Although, I don't think he really realizes it! ;) We wish you could come to the Minnie too. I'm so excited to meet everyone! I didn't make it to the WISH meet in January and only did the 5K so I didn't get to meet very many folks. Too bad on the 12 hr shift! How far from home do you work? With our commute we are gone for close to 10.5/11hrs a day...ugh!

Connie...The bodybugg sounds neat. I'll have to check that out! I hope the Winds slow down for you! I know how frustrating that can be!!! Too bad about your chest strap for your Garmin. I was really worried mine would rub or cause irritation, but it doesn't. He really doesn't bother me too bad. Much more comfy than the cheap HR mon. from Wal-mart a few years back. Orginally I just wanted the 205, but I'm very happy DH bought the 305 instead. I like being able to keep an eye on my HR.

Lisa...I'm so glad you are feeling better!!! Yeah, that mental thing... The first mile for me is so hard too. The mental thing totally defeated me last night. :sad2:

Deb...How exciting you are fitting into your shorts from last year! That is a nice reward! I would never picture you for being shy. I am pretty shy too in most circumstance. Actually, timid may be a better word. Once I know you, I'm not shy anymore! :goodvibes We've only done 1 breakfast buffet--Cinderella's table. YUM!!! We are doing the one at Boma in May. I love breakfast! I could eat pancakes, waffles...anytime of day. My train of thought...Eat all you can breakfast, skip lunch and the cal work themselves out! :sad2: I say...Eat, drink and be merry! Enjoy your time and don't stress to much about the food. Eat what makes you happy and enjoy your vacation! Not much help huh.

Beth..So gld you are feeling good and your weight is down! Way to go on you 3.5m walk!

Tracy...Yum...pancakes! Way to go on your run!!! What a speedy thing you are!

Mike...Welcome back! Glad you were able to get some good sleep!

Liz, Vic... and anyone else I missed...Sorry!

For me...Yesterday was a complete failure workout wise. I was supposed to do 4 miles. Nope. didn't happen. What went wrong??? :confused3 It was beautiful day. I just didn't have it in me. I started out walking to warm up and then started my run. I got about .4 miles done and my right shin start aching...bad! I ended up trying to walk fast and that just made the shin worse. So...instead of pushing myself. I quit. I feel so defeated. I did pump up the tires on my bike (workout in itself!) and ride for about 10 min up and down my street. I wanted to try to keep my HR up for a while longer so it wouldn't totally be a waste. Between the attempt to run and the minuscule bike ride, I got in 2.6 miles total and about 25 min of activity. Ugh. :headache:

I only work 7 miles from our home in the county. So it's about 10 min to work. Erica has about the same. Between us we use about $50 in gas every 2 weeks. The stang only gets 15 mpg but the new VW gets almost 30 in town.

Glad to hear everyone is doing good. Debra I hope you have the best trip ever and you come home feeling like the pretty princess you are:cloud9:

Lisa I don't work many 12 hour shifts. I left a job for this one where I made more money but worked a lot more hours, this 49 hr a week gravy job kinda feels like simi retirement compared to some of the jobs I've had.

I have an idea for next weeks YARC post already. Does anyone actually ever read them? Ravings of a mentally challanged Panda.

Off to work now bye y'all.

Working Panda:hippie:

Oh Panda. What I would give to work only 7 miles from my house! We use $50 in gas every 2-3 days! :scared1:

49 hours a week is still ALOT of hours!!! Wow! and you still get in all those workouts! Way to go! Great example!

I read your YARC, but don't post in them much. Keep'em coming! :goodvibes

Stacie

Just a quick note before setting into work:

Debra - have a great birthday trip!!! :bday: I also love going to character buffet (Crystal Palace is my fave) but not a big breakfast eater. An egg or two, toast, fruit, cottage cheese and I'm done. Fortunately DH eats more plus he still thinks it's worth it to have one-on-one time with the characters. Since it's your birthday I say just keep your healthier eating in mind and I'm sure you'll do fine. Enjoy!!

Hmmm, I work in my house, no travel except to my monthly staff meetings. My Jetta is a diesel and I get 45-50 mpg. I think I fill up every 2-3 weeks....oh and did I mention we had sun?? I figured if I was rubbing in my mileage and lack of ozone damage, I might as well add in that it was not raining here too, lol. :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I read all the YARC posts. Sometimes I respond and sometimes I do not. This one, in particular, I feel is directed more toward newbies. I do find great inspiration from everyone on the WISH team and hope that I inspire others too. I think that all of our quests are noble no matter whether they are general improved health, weight loss, 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, ultra or Goofy :scared1: . The beginning of the journey is really only a small portion of the experience. Once you get over the initial stick to it hurdle, it only comes back again and again with other added hurdles in there too.

I do love your YARC posts and try to participate in them. I think they are valuable resources for looking inside yourself and seeing things that others see and for making you realize that your accomplishments are great no matter what they are!!!

Glad everyone is doing well! :thumbsup2

I wanted to check in before my trip. We leave tomorrow night for WDW. I'll be MIA for a week. Hoping I don't gain too much while at WDW. :rolleyes1

Hope your birthday rocks Debra!

I was disappointed this morning. I tried to run for the first time since my half on Sunday and I had to stop at two miles. My left leg that hurt me near the end of the half started up again. I'm really concerned I did something to it. I want to run!!! I highly doubt I'll get my runs in at WDW. I was looking forward to running around the Epcot resort area, but I might as well take this time to let whatever it is heal.

Hope all of you have a great next week! :grouphug:

Have a great trip Shan. Color me jealous. I wish I was going to WDW again!!!

Have a great time!!! I wish I was going!!! Don't push it with the leg! Enjoy your time at WDW and I'm sure you can get back into the swing of things once you're home from vacation!!!

Have super time! :thumbsup2

Shan...Have a fantastic time on your trip.:goodvibes Take it easy on that leg.

Shan - have a great time and use it to let that leg rest. Well at least rest from running...

Happy Afternoon, Lean Meaners!

Ok, so I just found out I have to skip my workout this evening, but I'm already over my mileage total for last week, so I guess that's not so bad...my calf is also kind of tight, so maybe this will allow it to loosen up.

Still eating under my points and this will be the first workout I've missed. I knew it had to happen sometime ;)

Shan-- Allow me to add my good wishes and envy! Have a magical time! :wizard:

Lisa -- You are wise like a certain Panda I know! Very eloquently expressed! :)

Stacie -- Sorry you have a killer commute! We aren't going far, but we travel under Boston Harbor every day. I try not to think about the ocean all around me :scared1: So glad to hear you actually love the aquacise! I think that sounds like a ton of fun! :woohoo:

Dave -- (sung to the tune of "You are My Sunshine") You are our Panda, our favorite Panda, when you're not YARCing, are skies are gray. You'll never know, Dave, how much we love your posts. Please don't take our YARC time away! :lmao:

Tracey -- You are a workout machine! Great job!:yay:

Mike -- Welcome Back! It sounds like you had a great trip! :cool1:

Everyone have a great Lean Mean Evening!
Maria :cutie:

Last few posts before the trip! Sorry if it's brief, but I still wanted to post & let you know I'll think of you on the trip. You're gonna help me meet my goals, even when I'm not here! Thanks all for the b-day wishes! You're the best!

Beth: Thanks for the reminder about the water. I need to drink, drink, drink! (And not soda!) Yay for the walk, especially for the glutes workout.

Connie: Oh, I'm a gadgeteer too. There will be both a Garmin and a bodybugg in my future. Here's hoping your weekend weather is beeeyooteeeful! :cool1:

Mike: Woo hoo on the weight loss! I'd heard good things about the Swan/Dolphin beds, but had NOT heard the resort was a bit worn down. Too bad, because at those prices! :scared1:

Dave: I'm certainly going to miss your silliness over the next couple of days. I'll raise a toast to you, though, whether at Big River or elsewhere! But that's after I drink my water; I like to think I'm one of those people who need my 8 glasses + (because that makes me active)! I also read YARC & will try to think of clever things to post in response. But your posts are always so articulate & cover everything. Maybe I'll just pop in and give a :thumbsup2 or :cool1:

Tracey: You're absolutely right--not about the food. It's about the vain hope I have that I'll take a good picture with my favorite (non-human) people! :rotfl2: You're doing a great job with running so regularly, especially with the family challenges of your LR. :thumbsup2

Lisa: The button, the button! I need to remember the button. You Rock! And thanks for the reassuring words about Ohana. You're right; that will help me reign my breakfast horses in. Good luck with Great Bay this weekend! P.S. What is a Magic Bullet?

Tracey & Lisa: I'm going to try the pancake recipe when I get back, but will tweak it a bit with the lower cal suggestions. And it will probably be a dinner, because what's better than breakfast? Breakfast at night! :goodvibes

Stacie: You're always helpful & encouraging & supportive! I'm so sorry to hear about your aborted WO & especially the shin pain. But I'm also proud that you didn't just throw in the towel...you kept up the activity level & HR with a bike ride. You're committing to this lifestyle. Please remember that!

Liz: Ummm, I love your protein-laden suggestions for the breakfast. Good tips, as is the "get off the ledge, Debra, and relax." Not that you said it that way, you're all so much more polite than I deserve.

Shan: You have a great trip, and I'll think of you while I'm there! (Hey, get a character breakfast on Sunday a.m./9.30ish and I'll see you! That's all that I know for sure about the trip. If not, I know we're there together in spirit.) Relax, enjoy your recovery but don't push it. Remember that you pushed yourself for those last two miles on the race, and it's better to heal than make any potential injury/stress worse.

Maria: I hope your calf loosens up & you can keep your intensified WO schedule going. Good job with the points, too. Let me know how your biking/running schedule goes...And keep Ohana in line while I'm gone.

As for me: Well, you all know what's going on in my life. Gathered my airplane snacks/lunch, as we need to be at the airport around lunchtime. Oranges, cut veggies, Frigo cheese. I'll make a wrap tomorrow a.m., after my workout. I'm hoping for one, maybe two short runs, which means I'm packing the clothes. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen, but I'm pretty sure DOOD wouldn't pack the schedule in without any down time.

See you all next week!

I love all the WISH princesses, you guys are so good for the ego.

I made a typo, gee it was 5:30 in the morning here, I work 40 hours a week not 49 hours.

Maria that was so sweet, you are such a joy, you are our WISH Mary Poppins. I have to do a lot of calf stretching, something I never did enouth of before.

Debra, I would love to have that beer at the Big River. We are going to miss you witty funny posts this weekend.

Lisa, you are an inspiration and a good role model for living the way we should. Your strength of character is amazing.

Mike I'm glad you liked the SWAN, I didn't care for it. I guess that we expected it to be more Disney than it was. Just wasn'yt the same as a Disney owned resort.

Everyone knows that fast walking is the best workout for the glutes right?

Connie, I like gadgets also but when I'm training and especially racing I don't like stuff on me. I do a watch and an iPod mini but that's it. I bought a heart rate monitor and wore it once and gave it away. Erica does the garmin for us when we do our LSDs.

Everyone, especially the ones I missed have a super evening and a great weekend.

Leaner Panda:hippie:

Good morning all my Lean Mean friends. I am soooo happy with my run yesterday I just want to shout it from the rooftops!! I was on tap for a 30 minute run and I figured 3 miles or 30 minutes, whichever came first. I was running into the 30+ mph wind most of the way back and, come to think of it, it was never really blowing a tailwind on the way out. Anyway, I did 3.1 miles in 29:34 or a 9:32 mpm average which is unheard of for me. Must be taper. ;) You know when you come to your driveway with your hands in the air like Rocky that you have done something great. Too bad there was no one to gloat to at home and I had errands/kids and could not post to my WISH friends either.

So, today, snow/rain/freezing rain mix. Yep, it's my payback for gloating about the sun yesterday. Thankfully, it is only XT today and I can go to the gym for some elliptical and weights. I have found a new ab routine and if it works, I will post it for everyone.

Maria: Sorry you missed your workout. You took that much better than I do. Stretch that calf and I hope you get out there today. Travel under Boston Harbor??? I very much dislike bridges and tunnels but, given a choice, I take the tunnel. I do not like the whole under Boston thing though. I feel like I am lacking sun!!! Return of the mole people or something like that...:lmao:

Debra: A Magic Bullet is a small chopper/blender that is pretty much 1-2 servings. It is great for chopping nuts, grinding oats for flour and making smoothies when I don't need a lot. After workout drinks are good too as you don't need that much and it is a shame to haul out the big blender for that.

Stacie: $50 every 2-3 days...how do you afford WDW?????? :scared1:

Connie: I hope you have better weather. Maybe because I gloated, I got the crap and you got good stuff!! :rolleyes1

Lily: Carryover from the main thread: CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR RELEASE!! Let the workouts begin in force. Watch out everyone, Lily's back!!!! :woohoo: :yay:

Dave: A good example, inspiration, oh my, my head is swelling as we speak. I do try to do the right thing, eating and exercise wise anyway  for my kids and for myself. Losing my dad so young and seeing them grow up without him has had a HUGE impact on me. If I can change some things about the way I live and be there longer for them and for my grandchildren, it is worth every painful step!! :upsidedow

I hope everyone has a great weekend and meets all their goals they set for this week. I have my half on tap and there are 4 others from the Super Goofs team that will be there with me along with my SIL. Here's hoping that we all finish happy and healthy!!! :dance3:

Hey, Everybody! How's things shakin?

Dave Yea, I guess sometimes I AM wired for sound. But since I have to carry a pack to survive my long training days anyway, what's a little more. Sometimes, by the time I get the shuffle on and the garmin on and the bodybugg on and the cell phone in and the food in and the water in and the keys and.......I feel like a dog on a leash! The one thing I can easily forego though, is the music. I have the benefit of silence in my world, if I want to take advantage of it.

Lisa I am sorry you got the crappy weather....did you gloat??? :confused3 It's supposed to be really nice later on today. I have a long walk planned. I hope it's pleasant.

Everyone fighting injuries and illness....get good quick!

I am still working on my weight loss. I may have lost another pound....hard to tell right now. I have this weird thing that when I know I have to weigh, my body retains water like it hasn't had a drop to drink in weeks.

Good mornin' everyone! TGIF!:cool1:
Lisa...YAY! Awesome run, you were smokin':cheer2:
Panda....I always read the YARC and post when it applies to me. They are very inspirational.
Maria...hope the calf feels better. In the Chi Running book there's an exercise where you lay on the ground, facing the wall, and put you your feet/legs up on the wall. You then massage your legs, kind of like wringing them out. Then when you stand up, new blood goes to your legs. I found that this helps with leg pain. Plus it makes your legs feel rejuvenated. Do you add in extra WW points for exercise? I haven't been and I'm wondering if I should.
Debra & Shan....If you're still hanging around, have a great trip.
Stacie...don't beat yourself up. When you got back from your stonker R/W you could have sat on the couch with a soda and chips, instead you pumped up your bike tires and went for a ride. You are awesome!
Liz, Vic, Connie, Bill,Mike and anyone else I've missed....Have a wonderful day.
I'll leave you with one of my sons favorite quotes:
Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, "Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?"
Peter Maher,Irish-Canadian marathoner

Good morning folks! I don't have much time today, I am heading for work at 11:00 after some errands.

Got a decent 5 miler in last night. Did it in 53:00......not bad. Better than 11:00 min miles......I'll take it! Though, not as good as our friend Lisa! You rock girlfriend! Very speedy run! :cool1: :cool1:

Eating is maintained, but with some difficulty......I was very hungry yesterday, since I ran instead of having lunch. Sometimes I don't have the time for everything. Today's workout at the gym is pre-empted by another trip to the laundramat. Oh well, I might try to catch something tonight....maybe a walk on my treadmonster.

Have a good day!

Beth

Good morning guys and pretty princesses.

I had a wonderfull workout today. The only way to describe it was I felt well oiled. Like the stretching is finally making a difference. All my motion felt very fluid and my energy level was very high.

4 miles on the tready since it is still raining, 3 inches in the last 24 hours. Then good stretching routine, calistetics and dynamic weight routine.

I was back up to 172.4 today, I'm bouncing around between the 170 to 172.5range. A lot has to do with how much water I drank as well as the amount of food and exercise I had the day before.

Everyone have a super day and an awesome weekend.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Happy Friday!

Hope everyone is having a good day. Saw the southern end of the storm that gave us light rain yesterday. :scared1: Stay safe and try to stay dry.

Lisa - great run!
Beth - WTG on yours too!

 To everyone else!!

As for me, had a really good day yesterday after a really bad evening Wed. Bad enough that I seriously thought about dropping out from the Minnie and just staying home. Only got in a mile due to shin pain again and it took 18 minutes. Was so frustrated and upset just decided "never mind...this is never going to happen".

Well re-read parts of my walking books, a thread on WISH about arm technique and a couple of Panda inspirational posts. Went out at lunch yesterday and did 1.5 miles out with minimal pain in 25 minutes. Rested for 5 minutes and came back with no pain and in 22 minutes. Kept repeating the walking instructions/techniques in my head along with parts of posts. I was so thrilled (yeah, still slow but no pain!).

Last night worked with trainer for an hour then put in another 2 miles on the bike (he worked my legs after core and realized quickly they were not in the mood for anything more).

THANKS to everyone for always being here for all us newbies. For knowing what to say even if it's a kick in the rear. I do believe I can do this now. I have the drive, I have the determination (we have the technology...we can rebuild him...) sorry.....just had to....

Have a great weekend!

Liz

I got an ugly 4 miler in 40 minutes this morning...Work is kicking my tail all over town, so I still need to get to the pool for a 45 minute swim tonight!

The weather is teasing me right now, 52 and sunny, and the forecast on my PC says SIXTY tomorrow!!!!:woohoo:

I was at the doctors today and had some stuff frozen off my foot...in addition to the instant pain from the frostbite, the long workouts on Sat and Sunday should be interesting...

Have a wonderful weekend all.. Mike is proud of you for sticking to your goals (whatever that is worth)!

Mike :thumbsup2
