Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Illinois does not have a shall issue law, and concealed carry permits are next to impossible to get here

Anyway, heading out for my 60 minute run...lets see what happens today, its actually reasonably nice out for us, 25 degrees, and mostly cloudy...

Vic, when Erica decided to get her concealed weapon permit I bought her a small S/W nickle plated 38 revolver with a 2" barrell. She went to the class and when she came home she said she wanted a Glock compact 40cal. So I got her a Glock 40cal and also a Glock compact in a 357sig. That year she fired about 5,000 rounds at the range learning to combat shoot. I have a good friend who taught at the Marine Sniper school who worked with her when I couldn't. Between us we trained her pretty good. She can draw and clear 5 bowling pins off a table at 15 yards in under 10 secs.

Shooter Panda:hippie:

Guess I've got another motivation to stay ahead of sweepers (and some other WISH walkers).:scared1: Come to think of it, maybe I want to stay behind certain WISH walkers.

6.3 hilly miles on a cold day...I'm pretty happy with that effort, especially since I had to stop and walk 2x...the first mile was around 7:35...I guess I got slower as time went by...sort of the story of the last 43 years!

Have a great Easter everyone...I'm settling in for 48 wonderful hours off from training!:cool1:

Mike

Oh, no Lisa! I hope your son feels better fast and you don't get it!

Day five for me and I'm still out of commission. This has been a killer. I don't recall the last time I felt this bad for so long. Seriously worried about my half now...

Shan, you are going to be fine. I had one eight mile run after my surgery and it was not lightening speed by any means. I think you have to set a realistic goal for yourself at this point and if you exceed it, good for you!!! I told myself I wanted to finish the half under 2:45. As I was entering EPCOT, I checked my Garmin and knew if I dug deep, I could beat 2:30. Well with the crowds and the way they snake you around the corners, I ended up at 2:31. Still, light years ahead of my goal. You are going to do a lot better than you believe right now. DS6 is still coughing and sore throat but the fever FINALLY broke. Poor baby, his eyes were all puffy and he just had NO energy which is soooooo abnormal for him. He is wired for sound like his mom most of the time. I am fighting with everything I have but scratchy throat and stuffy nose. Ramping up the vitamins and water, using my serious inhaler to keep pneumonia at bay. I have had pneumonia the last 2 springs in a row!!!!!!!!!

Have a great day everyone. I hope the Easter candy did not do everyone in. I ran 8 miles yesterday in the blistering (seriously) wind and so candy was the last thing on my mind. My SIL has decided, last minute, to sign up for the Great Bay half. I maintain about a 10:30 mpm pace and she is more than a minute faster. There is no heavy breathing smilie so I will have to use this one...:faint: LOL

Good Morning Lean Meaners!!! Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!

I got in my 5 mile run yesterday! My longest mileage yet! I walked more than I would have liked, but HR still seemed to be a bit high...Avg 177 bpm for the 5 miles, peaked at 187... I need to do some research. Overall, it was good...really slow...14:48 pace, but I got it in. Will this WIND ever go away??? geez! :goodvibes

It's cold and supposed to be a bit rainy today, but for my first run this week Wed, it's looking like 70 Degrees is on tap! yay!

Shan...I hope you are feeling better soon!

Deb...Glad the new shoes are working out!!! Gotta love 'em

Lisa...Sending :wizard: for your son and for you to keep that pneumonia at bay!!!

Mike...Enjoy that 48 hrs off!!! and running in 25 degrees! yikes! That's cold!

Vic...Hope your business trip to Orlando went well! I have no idea about anything gun related, but sounds fun! :goodvibes

Panda...When you get done w/ your kitchen, can you come clean mine??? I think that's what DH will be doing tonight while I'm the gym! yay! Can't ask for more! I got XT and he cleans the kitchen! :upsidedow

Beth... Good job getting your miles in! 10!!! You go girl!!! So proud of you!

Lilly, Bill, Tracy...How guys doing???

Hope I didn't miss anyone... If so, Sorry, sorry, sorry!!!

Have a great day!

Good morning Lean Meaners! Well, the weekend is over already.....:sad2: It went quick! I hate when that happens.

Yesterday was the whole family visiting day. Covered many miles to see my family and dh's family. We ended up eating ham twice! My kids were really sick of ham by the end of the day.

I ate fairly well. Had a few bites of carbs, but nothing over the top. I was happy with how the day went. My cookies were popular, but we ended up bringing some home.....I only ate one.  Could have been worse.

I got to run outside both days of the weekend, which always makes me happy! It's nice to get out, even if it's a little cold. I ran 8 on Sat and 3miles on Sunday before we left. I am glad I got something done! :dance3:

Shan: I hope you are feeling better......what a bummer to be sick with your 1/2 coming up. I hope things work out.

WWDave: Remind me not to make Erica mad! She sounds like a great 'shot' and I won't mess with her!

Stacie: Good job on your LR. Wind gets to me too, but good for you sticking it out and getting it done!

Beth

Hi all. Hope you had a great week-end.:cool1:
I spent the week-end cleaning and cooking for company and then actually hosting said company for Easter. We love to have everyone over, so it was a great Easter for us, but not so good for exercise. And did I say, way too much food eaten on Sunday! Today is another day.
The kids have today off and then everyone goes back to school tomorrow.
Lisa...Hope your little guy is feeling better.
Shan...Sending more healthy wishes your way.:wizard:
Everyone...Have a wonderful day.

Awww, you folks are too nice to me. Would you like talk to my ILs, who see me as a force of darkness & sign of the apocalypse? (Or at least a highly sarcastic person?)

Beth: I think the runs you've been putting in are incredible. Your body is so strong to do what it's doing. I think we can forget about how accomplished we are sometimes, maybe especially when we're on WISH with other incredible athletes. My parents, with whom I talked with yesterday, are just amazed at how active DOOD and I are--but we think of ourselves as really quite sedentary. So I think we all need to be reminded at all the good things we're doing for our bodies, even as we try to make better & better choices.

Dave: And in case I haven't said it enough, Dave, you're really one of the most positive forces here! You remind us to support each other and keep moving forward. That said, you can move forward to my neck of the woods & clean my kitchen, if you'd like. It's very unloved.

Bill: Good thoughts on the recipe threads; I do think a link on the first page would be helpful. And Lily, when I get a recipe that actually IS healthy AND tastes good--beyond my simple meals of beans & rice or rice & beans (variety, you know)--I'll be sure to post it.

Lisa: But again, thank YOU for the bread recipe (and the cookie one, which I have yet to make). I've got bread in the oven as we speak, and it smells so good. :cloud9: My mom even asked for the recipe!

Oh, and your yesterday sounded...well....challenging. (That's the polite way to put it.) I'm so impressed by your fortitude & sense of humor about it. Like you said, priceless, as will be the Great Bay with your SIL. Will you two be compromising on the pace? I'm also glad to hear your DS's fever broke. Hopefully he's on the mend.

Vic: Concealed weapon permit? Is there a relationship between that and the Orlando trip? Are you a member of the Florida mob or something? :lmao:

Mike: I read about your success on the weekly thread. Excellent pace! Plus hilly & cold. You're an IM machine.

Shan: Oh, and pixiedust: Shan. I can't imagine how nerve-wracking this must be for you, on top of feeling ill. I still believe you have time to get better & that you WILL get better & be able to participate. Hang in there!

Stacie: I know I said this on the weekly thread, but it's nice to hear about your longest run yet. 5 miles and in the wind. You're making such good progress! :goodvibes

Tracey: Your Easter holiday weekend sounds busy & filled with love. Does it get any better than that? I hope you enjoyed every bite, btw, and think that it's such gatherings that make us remember why we all have such happy associations with food! :lovestruc

As for me: I posted this on the weekly thread, but I totally failed to meet my running goal today. No energy--no pain, either, so that's good--and I called it quits after 2.75 miles. I don't know why, as there's nothing that seemed different about yesterday for us. (Except I did that that single-serving Vosges bar I'd been saving for a special occasion. Mmmm.) DOOD had very little energy too, and bagged his run from the start, so maybe it's just the need for a rest day. *sigh* Whatever the reason, I was pretty disappointed with myself.

In happier news, fresh bread tonight! And I've made my first attempt at chocolate protein bars mace with soy protein supplement, although I haven't tasted them yet. I mean, I don't really need to eat a protein bar for the above run, now, do I? :lmao: But I hope that they taste better than they look. :scared1:
I'll keep you updated.

I really don't understand why I haven't lost some more weight...I started at about 250 almost a year ago, and while I am down to 217 (this morning), I've been floating between 212 and 218 for months.

I really thought with the additional training that I would have lost more. My training partner has dropped from the same 250 to 195...I'd be overjoyed to get back to my playing weight of 200 even.

I wonder if he has more discipline on the servings sizes than I do.

Oh well...tomorrow is a 45 minute swim with a 35 minute brick run.

Mike, do you record what you eat? By monitoring your caloric intake it should help you see if you are taking in too much....or too little. Either way is gong to cause no weight loss and may even cause gain. It is such a fine balance. Awhile ago, Connie posted the formula to determine your caloric needs on this thread. I found it very enlightening and quite helpful. Myself, I tend to not eat enough and I do suffer because of that.

Debra: You do such a great job keeping up with everyone. I find it hard to keep up with myself most of the time!! I am in complete awe...:worship:

I am just going to post a big HELLO to everyone out there today. I have caught the upper respiratory garbage that my son has and I am using my inhalers and upping the vitamins. I am going to try and maintain my runs and XT until the half on 4/6 but today, it seems nearly impossible. On top of not feeling well, I checked the extended forecast for the half and it says 40 and raining. Yay...:sad2:

Group hug for Lisa:grouphug:

Sounds like you should just go to the recliner and put your little feet up and drink something warm. You will not lose any fitness if you take a heal day and you will probably recover much faster.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Checking in! I'm feeling better today! :yay:
Still have a little yucky action going on in the nose and chest, but don't feel like a log just laying around anymore.
Thanks for all the pixie dust. That sure was a killer bug.

Lisa, I'm so sorry you are sick now. My turn to send the pixie dust - :wizard:

Debra, I'm impressed with all the bread making! :thumbsup2

Yay Shan!!! So glad you are feeling better! :yay:

Lisa...:wizard: I hope you're not down and out for too long!!! :goodvibes Feel better soon!!!

Mike...I'm w/ ya on the weight thing...I'm struggling too.

Deb...I have the same problem w/ my ILs! :goodvibes At least you got part of your run instaed of none of it! Way to go!!! Fresh bread...hmmm Send some my ok!

Beth... Great job getting your runs in this weekend! WTG on the food victories!!! :thumbsup2

For me... I did 40 min on the elliptical last night...2.6 miles! yay! It's crazy how the mind works. With in 3-5 min (1 song) I can go from happy, to sad, to hopeless, to kicking hiney, to why did I sign up for the Minnie, then to visualizing crossing the finish line, no energy, to plenty of energy.... CRAZY!! It's so hard for me to stay focused, I feel like my emotions area all over the place during my runs/workouts. I felt good after I finished! Any workout is good when I don't feel dead after! I'm not losing any weight, but...I know I am healthier. A few years ago, heck, a few months ago, 40 min on the elliptical would have been impossible! I remember when it was a struggle to just get 10. I actually probably could have gone a bit longer, but 40 min was on the schedule for XT (plus I had errands to run) so that's what I did.

Ok...now, someone give me a virtual pat on the back! :goodvibes I packed my lunch today!!! First time in months! I'm having lasagna and 3 garlic knots for lunch. We are trying to be more budget conscious so I went grocercy shopping (actually I did it online and then just picked it up! Well worth the $6 fee!!!) and bought some frozen lunches and some stuff for sandwiches and all. Let's hope this will get me through two weeks! I also hope this will help eat a bit healthier. I've done well cutting out the soda...now to tackle the sweets!

Ok folks...all for now! Wow, that was much longer than planned. Guess I'm a bit chatty today! :upsidedow

Hope everyone has a great day!!!
Stacie

Good morning, Lean Meaners!
Stacie... (no back patter, so you get a hug) you are doing awesome and living a much healthier lifestyle. Yay for keeping to your schedule and in my mind, I see you crossing the finish line with arms raised in victory and a great big smile on your face!
Shan...Glad you're feeling better.
Lisa...Sorry you're feeeling icky.
Mike...I hear you on the weight issues. I've been staying in the same 3lb range since mid-Jan and I still have weight to lose. It's upsetting, but my runs are getting longer and I'm definitely getting stronger, so I'm trying to focus on that for now. It sounds like your work-outs are going great and that you have become quite an athlete.
Debra...You're as encouraging as always. Sorry the run didn't go as expected--tomorrow is another day! I don't think all the rain that we've been getting is helping anything. Take care and don't beat yourself up. Let me know how the protein bars taste.
Have a great day everybody else!

Good morning Lean Meaners.....another work day for me! But, my work week is short this week.....just tomorrow yet! My ds has a allergy doctor's appointment on Thursday, so I didn't pick up an extra day this week.

Yesterday's Pilates didn't work out for me....  Its the only class I want to do, and of course I came home to total caos yesterday and couldn't get out the door in time. I was really ticked! I managed to get to the gym late and do 40 min run on the treadmill.....which wasn't fun at all!

Now I am dealing with a sore left quad and right calf muscle. I have trouble running 3 days in a row sometimes, but all the ellipticals were taken when I got to the gym.

Stacie: Good job packing your lunch! I pack every day, and know what a pain it is. I do save a ton of money packing breakfast and lunch, but the night before when I am packing it I HATE IT! It also saves a ton of calories, which is important. I have been doing the menu thing for awhile to save money and trips to the grocery store, and it really does save time and money.

Debra: Sorry to hear that your run didn't happen for you! :sad2: I know just how you feel. Sometimes your body needs a rest, but the guilt drives me crazy! And the whole IL thing......want to know a secret??? My MIL didn't call me by name for 4 years after I married dh! :scared: She liked the first DIL, and was mad at dh for divorcing her. She despised me for a long time.....I am still not her favorite person!.......Guess what??? I DON'T CARE! She isn't the nicest person in the world, but I don't have to see her much either. :) It's all how you look at it. I know that I was good for dh, and she doesn't want to see that.....so what? You are a postive person, and we are really glad to have you here!!!:yay:

WWDave: How the kitchen come out??? Well loved probably!

Beth

Yes Beth dear the kitchen feels loved again. Erica even made us some chilli with Boca soy protien meat substitute. It was very good. Home cooked food is a rare thing for us since our schedules are so different.

I'm going back and forth on the scale with between a 9 and 10 pounds of weight lost. I'm watching it pretty close since I'm trying to make sure I'm eating enouth. My eating habits have changed dramaticly. I used to eat like a starved shark and often ate more than I needed but when you eat fast it takes a while for your body to tell you it's full. I'm eating about half what I was before because by eating slower and cutting my food in smaller bites I get full quicker.

Example: When I go for breakfast at Bob Evans, I would get a veggie omlet, home fries, 2 sasuage patties, sourdough toast and coffee. Now, no toast or sasuage and I'm full by the time I'm half way through the omlet and potatoes. No cheese on the omlet either.

I've lost a size in my waist, and I'm sure I've muscled back up a bit also, since I had a lot of down time after the Goofy. That achillies tendonitis was really bothering me. The stretching and icing has really helped.

Have an awesome day dear friends.

Happy Panda:hippie:

I am starving!!! Ugh. Is it lunch time yet??? :upsidedow

Thanks Tracey. It was kinda funny. I was on the ellipitcal and got to thinking about crossing the finish line at the Minnie 15K. My mom and dad will be there along w/ my sister, BIL and DH is running it w/ me. I thought about seeing them and how proud they would be -- along with some of my WISH friends I know I will see -- and I almost came to tears on the elliptical machine!!! CRAZY!

The 15K will be my longest race yet. Yay! I started w/ the 5K in January. Decided to work up to the 15K in May and then will do the 1/2 Marathon in January 09. I am kinda sad though that none of my family will be there in January to see me complete the 1/2 Marathon. I know I can't drag them to all my races, but these are milestones and I really wish they could be there--especially my dad. :guilty:

Panda...Glad you have a happy kitchen now! I am trying to watch the portion control too, but this whole running/walking/training thing has me starving...all the time!

Beth...Sorry you didn't get your class in yesterday. If I get off schedule because LTO, I get so irritated. I feel your pain. Today I won't get in my aquacise, but it's by choice. Time to get ready for spring and get a new hair do! :goodvibes

Stacie

Stacie: How funny, my hair appointment is at 2 p.m. today. Must be the right time of year!! I went to the half in January by myself. My mom drove over from Tampa but that was it. I know it is hard to imagine being by yourself (in that sea of people you are NEVER by yourself) but when you are coming into the home stretch and see all the lime shirts in the crowd cheering for you, it is just like having family there. Meeting up with everyone after the race and talking exciting things and what happened out there is something you don't get to do with your family also...unless you are lucky enough to have them run/walk with you. My DH will go to the races, complains of having it take me so long to finish and then not listen to me afterward. It is kind of annoying.

As for the hunger..try a glass of water. I also keep some almonds on my desk. They say people who eat nuts don't gain weight...or was that people who are nuts...either way, I'm covered!! I am so jealous that you can order your food and pick it up. What a great way to avoid walking around the store buying on impulse!!

Beth: Sorry for the missed class. It annoys me also when LTO and you are the one to give up all the time!!!

Debra: Sorry for the run. Today is another day. Last week, I was supposed to do my 40 minutes and was banished to the basement TM and I just could not do it. I was torturing myself. I did the run the next day and it went MUCH better. Mindset is a killer for me.

I am feeling a little better :rolleyes1 thinking about running, the sun is out :cool2: it is warm and I AM GOING TO KICK THIS THING today. :sad2: Stay tuned for the run report and the new haircut report. I am going short!!!!
