Becoming an Officiant?

Hello everyone,

My fiance and I are not religious and would like a simple and sweet ceremony and would like my brother to officiate. However, my brother is not an official officiant. I'm looking for any help with this. Have any of you had a family member certified to lead your ceremony? What site did you use to do so? I'd appreciate any help or information. TIA

My mom performed my wedding. Check with your state, MA allows anyone to apply (they have to send a letter to the governor with a letter of recommendation on their character) to be an legal officiant for one day for one couple. This is how my mom was able to perform our wedding.

If you're getting married in Fl. you have several options. Under FL, a notary or any "ordained" person can perform a ceremony.

The notary has to be a Fl. resident. DF's good friend did this on-line for our wedding.

My girlfriend became ordained online at www.spiritualhumanism.org/ because she lives out of state.

Both are friends are officiating together

The easiest thing is to obtain an officiant's license from that church of Spiritual Humanism she mentioned or the Universal Life Church online (www.themonastery.org/). Either one would work in Florida.

My dad will be using http://www.themonastery.org/ to perform our ceremony. I think I did read somewhere that he will need to have the "card" saying that he is ordained, and I think it costs around 10 dollars.

I became ordained by the Universal Life Church to perform a wedding for a friend in Wisconsin. Just make sure you check what the local state regulations are. In Wisconsin, for example, I had to be "sponsored" by an in-state minister of the church to perform the ceremony. The process was pretty quick.

My husband's best friend got ordained through the Universal Life Church- http://www.themonastery.org- and married us in Disney with no problem. It was a really simple process for him to become ordained, just follow the directions on the site. I am really happy we had him marry us because my husband and I are different religions and also we are not religious at all, so it was perfect for us. We now call him The Rev! lol Hope this helps!
