Becky & Jason's Fairy Tale wedding 9/3/11 on Long Island - *complete*

That's telling him girl:thumbsup2

OMG! You are using "Falling Slowly" :cutie: You know I love that one :goodvibes I love the harp that is going to be absolutely beautiful on your day!

Yeah, I saw it on your list and it was one I had been thinking about anyway. :goodvibes It's actually one of the first ones that came to my mind because it's the first song I heard my friend play on harp and she does it beautifully. :lovestruc

Catching up...The Melting Pot is delicious, glad you and you DF had a nice weekend.
Board games are terrific! I played them with my DBF a few weekends ago myself.

Congrats on getting a harp at your wedding! That is going to be beautiful. I will be honest, I don't know much about your song choices, except for So This is Love. And that's a gorgeous piece, it is going to sound wonderful!

Thank you! Yes, board games are great... we were in a board game club when we were in college and so we got used to playing for one night a week, and now I really miss it!

And DF and I watched Cinderella last night and now I'm even more excited about So This is Love.

Candy Buffet!

So I am pleased to say that Vicki really inspired me to have a candy buffet. I think it's a fun idea that everyone will like, a little bit unique, and delicious! I wasn't sure if we would have money in the budget for it but we got a really good deal on our photographer so we have a little bit extra. Yay! :woohoo:

My big thought right now is if I want to go with a color themed candy buffet or just get all sorts of candies. I love the way that one or two colors of candies looks... but to be honest, it's not much variety of flavors for guests. But I do think this looks really cool:

Blue-Candy-Buffet.jpg

If I don't do one color I do think I'd like to avoid the "rainbow" look because it just doesn't really go with my overall theme. I'm also thinking about hitting up some stores in the next week since it will be just after Valentine's Day... I thought Conversation Hearts might be cute to do as one of the candies since they have romantic messages on them...

What do you think? Should I do all blue and silver candies to make it more aesthetically appealing, or go with a variety of colors so we can have a variety of flavors?

If it were me, I'd stick to my color scheme. You can get some really neat things in your colors. You could do blue and white. There's tons of candies in those colors :) rock candy, m&m's, white chocolate covered pretzels, lollipops, blue and white candy hearts, blue chocolate fondue, all sorts of things! I think it would look great!

Everyone in my family is super excited about the idea of a candy buffet. We told my Grandmother last night and she was completely thrilled! Hehe, 85 years old and still loving candy. :rotfl: And Kristi, I think you're right, we'll be able to find enough variety of blue/white/silver candies. I've found a number of websites that sell candy in bulk by color. Yum, it's going to be awesome!

Jason and I also got to meet with the photographer this past weekend. It was a good experience overall. I've been going a little crazy trying to find one because it's important to me to have good pictures, but we also can't spend thousands of dollars on photography. But the woman that we found is extremely affordable, and she had gorgeous pictures! :woohoo: We looked at so many photos, and it was a nice combination of formal shots and candids. Plus she seemed very professional and was able to answer all of our questions well. For instance, the last photographer we talked to we asked him what would happen if he got sick or was unable to come the day of the wedding. he said, "Don't worry,I won't get sick. I'll be there no matter what." :confused3 I didn't realize you were God... and if you are sick or puking I certainly don't want you there! But this photographer had a network of back-ups and even described a time when she thought she might miss a wedding because her sister was going into labor and had another photographer on standby. So I feel pretty confident with her and I'm super glad we got the photographer taken care of!

:rotfl2: you had me gagging with this lol! That's telling 'em girl. Definitely a good idea to move on from this guy, definitely some red flags going on. I once had a vendor tell me that once and I was like "We'll keep in touch.". It's one thing to say yes I have a back up his/her name is ...., but I wont get sick it's another to just say "oh don't worry your pretty little head about that little bride I will be there" bc that's exactly what their saying when they make those statements to us.

Yeah for doing a candy buffet! I had the same question you did about the color problem. I love the look of it with like colors but for us it was hard to find candies in all our colors. I mean one of my colors was black so it was basically black licorice and a few other options:scared:ick! We didn't want to order online, which was what we would've had to do bc of our color choices, bc shipping charges are insane like $30 per candy option for us:scared1: So we decided that since movies is part of our theme we would do our favorite movie candies :). If you want to save money it would certainly be easier to a SAMs Club or Walmart.com like we did, but if you have the money in the budget I would definitely go for online ordering in your colors :thumbsup2 We were going to use candywarehouse.com. They have lots of color options :)

Yeah, I saw candywarehouse and they have a ton of options but I couldn't find any shipping fees. I'm going to keep exploring the internet - I found a website called CandyFavorites.com that does free shipping if your order is over $70. They don't have as many options but they still have a lot. I'll find something! This is part of my future job - searching the internet to find what I need :surfweb:

:surfweb: I wish this was my job...haha!!

As I discovered last semester, it's very much part of my job! Well... maybe not finding wedding stuff exactly, but locating information. I dunno if I mentioned but I'm training to become a librarian. One of my classes last semester my final was to answer five questions for the IPL (Internet Public Library). It basically ended up being a search for all sorts of obscure information on the internet! But I have some good searching tools now :thumbsup2

Ooh that sounds like something I'd like. I often wonder why in the world I majored in marketing...haha WHAT WAS I THINKING?? :rotfl:

Favors!

I love all the little stuff about planning a wedding, so favors were something I was excited about. I've had a few ideas, still not 100% sure, but here's what I came up with.

The first is to do a place card holder that can then be taken home as a favor to use as a mini picture frame. I found one that I really love:

This is still probably my favorite favor. I like it because it goes with theme, and it works as nice decor, and you can take it home!

I also was considering bookmarks, since I have books and fairy tales for my centerpieces. These are cute, or I could make my own:

Then I thought perhaps something edible would be best... but since we are having a candy buffet I think we have that covered!

I love the bookmarks!! They are super cute. Of course I love books too.

The picture frames are adorable as well.

Very Good choices!!

I really like the frames:thumbsup2 We are just sticking with the candy buffet for our favors, we even stuck our monogram on the take home bags so they know where that candy came from!!!:lmao:

That's cute! :cutie: Yeah, I figured we could get away with that too, but I just love both of these other favors so much that I really want to include at least one of them!

You probably were thinking the same thing that I was when I chose political science :confused3

Is it bad that I feel this way about teaching!?? :lmao:

Becky- You are studying to have my dream job!! I've always wanted to be in library science, I love cataloging books and the smells of old books and libraries.... does that make me a weirdo? :confused3

I like the table picture frames!! I also agree that you could always just keep the candy buffet as your favors? But I love those frames! :)
