Becky & Jason's Fairy Tale wedding 9/3/11 on Long Island - *complete*

Lovely, Lovely, Lovely time :) I have never been to Sea World, but it looks like my kind of place!

This looks like such a fun day! (Well, except for that buffet, anyway.) I haven't been to Sea World since I was 8, and it looks NOTHING like I remember. But I wanted to say--- I totally know what you mean about getting teary about being in Florida and seeing things and realizing how lucky you are. This is why I cry at everything when I'm in WDW. Seriously. I hate parades and, in March, I cried during the friggin 3:00 parade! :grouphug:

Yay Sea World!!! I love the penguins, I could stop and watch them allll day long. I have yet to see the Shamu show because last time we went they'd closed it off.

I agree the dolphin show is Amazing, if I remember correctly didn't they have birds in it too?

Looks like you had a great time, looking forward to your DTD update x

That roller coaster sounds awesome!!! I so wanna ride it! I love roller coasters!

And yum...frozen lemonade. I always get them in Disney. It's perfect for a hot day!

Brian does all of those silly poses with random things too. He likes to try on hats and random things, and pose with strange things as well. Such a dork...haha!

Yes, you have to try that roller coaster! Or at least one like it :)

Lovely, Lovely, Lovely time :) I have never been to Sea World, but it looks like my kind of place!

Definitely try and go sometime! I know it can be hard to drag yourself away from Disney, but I think Sea World is worth a day!

Exactly! I think Disney, but also Orlando overall, is just such a special, magical place :wizard:

If you ever get the chance to see the Shamu show you should - it's not quite as good as dolphin one, but still really good! And the dolphin show did have birds! That gave me a bit of a surprise ;)

Downtown Disney!

Tuesday was our "break day" of the vacation, and everyone mostly wanted to hang out at the resort. Jason and I, however, decided to go to DTD for a few hours! We invited anyone that wanted to come, but only his cousin and her friend accepted.

This was a great moment because it was the first sign of Disney I'd seen this trip! Nothing like seeing that mouse for the first time:

P1040450.jpg

Our first stop was Once Upon a Toy. There was so much fun stuff in here! Jason posed with his favorite Disney character:

P1040453.jpg

Inside the store we also spotted a great Mickey and Minnie pair:

P1040454.jpg

We hit up a bunch of stores quickly. I remember the Christmas store was a highlight - I absolutely love Christmas, and could definitely spend some money in this store! I believe it was in this store that we also found a wedding display:

P1040458.jpg

So much fun stuff :)

Another important stop was the new lego store. There were lots of fun new lego creations outside! I especially liked this one:

P1040474.jpg

Also a place I had to go to was D-Street, for the vinylmations! Linda and Liz, Jason's cousin and her friend, hadn't heard of them before, but I got them both addicted! :woohoo: They each started their own collection and bought about four during the trip. I loved this table:

P1040478.jpg

For anyone that collects, I got some good vinyls. I bought two Park 6's and got the Magic Kingdom/Epcot sign, and a wet paint Donald. I also bought the nerd Donald (so cute!). And when I got home to PA I had to go to the Disney store since they were having the buy one get one free sale!

Before we left we decided to grab some lunch at the Earl of Sandwich. It was already 2:30 and we were going to dinner at 6, so Jason and I decided to just split one so we didn't fill up. We got the full Montagu:

P1040486.jpg

P1040487.jpg

This was SO GOOD. I can be really picky when it comes to sandwiches, especially with sauces, but this tasted amazing. I don't know how they make the mustard on this, but it was such good mustard. I also got the Earl's Grey Lemonade, which was supposed to be a mixture of iced tea and lemonade. I thought it would be really good, since I love lemonade iced tea mixtures and Earl Grey is my favorite kind of tea. However, this was kind of a let down. It tasted really watered down, and you could barely taste the lemonade part. I expected it to be much stronger and sweeter.

Then it was back to the resort for an hour or two before heading out to dinner at one of the Orlando dinner shows!

Arabian Nights

This was the dinner show that we went to. I believe we got discounted tickets as part of the timeshare, and that's why we went. To be honest, it wasn't really something I would do again. Probably not something I would've done in the first place either, but it was good enough for the evening!

The show has a rather weak plot line, and mostly it comes down to tricks with horses.

P1040501.jpg

P1040504.jpg

P1040512.jpg

P1040520.jpg

Now, I'm definitely not some crazy animal rights activist (though I like animals!), but there were some moments where I was wondering if the horses were bothered by what they had to do, and that made me somewhat uncomfortable. Even though they gave a whole talk about how they treat the horses and what their daily schedule is. They get lots of treats and rest time, and no horse is in the show for more than about 10 minutes, so I guess that's good.

The only part that was really impressive was a man who did some amazing acrobatics on the back of the horse. There were two horses galloping in a circle, and he would do a back flip from one horse to the other! And a bunch of other tricks. That was so cool.

The food was all right. Nothing special. I got the grilled chicken:

P1040506.jpg

Jason got the steak:

P1040507.jpg

My dish was actually better than it looked. The chicken was pretty moist. The only thing I didn't like was the potatoes - WAY too much butter in them! The best part was definitely this:

P1040490.jpg

You got free soda or one type of beer or wine with your meal. He refilled my glass once, and Jason's aunt ordered wine and then passed it down to me, so I was in a pretty good mood by the end of the night :cool1:

There was also dessert. Jason got the cheesecake:

P1040516.jpg

He said it was okay, though there was something slightly disappointing about it for some of the people in his group. His aunt said it was too cheesy? :confused3 I don't know, because i got this:

P1040517.jpg

It was extremely chocolatey... but the good thing is that I love chocolate! It was thick but pretty good overall. Not really soft and moist, more of a hard cake and brownie, but not in a bad way. And if you notice in the picture there's a candle in it. Jason's aunt told the waiter we were getting married in two months and he decided to celebrate! That was nice, but I have to say this guy was one of the most annoying waiters I've ever had. He kept repeating the same things over and over again, stupid little catch phrases like "I got your back." And when he was serving our table and pouring drinks his little station was set up directly in front of my seat, which was annoying since there was a show going on! But overall I did have a good time, just probably wouldn't go back again... too many other fun and exciting things to do in Orlando for dinner!

Yum I LOVE Earl of Sandwich!
Ahhhhh that vinyl table. I'm trying to convince Brian to build me one just like it. Because one day...I will have all of those vinyls...haha!

Haha, when Jason's cousin saw it she said, "that should be your dining room table!" I figure, if you're going to have all of these vinyls, why not display them in a useful way? :thumbsup2

Exactly! I need a better way to display them and also keep them safe. What better!! And Brian said he'd build one like it for me! Wahoo!! Now I need more vinyls! I hope I have lots of spending money in Disney...haha!

yum, yum, yum more food, more food pics!!! I love that you went to Earl. When we ate there we were hooked :) What ornament did you guys get from the Christmas store? Where's Arabian nights? I have never heard of that before is it just a stunt show, what all do they do there?

Yes, Earl is so good! Can't wait to go back! And we didn't actually get an ornament this time... I was mostly making a mental list for when we come back, after we get some spending money from the wedding! ;) Arabian Nights is somewhere in Downtown Orlando, it's basically a "dinner show," kind of like a play but with long breaks in between of stunts and performances.

Ooohhh this looks like such a fun day! I LOVE that vinyl table. All of mine are lining up on the top of the kitchen pantry, and I am not allowed to buy anymore because they take up the entire space! :lmao: I've started to buy less though because you can buy a lot of them at the Disney Store and that makes them a little less special to me, you know? So I just collect the Park ones now. :)

AND I would have felt the same way as you did about Arabian Nights--- I LOVE horses--- I've never been a rider or anything, but my little girl bedroom back at my dad's house still has horse wallpaper on it!--- and I just wouldn't have been able to handle it.

Excited for more! And didn't you have your bridal shower too?!

Islands of Adventure!

We were looking forward to this day, particularly for Harry Potter world!

P1040529.jpg

I had just been to see the HP world last year, and I'm going back in two months, but even though nothing's changed it's still beautiful and moving. There is nothing like that glimpse of Hogwarts castle:

P1040536.jpg

The first thing we decided to do was go on the ride in the castle, the Forbidden Journey. We had tried to arrive early so we could get on line, but with a group of 12 it's impossible to get out the door on time. So we arrived at Universal at around 8:30, and got to HP at 8:45 - and the sign said there was already a 90 minute wait. We decided we might as well wait it out.

Now, the line for this ride is a little confusing, especially if you have a bag and need a locker (otherwise it's pretty straight forward). I had my backpack, so we got in line and when we got to the front of the castle I had to go drop it in a locker. When I got out of the lockers there were people telling you where to do, and a woman pointed us in a direction and we got on line again. Well, we're walking through, and I'm thinking to myself, "I SWEAR I didn't see all of this last time!" And I knew that the beginning of the wait was outside, so I had a feeling something was wrong. But we wait on this line, and after about ten minutes we get to another worker. She asks us if we were waiting for the ride or the castle tour. We said the ride and she told us we were on the wrong line. Apparently we weren't the only ones that had been misdirected, there was a whole group of people in front of us and behind us that had been told the same thing. So at first I thought we'd have to go back to the front of the line. Well, I guess they felt bad about making us wait for the 15 minutes already and couldn't just get us to the same spot we would've been on the line, so they moved us right to the front for the ride and we literally walked right on. Waited about 15 minutes total. So due to someone's error we really lucked out with this wait! :cool1: The only negative was that we missed the little pre-show with Harry, Ron, and Hermione and the backstory. I'd seen it before so as we were loading I quickly summarized for Jason and his brother ;)

As for the ride itself, I find it quite scary! I'm pretty sure I would never go on this ride normally if it wasn't Harry Potter themed. The first time on I ended up with my eyes closed for most of it. I did better this time - I only closed my eyes for about half the time! Once we got to the spiders it was too scary for me! But I'm confident that when I go back this week I'll do even better! The technology and how this ride is done is really amazing though, extremely impressive.

We also rode the Dragon Challenge coaster, which had less of a wait. I like it a lot, but the others in my group complained that it was way too short. It is pretty short, but at least we didn't wait an hour so I don't really mind. We checked out Ollivander's and Dervish and Banges, and then it was time for butterbeer!

There's always a ridiculously long line at the butterbeer cart, so we used my trick I used last time - get it inside at the Hog's Head. There's a wait there too, but it's inside and usually a lot shorter.

P1040556.jpg

Jason and I raising our glasses of butterbeer:

P1040558.jpg

No one really wanted to ride the Hippogriff coaster (I did it last time and didn't really need to again), so we went to the Jurassic Park ride. I got on line with them (Jason's aunt, uncle, and grandfather decided to pass), but after about 10 minutes they made the announcement that "This ride contains an 85 foot drop into total darkness." I already hate anything scary to begin with, and dinosaurs are not my favorite, but I really hate the dark, so I decided to back it up and get off the line at this point. Maybe I could have handled it, but I get scared really easily and see no reason to put myself through it on a day I want to have fun! As it turns out, the ride got stopped for about 20 minutes... and it was while they were on it! Luckily they were in stegosaurus land, where it isn't as scary as some of the rest. But it took a long time for them to exit the ride since it was delayed, so I waited quite awhile. Here's a pic I got of them after they came down the drop!

P1040569.jpg

Because they had to wait, they each got a one time use "fast pass" or whatever you call it at Universal, that they could use for almost any other ride. This became important later on...

Then it was time for lunch. We always just went to nearest place, which today was right next to the Jurassic Park ride:

P1040570.jpg

Jason got the turkey leg, as did his cousin Linda. They both liked it. Jason loves turkey legs like that, though Linda said there was way too much food there for her to eat. They both said the corn wasn't that great. Jason said it was dry and almost tasteless.

P1040572.jpg

I went for the bacon cheeseburger. Not really my usual choice, but nothing else was really appealing to me. This was actually quite tasty, if nothing all that special. The fries were good too.

P1040573.jpg

Liz, also at our table, had the rotisserie chicken. She enjoyed this. It looks pretty much like the same meal I got at the Three Broomsticks last year, which I remember as being decent. Same problem with the corn again:

P1040574.jpg

After lunch we journeyed through Toon Lagoon, where I stopped to get a picture with Betty Boop! No one else was really into meeting the characters anywhere, so this is the only character pic I got this trip, not even any in Disney :sad2:

P1040586.jpg

There were two more rides we really wanted to try: The Hulk coaster and the Spiderman Ride. We passed by Spiderman, saw the 85 minute wait, and decided to see what the hulk had. It was about 30 minutes, and not too bad. The wait actually went really quickly because they had TV screens everywhere showing clips from the hulk cartoon. That ride itself is so much fun. It's a really great roller coaster, one of the best I've been on, and it lasts for a long time.

P1040589.jpg

We went back to Spiderman and they decided to ride it using their express pass they got from Jurassic park. Now if you recall, I was not on this ride and so I did not have one of these passes. However, Jason's dad offered to give me his, and though we tried to argue with him he insisted. He claimed he wasn't that interested in the spiderman ride anyway. So we got on the express lane. Let me tell you, we were on that ride in 5 minutes. Amazing. The ride itself was okay. It's 3D, and they really go for all of that "in your face" stuff, which isn't my favorite. And I think Harry Potter, which is similar in style, is more well done. Though the 3D in spiderman definitely made it more scary than I was expecting.

P1040588.jpg

Afterward the others decided to ride Dr. Doom's FearFall, but I hate those sorts of rides so I stayed with Jason's aunt. We decided to go in a gift shop, and just as we were stepping inside it started to rain. Well, it turned into a complete down pour. I know that happens a lot in Orlando, and we waited for it to pass, but it was a long one... it lasted almost 2 hours, and there was really nothing to do but sit or stand in the shop. Luckily the queue for fearfall was inside, so the others were dry. After the rain finally stopped and they eventually got on Fearfall, we headed back to HP to visit Honeydukes and then we decided to go home. Universal is really not as appealing to me as Disney (except for Harry Potter), so I didn't mind that we hadn't done all that there was to do.

Our next (and last) day was at Hollywood Studios! Yay Disney!

Harry Potter! Eeeeeek! I really can't wait to go and your picture of the castle makes me want to go even more. :rotfl:

What was Ollivanders like? I want a wand - actually I need a wand.

I want to do Forbidden Journey but I'm afraid I'll chicken out.

What does butterbeer taste like?? :drinking1

Nice pic with Betty, I missed her last time.

Looks like you had a great time at Islands of Adventure, look forward to your next update x

Ooohhh Harry Potter World! I really want to go there just for the Butterbeer... that looks SO tasty! Chris gets a little annoyed with me because he's wanted to go back to Universal for ages (he went when he was 14), but I refuse to leave Disney property! :lmao:

I didn't know you collected vinyls too!! I think the park series are very cool, I bought a few when I was down there and plan to buy more when I go back! By the way, are you on facebook? If you are, PM me, because we need to be friends ;)

And yes, I did have my bridal shower! I was hoping to finish this TR and post that before I left for my Harry Potter convention, but since I'm leaving on Tuesday it seems that I will have to save the bridal shower for when I get back! We'll see...

Hehe, I know the feeling. If it wasn't for HP I don't really think Universal would be worth it. It's just not my thing... too many rides that try to scare you, and I don't like that!

Harry Potter! Eeeeeek! I really can't wait to go and your picture of the castle makes me want to go even more. :rotfl:

Ollivander's is cool! There's a pre-show that is very similar to what happens when Harry visits in the movie. They pick a volunteer to "get" a wand, and they try out some and different things happen around the room. It's cute, but it's only about 5 minutes and the wait is usually crazy for it, I've never seen a wait shorter than about an hour, but then again I was always there in the busy season. I'm glad I did it once but probably wouldn't again. But you can get into the section of the store that sells wands by going through Dervish and Banges, the two shops are connected! Definitely get a wand, they are very cool!

And definitely try Forbidden Journey if you go. I'm scared of absolutely everything. This was me on Stitch's Great Escape, if that tells you anything: :scared1: But if you get scared during HP you can just close your eyes and it's fine. You can tell by what they are saying when you are in a scary part and when you are just in a cool part, like Quidditch. Turns out that at one point you go through the Chamber of Secrets where the basilisk is and I had no idea because my eyes were closed! Didn't even know that part was in the ride! :rotfl2:

Butterbeer is so good! To me it tastes like a mix of cream soda and butterscotch, and the foam they put on top is quite tasty.

Hollywood Studios!

This was our last day in Orlando before we drove home. I was excited and trying not to be nervous and annoyed at this point, just because my vacation style differed from some members of the family :rotfl: I'm more of a "go go go" person, wanting to get there as soon as they open and do as much as I can, and some people were much more relaxed than I was. They also just didn't understand how long these lines can get. But we arrived that morning and it was so exciting to actually be in a Disney park!!

P1040604.jpg

First stop was Toy Story Mania, since I knew it could get super crowded. I suggested getting a fast pass and then getting on line, so we could ride again if we wanted, but the family didn't like that idea. :confused3 So we just got on the line, which was already a 60 minute wait. But the 60 minutes went quick enough, what with the exciting queue and the "entertainment" from Mr. Potato Head.

Here I am with Jason's cousin Linda, who I asked to be my replacement bridesmaid during this trip:

P1040608.jpg

And here's the most exciting part of the Toy Story queue:

P1040616.jpg

The ride itself was a lot of fun, but my arm got tired after awhile from all that shooting! Jason said he actually preferred Buzz's Spaceranger Spin better, since that was "real" and not on a screen. I get what he's saying, but found it was easier for me to do better at the games in TSM.

After that we went to check out the other two major rides, Rockin Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. We decided we would see both wait times and then get a fast pass for the longer one. RR was 85 minutes and ToT was 55, so we got the FP for RR. I will not do Tower of Terror, but everyone else in his family wanted to, so I said I would explore on my own and meet them back in an hour. I headed into a few shops, and passed by the Beauty and the Beast theatre. Well, it was about 11:20 and they had an 11:30 show, so I decided to head on in! It wasn't full but pretty crowded, but since I was by myself I easily got an aisle seat toward the back and had a great view. This is one of my favorite Disney movies so I love this little show:

P1040644.jpg

Afterward I headed back to ToT and met them exactly when they were coming off the ride! Great timing. At that point Liz decided she wanted to audition for American Idol, so some of them were heading that way. Jason and his brothers didn't want to just hang around and wait, so I recommended the Great Movie Ride in the nearby area. I was going to go with them and then at the last minute I decided, "What the heck, I want to audition for American Idol too!" I have a background in musical theatre and while I know my singing talent isn't stellar enough to actually make a career out of it or anything, I thought it was decent enough that I wouldn't embarrass myself!

The process is pretty easy, and painless. It was actually a pretty good ego booster! ;) Liz and I went in together, since she was 15 and needed someone older than 18 with her. The girl that went into the room before us actually got through to the next round, so it was cool to see that. We each sang a capella, any song you wanted, for a "judge." This is definitely Disney style and not Simon Cowell, since they had all nice things to say. In fact, he started off by telling me that he's the nicest cast member in all of Disney World! He said I have a really good voice, I'm on pitch, and basically said that if I had come earlier in the day I probably would have gotten through. Don't know if they just say that to everyone though. :rolleyes1 But one cool thing was that he told me I have a very good voice for country music - I didn't sing a country song but I'm a huge country fan, so the fact that he said that made me happy!

We did get buttons for auditioning, and throughout the day people commented on them and asked how it went. Overall it was fun and I'm really glad I tried it!

P1040649.jpg

We all met up again for lunch, which we grabbed at the ABC Commissary. They had some pretty good food here. I got the Asian Salad:

P1040656.jpg

The taste of this was absolutely delicious. My only criticism would be that it just needed something more. Maybe the option to add grilled chicken, or even some mandarin oranges would have made it a bit more filling and added to the flavor.

Here are some shots of the various other dishes that we had:

P1040652.jpg

P1040653.jpg

P1040654.jpg

P1040655.jpg

I remember hearing that the curry wasn't great, but better than expected (Jason's brother didn't really expect much from a grab and go place), and that the burger had some sort of sauce on it that both of the girls really didn't care for. I think the fish and chips were good.

Next up was Star Tours. Here's another silly Jason picture:

P1040658.jpg

The new version of this ride was absolutely awesome. The 3D really adds a lot, but in a "natural" sort of way, not an in your face way. This may have been my favorite ride of the day. I can't wait to try it again when we go back and see if we get a different scenario!

It also started to pour rain while we were outside. Most of the outside area was covered by a roof thing, but some of the edges weren't. So people would wait until the line moved up so they could run through the rain parts and get under shelter again, but the CMs came over and were really nasty about that. I do understand that they need to keep the line moving for people joining at the end, but there is a nice way to do it! Luckily when we exited the ride the rain had just about stopped! So we missed most of it.

Then it was time to redeem our FP for RRC. This was fun and intense, as always. The last thing we did was Lights, Motors, Action.

P1040670.jpg

The show itself was a lot of fun! Believer it or not, the one thing that bothered me was that the fans were on super high in the stadium, and I was cold for most of it! Like shivering cold. I guess it didn't help that we were a bit wet from the rain and the sun hadn't been out all day, but I definitely didn't expect to be cold at an outdoor show in Orlando in June.

Before we left we hit up a few gift shop quickly. I bought some more vinylmations and found this awesome thing:

P1040684.jpg

So cute!

And that was our last day. And now that I've been home for a week it's time for me to head back to Orlando for the Harry Potter convention! When I come back I'll have a lot of wedding stuff to update on. In fact, I'm going to list it here so I don't forget:

* Bridal Shower
* Flowers
* Photography Location
* Cake flavor choice
* Centerpieces!

Ahhh!! SO jealous you get to go to Universal again!! Not to mention for the HP Convention!!!! :lovestruc

Are you planning on seeing the movie down there!?

Drink a butter beer for me!!! :goodvibes

Can't wait to hear your list and see everything else you have planned!!

Travel safe!! :)

Ooffff, I can't imagine touring DHS with my family. They would drive me absolutely BONKERS! (Although, I am going to take my dad to Epcot and maybe DHS the day before my wedding... I'm slightly interested to see how that goes...)

And gah! I am so jealous of you and all of your travels--- well, more happy for you than jealous, but still SLIGHTLY jealous! I hope the HP convention is amazing, because that sounds amazing. And I hope you dress up!

And I'll be PMing you :)

Bridal Shower!

I'm back from my Harry Potter conference and ready to update A LOT! So I had my bridal shower on July 3rd. It was held at my parents' house, so I had to get out of the house until about 1 o'clock. Jason was with me, so we went to see Cars 2 that morning. It was a very enjoyable movie, but so expensive... for the two of us it was $26, and that's an 11 am movie on a Sunday morning! If it wasn't for the fact that I had to be out of the house at that time anyway, I would've just waited until the DVD came out and then bought it for that price.

So I came in around 1:30 and a good amount of family and friends were there. It was decorated nicely, there was some good food, and good cake. Overall it was a really wonderful day and I was so touched by how loved I felt!

One of the coolest "decorations" was these wordles that my sister made. If you're not familiar with a wordle, here's how it works. You ask everyone to give you a few words that describe what you're talking about (in this case, she asked all of my friends and family "give me a few words that you feel describe Becky"). Then there's a website where you enter all of the words and it displays it in a graphic - and the words that were said most often are the biggest ones, whereas words that were only mentioned by one person are a lot smaller. So it's a really neat way to see how people describe you!

They had organized a few games - they was a newlywed style game show (but G-rated!), which worked well because Jason was there. I think we did pretty well, though apparently we have some differing opinions about where our first kiss took place! :lmao: There was also two Disney trivia contests - one on song lyrics, one on Disney world attractions... yeah, I dominated both :rotfl:

Here's my bridesmaids running the games:

Then it was opening presents - my family and friends are so generous and wonderful!

Got a lot of kitchen stuff, including all of the plates and whatnot that we asked for. Here are my plates/bowls/cups:

One of my friends also got me the cutest little figurine of Mickey and Minnie that says and they lived Happily Ever After on it. I don't have a great picture of that, but here's me opening it:

Another really awesome present was a blanket that my Grandmother made. Just take a look at it, it's so sweet and meaningful:

Dinner was grilled steak and chicken cooked by my dad, and there was a yummy cake as well.
