Because We're Insane: Driving & Triple Split Stay! Updated 10/23. Pg.16

Great update!

I love shopping at DTD! My DD18 always spends a great deal of time in Tren D and on our last trip that's where her and my sister bought my Princess Dooney that I love!

I just found your TR and I'm loving it so far! You passed right by my house on your drive down. We live just a few miles from 81 before you get on 66 in Virginia. We'll be leaving for our 6th trip on Aug. 1st. We've driven down for the past few trips and actually really enjoy the drive. While we usually take the 66/17/95 route, this year we're doing the 81/77/95 route. We'll stop overnight near Savannah and then get into Disney early afternoon on the 2nd.

Looking forward to more updates.

Thanks! Yes - they have such cute stuff in there! Last year they had tons of vintage-looking tees, but not so much this time. I'm sure it totally fluctuates all the time. But this is totally a must-do shop for me!

Oh wow - yes, we totally went past you!

Glad to have you along for the TR! :)

subbing, loving it so far and can't wait for more!

your stay awake cocktail sounds great...we drive from MD every year and i'm def going to try it this december :thumbsup2 stupid question alert lol, do you mix it all together or drink them seperate?

Oh wow, your lunch at Olivia's looks fantastic! :yay: Must eat there, I have heard nothing but great stuff about it.

Such great shots of the pool, it looks fabulous...just trying to put a happy spin to the "code brown"

Thanks so much!

As far as my cocktail - definitely drink separate! I suggest drinking the Red Bull, then doing the Energy Shot, then having the Coke to leisurely enjoy the rest of the time.

Yes - Olivia's is great!

On another positive note on the code brown - we fortunately saw no evidence of it, so that was good. I don't think I could have ever gone in the pool if I was witness to it in person. :scared1:

Hello dear readers! This will be my last update for over a week..... I'm going to Europe! Doing a Danube River cruise and visiting Germany, Austria, and Hungary. Alas, I will not have much computer access, so there will be a temporary pause on the updates.

All the more reason I wanted to get one more update in before I leave tomorrow. Because, even though I'm on my way to Europe, Disney is never off my mind!

So on the last update, I was wondering when the heck our room was gonna be ready!

I also realized on this day that I forgot my awesome walking sandals that I had planned to wear pretty much almost every day! D'oh! How did I forget something so important!?!?!??! Oh yeah - and I also forgot my good make-up brushes. Ugh! My good ones from back when I used to work at Origins years ago doing make-up and skin care. Those brushes are amazing. And they sat at home. Fortunately, I still had some crappy brushes in my make-up bag. But not good news for someone who gets super cranky in the heat. (Which on this trip was every day - so there was always an underlying thread of crankiness lying beneath my surface at all times. Sounds like fun, huh?) *winky emoticon*

Anyway......

Finally when we had gotten half-way through the West Side, I got the text! Our room was ready! Oh happy day!!!! Is that the Hallelujah Chorus I hear playing at that DVC kiosk? Nope, that's just me making lame music jokes!
(I would expect such bad jokes from my husband the band director!)

We headed to the resort boat launch off of Pleasure Island and only had to wait about 10 minutes before we got on our way.

I took some pics along the way from the boat....

Once we got to OKW, we got our car and headed to our building.

We were assigned to room 2925.

I've included this handy dandy map of OKW for your viewing pleasure! (You can see building number 29 in the middle near the right.)

OKWMap.gif

It was about a 5 minute walk to the pool and main building, and we were on the 2nd floor of our building.

Here are some room pics.....

And our little balcony off the far side of the room. This was basically where we put on our sunscreen in the morning....

IMG_1521.jpg

The room was a very nice size.

It was time to get all my dresses out of the suitcase!

However........

the heat of the car had made all the garments that COULD wrinkle....... wrinkle. And bad too.

So yes, it was vacation, but I got out the iron.

You must understand that I iron at home maybe.... once every other year - or even longer! (I don't iron.)

This is how I felt about it....

IMG_1526.jpg

Since it took so long to get our room, we actually didn't have a ton of time to get ready for dinner. (Plus - I had to do all that darn ironing!) It was then that we decided we would just drive over to the Boardwalk for our dinner at Kouzzina. I was impressed that it was SO close. Now normally, I'm super against having to drive at Disney. I don't want to drive on my vacation! BUT - we wouldn't have to go through the whole long convoluted way of getting to dinner via the buses.

Here I am in my dinner outfit for Kouzzina!

IMG_1528.jpg

In no time flat, we were at the Boardwalk and walking up to Kouzzina. We got seated in about a minute. This would be our first meal now on the DDP, but with using TIW for our booze. But looking at the menu, we remembered how amazing the calamari was here, so we decided to order that too (using the TIW.)

For drinks, I got a Fruit mojito and Brian got a glass of wine.

IMG_1531.jpg

(Sorry - no wine pic.)

When our calamari came out, it was just as good as we remembered....

IMG_1532.jpg

Although this time is was served on a plate instead of the paper cone thing. (Ala the conch fritters at OKW.)

For dinner, Brian got the lamb shank...

IMG_1535.jpg

And I got the pork loin served with succatash (sp?), zucchini corn cake, and feta....

IMG_1536.jpg

It was all so yummy!

Then it was time for dessert! Brian probably got coffee, but I'm not a coffee drinker. I'm a Coke drinker. I freakin' love Coke. (Refer to my October trip report to see me hugging the giant Coke at DHS....)

mmmmmmm......... (Seriously, it's my only real addiction.)

IMG_1541.jpg

Brian got the baklava..

IMG_1538.jpg

And I got the Greek Yoghurt Sorbet...

IMG_1539.jpg

I find the Greek baklava to be a bit more dry than the kind I'm used to (at Morocco in Epcot ) The Greek kind is not my favorite. I liked the yoghurt sorbet, but it isn't one that I'd put on my favorite list.

After dinner, as we were leaving Boardwalk, it looked like the skies were getting a bit tumultuous....

IMG_1542.jpg

How would our late EMH be effected by this? Oh no! That EMH was the whole reason we had to get to Disney on Saturday - so we'd be rested for Sunday night EMH!

.....continued.......

Finally all caught up! I've had minimal access to internet over the week. Our family had rented a place at LBI for the past week and while we enjoyed the sun and the beach, I barely checked my email.
Anyways, seems like you had a good start of your vacation! I'm very glad that you two survived the drive to WDW and enjoying the different resorts. :goodvibes

Also, have a nice trip to Europe!!!

.....continued.....

Well, let's just say that we got some pixie dust!

The weather was going to be fine!

We got changed back at our room and we headed out to the bus to to go MK!!!

Although we learned an important lesson that we would follow the rest of our time at OKW.....

When we were leaving, we would walk to the hospitality house to get the bus. Every time!

Why?

Well, the bus stop closest to us (Peninsular Road stop) was the first stop. It was great for when we were coming home from any park. BUT - and it's a big but - if we waited there, we'd have to wait longer for a bus.

You see, we walked to the bus stop and waited for an MK bus. But we must have just missed one. So when the MK bus went past us in the opposite direction, we realized that we could have been on that bus! How - well, we had already been waiting at the bus stop for over ten minutes. By walking to the hospitality house (the last stop on the way out of the resort), we'd have been there to catch this bus to MK instead of waiting for the next one. Live and learn!

It took awhile yet to wait for the next bus. Then we had to ride it as it went through all the sections of OKW. It was dark outside, but our bus driver left the inside lights on. So I couldn't see outside. Which meant my motion sickness started to kick in a little.

Fortunately, he turned out the lights for the actual drive on the regular roads outside our resort, and my motion sickness wasn't as bad as it could have been. Being able to see outside made me all better within minutes. :-)

We got to MK just before 10pm.

As you can tell from where this picture takes place, we had a quick potty break just inside the park, then it was off for some EMH fuN!!!!!!

IMG_1545.jpg

Wishes was just starting, so we cut through the Emporium gift shops to get through to the path to Adventureland. As we walked past the Crystal Palace (that section between Casey's and the walkway to enter Adventureland) we noticed a weird set up that we had never noticed before. The CM's had set up a "road" so to speak along the pathway - standing about 4 feet apart and keeping traffic moving on either side of them. Kind of like the middle line in a road. Only the middle line is telling you to keep on moving, keep on moving - with glow stick things.

Anyway, we decided to do Jungle Cruise first.

IMG_1546.jpg

The CM wasn't nearly as good as the one we had on the October trip. (He was SO good with the campy comic timing.) This one was kind of off. So no names will be mentioned.

Next up - you guessed it - Pirates!!! We walked right on!

After that, we went to find a place to stand for MSEP. We caught the tail end of the new castle pic display thing. It was really cool!

We had to set up the video camera once we found our spot, as MSEP was on my Top 10 list video. We filmed my little blurb talking about the parade and once it started, Brian filmed footage of the actual parade itself. The lighting was a bit of an issue when filming the blurb of me talking about the parade. But we don't have the equipment that an actual television show has, so it would do.

The parade was amazing as always!

IMG_1561.jpg

IMG_1566.jpg

(Man, I can't even imagine how tiny the girl is who has to play Pinocchio. Her legs are SO skinny!)

IMG_1571.jpg

IMG_1573.jpg

(Can you see how the Walt and Mickey statue are silhouetted by the parade float? Love it!)

Then after that, it was time to get our Space Mt. FP's. We then went on the People Mover (loved it as a kid) and as we were on it, I got the great idea to film my blurb about MK EMH while we were on the actual People Mover. (MK EMH is also on my Top 10.)

Pics from the People Mover....

IMG_1578.jpg

IMG_1579.jpg

After that, it was over to Fantasyland. I wanted to get video of the Cinderella fountain all lit up at night..... but it wasn't lit!!!! What the heck?! I have to admit - I was pretty bummed out about that. I figured I'd just have to use some of my pics from past trips and insert them into that portion of the video.

Next we decided to ride Snow White. We knew this was our last trip to do so, so we made it count! (We rode Snow White a LOT on this trip....)

IMG_1589.jpg

IMG_1594.jpg

Then I had Brian try to pull the sword out! Not a good face honey....

IMG_1595.jpg

He looks...... uncomfortable.

Back shot of the castle - so pretty!

IMG_1597.jpg

Next up - the Haunted Mansion!

We were psyched to go through the new interactive queue!

It did not disappoint!

You could pose with some of the spirit personalities, there was a wall that made different sounds depending on which instrument carving you touched, and all kinds of fun stuff....

IMG_1598.jpg

(I didn't quite nail the eyebrows...)

IMG_1601.jpg

IMG_1602.jpg

IMG_1604.jpg

IMG_1605.jpg

And the new ending with the hitchhiking ghosts is fabulous! Double thumbs up!!!!

It was time to leave the Haunted Mansion....

IMG_1606.jpg

and head to Big Thunder!

BTMRR was a short wait and super fun, of course.

After that, it was time for some cooling refreshment....

..... the kind that involves a walk through Adventureland......

You know what I'm talking about......

IMG_1608.jpg

DOLE WHIP FLOAT!!!! Oh yeah!

We partook of our pineapplely goodness as we made our way to Tomorrowland again to use those Space FP's.

IMG_1583.jpg

We not only rode once, but got to ride again with no wait! This is why sticking it out to the wee hours of the morning definitely pay off!

IMG_1609.jpg

IMG_1611.jpg

At this point, it was just past 2am, and MK was closing.

Time to go get some rest!

Good night MK! See you again real soon!

What to expect next? Why, you'll just have to stay tuned and read my next update when I get back to the USA!

See you then!

Thanks so much! The ride down wasn't horrible. Really bad. But not horrible.

I've been reading along as well! I can't wait to go down and see the new Haunted Mansion queue, it looks really fun.

Where all are you going in Europe?

Hope that you have a wonderful and safe trip :goodvibes

Your update now has me very much wanting to do a MK EMH night and that was not in the original plans...hmmm I don't think DBF would object too much though :rotfl:

I can't wait to check out the parade this year, the last couple years I have skipped fireworks/parades due to the people I was with wanting to skip them

Jen - have a wonderful time in Europe! Take lots of pictures!

I can't wait to see your latest pictures. I can't wait to see OKW, but it will have to wait for tonight. BOO!

Aufwiedersehen alle!

See you all with more updates in a little over a week!

Have a fantastic time, Jen! Can't wait to hear all about it -- after you finish *this* TR, that is ;)

We haven't tried Kouzzina yet. I'm still mourning the death of Spoodles! I loved your outfit for dinner.

We're going to try MK EMH in the evening on this trip for the first time. I have 10 year old twins, who are excited at the prospect of staying up until 2:00 in the morning. We'll see how it goes. I made sure that the next morning is a break for us, as I'm sure we'll all need it.

Have a great trip to Europe!

Love the pic of the castle you got. I haven't been to WDW YET (see ticker!!), but I'm a DLR AP vet, and I'm still struck how different some of the things are. So excited to read the rest.

Enjoy your trip to Europe!!

I'm glad you enjoyed your meal at Kouzzina, we've always liked it there. 2 am EMH at MK looks like fun, I love how pretty the castle is all lit up at night!

Great updates! We loved Kouzzina when we had breakfast there in September...unfortunately I have a picky eater for a daughter and I'm not sure if she would enjoy it for dinenr:confused3 I really want to try it though!

MK....EMH....love it! There is something about the MK at night that I love!

I officially love the OKW studio. I think it is going to be perfect for Denny, Nick, and I. It looks very spacious and Nick will be happy to have a bed instead of a pull-out. I like the color scheme, too. Thanks for posting those room pix.

Yummy dinner and great and funny MK pix. Hurry back!
