Beaver tails?

When I asked my DH what his most missed item from all of DW was, he said beaver tails :lovestruc I loved them, too.

Thanks for posting the photos! I don't recognize the top pic but I would definitely call the "Beaver Tail" an Elephant Ear (except my Elephant Ear would be round). Mystery solved! :)

I'm with you h200phelia!.....Around these parts we call them Elephant Ears. All the local, county, and state fairs sell them. Cinnammon sugar is the standard, but I have also seen Elephant Ears sold with fruit toppings or chocolate sauce.

Beavertails was losing money on the WDW location from what I understand....
I find that hard to believe with what they were charging. Unless the franchise fee was ridiculously high they sure did have a whole lot of other costs. The shed where they sold the was very small and not fancy, they only had two employees working at a time and the required ingredients are nothing special. Maybe it's the same thing as Pleasure Island in that the profits were just not enough for Disney.
Can anyone tell me if Beaver Tails are the same as Elephant Ears??

I've never heard of a Beaver Tail....but after looking at the recipe, it looks similar to what we call Elephant Ears. Perhaps the name difference is a regional thing??
I've had both and they are quite similar but not exactly the same. The Beavertails are a little denser and shaped differently. They also have more toppings available than Elephant Ears are usually available with. I'm sure if you like one you will like the other.

Unfortunately Disney bowed to pressure from PETA about their complaint of the multilation of beavers to be able to sell the tails.

My brother loves stories of people asking him if it hurts the beavers when they cut them off, if they're meaty, if the beavers grow them back, etc. Seriously, he's been asked these questions and more.

I don't know the details of the contract but the way the contract worked, Beavertails lost money on the booth. You're welcome to believe it or not; I just know what I was told by my brother who has been with the company for MANY years, long before they were even at Epcot.

They are very very similar. I grew up in Ohio and lived for the elephant ears and sugar waffles from the fair each summer. When we moved to Montreal we did not know about Beaver Tails at first and when I ate it I totally had a flashback to eating the elephant ears.

The only difference I can think of is that you can get Beaver Tails with all sorts of toppings, including chocolate and reese's pieces and I only remember the elephant ears having cinnamon and sugar (the way we eat the Beaver Tails).

Beavertails have become more scarce even in Ottawa. There used to be multiple locations (Stl. Laurent shopping centre was very convenient for a quick fix - especially in winter). Now there is only the market location with the outdoor seating (with the exception of the temporary shacks for skating season).
