Does anyone know if these wonderful treats have returned to Canada.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, no. The company that made the dough went out of business or something I think, so they couldn't get the stuff anymore to make them. I just can't imagine it being that difficult, but I heard that was why.

I miss them, they were so yummy!

Everytime we walk by Canada I have to look, but alas no yummy Bever Tails.

I can't imagine with all the pastry chefs Disney employs that they can't come up with a bread recipe to make these.

Snif. Oh, how I miss them... They were arguably my favorite WDW treat. And if WDW's so averse to bringing Trapper Bob's back, couldn't they at least get a Tim Horton's Donuts stand to take its place???
Cheers,

Beaver Tails were fantastic! I can remember one time three four years ago that our family was in MGM, and we made a special trip to Epcot just for Beavertails. We got our 'Tails and took the boat back to MGM. Mmmm--maple sugar and chocolate............

darn I was hoping I could eat an actual beaver tail... I was thinking oooo that sounds exotic :rotfl2:

A beaver tail is basically a fried dough with your choice of toppings. I can't remember what the choices were. If you have elephant ears at the county fairs where you live, then that's pretty much it.

Mmmmmmm. Fried bread, is there anything better! I'm sorry I asked. Maybe by the time I get back to DW, they will have made a come-back!

I loved them too. If you want something similar, try the churro at Costco. It only costs a dollar and has the whole "fresh hot doughnut" thing going for it. I know it doesn't really compare to the maple beaver tail, but . . .

The real reason was political correctness. There had been complaints from PETA about mistreatment and mutilation of beavers.

We make them at home by frying pillsbury crescent dough in oil and then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Mmmmmmmm.... fried dough.

And all this time I thought it was because of the sexual innuendo! :lmao: :lmao:

Uh, no, the parent company that makes BeaverTails is still in business. It's a thriving business with multiple year-round *and* seasonal locations in Ottawa*, and a few other shops around the globe.
*The seasonal locations include kiosks *on* the Rideau canal; when the canal is frozen, it's the longest skating rink in the world :-)
BeaverTails are yummy, but they're not quite the same when eaten in the sweltering heat and humidity -- they are best eaten IMO, when it's cold outside and they can warm up your hands while you take a break from skating (or just wandering downtown on a cold day). Then again, I spent 9+ years living in Ottawa on and off, so I'm probably biased.

The following is an excerpt from MousePlanet:
Beaver tail saga continues
After we noted in last week's Update that beaver tails were no longer being sold at Trapper Bob's at Epcot's Canada pavilion, we received some interesting mail. Reader Sean Rouse noted that he had contacted the supplier of the beaver tails pastries, and received a response that they were surprised to hear the news and were trying to find out if it was in fact true. We have not yet received an update from Sean as to the latest word from BeaverTails.

At the same time, we also heard from a former Canada pavilion cast member, who has started a campaign to bring the pastries back to Trapper Bob's. He states that the food & beverage management of the pavilion "switched to a reheated product in 2000 and sales started falling. After 9/11 they began shutting the booth during the day. Now they've stopped BeaverTail sales entirely do to 'poor sales'... hmmmm." He is asking people to phone, write or fax Disney, and to sign his online petition (link).

We'll keep you updated as we hear more about this pastry war.

Also, like another poster said, the company still exists. The site is:

www.beavertailsinc.com

I have emailed them to see if they have anything that you can order and make at home. I figure it's worth a shot!
:teeth:

They were my favorite! You should have seen me the first year I returned, and was looking around the Canadian pavilion like a pig hunting for truffles for 45 minutes trying to find the nonexistant Beaver Tail Kiosk with the sad look of complete incomprehension on my face.

I'd love to see them come back. A Scottish Highlands (hot chocolate with butterscotch schnapps and irish cream) from UK and a Beaver Tail is the BEST snack ever on a cool December night in Epcot!
