Beaver Tail - where can we buy one ?

:rotfl2: An elephant ear or a beaver tail is a round fried piece of dough that puffs up a bit when fried. After cooking they sprinkle it with powdered sugar or cinnamon/sugar or some places will put chocolate syrup or cherries or apples simular to the toppings you get for funnel cakes.

We can buy these at the local Publix grocery store, they are more rounded and called flying saucers, they are not quite as good as the ones we could get from a former local bakery and they were called elephant ears.

I have never seen an elephant ear that looked like that, but that sure does look good.

It's not the tail of an actual beaver. It looked like one (vaguely) but was akin to a funnel cake or crepe. It came in different flavors like cinnamon sugar, strawberry sauce (?), chocolate soemthing or other, etc. In other words, it's was fried pastry goodness.

I knew the reference wasn't to an actual beaver tail, but I had to google it to find out it was a pastry :lmao:

What do you do with the rest of the elephant?

I once had a large task ahead of me and my Dad said to me "how do you eat an elephant?" I just looked at him and he said "one bite at a time"...lol. I got what he was saying but hadn't heard that saying before:rotfl:

Oh, well, for cryin' out loud. (Shakes fist at everyone's misleading comments from previously in the thread. LOL.)

Though come to think of it, fried dough does kind of look like a beaver's tail. And around here we've got Bearclaws (giant honey buns). Then again, the Lobster Tail is exactly that, so you can understand my confusion/curiosity.

We call them Wales Tails here on the west coast... now I need to go to the fair to get one... :cloud9: I love it with pizza sauce and Parmesan cheese yumm
