An elephant ear or a beaver tail is a round fried piece of dough that puffs up a bit when fried. After cooking they sprinkle it with powdered sugar or cinnamon/sugar or some places will put chocolate syrup or cherries or apples simular to the toppings you get for funnel cakes.

We can buy these at the local Publix grocery store, they are more rounded and called flying saucers, they are not quite as good as the ones we could get from a former local bakery and they were called elephant ears.

I have never seen an elephant ear that looked like that, but that sure does look good.
