Hi all,

I got back a couple of weeks ago now, but while visiting we saw the Beauty & The Beast show at the studios.

We have never seen it before on any of our other visits we just have not been there at the right time or we have had fast passes or something else came up even though it has always been on out 'must do' list.

Anyway, what an utter disapointment, why on earth take away the brilliant Hunchback show and keep this poor thing? I guess that it is more popular possibly because the film was more popular? We were all so saddened by the show, it seemed virtually all mimed (or was it just my eyes not in sync?) and so badly put together. We were somehow not quite convinced by the 'magical' tranformation from human to beast by using a magical cape, the terrible narration: 'Belle (for some reason that we are not going to tell you) finds herself in an enchanted castle (and missing a father)', the woeful dance routine aka 'filling in while Belle changes into the gold dress' etc.

This really was the poorest Disney show I have ever seen. Please forgive me if this is one of your favorites, better still convince me I am wrong and I missed something!

Paul.

We like the show and the dancing, costumes etc. My kids were bored at the Hunchback show

I'm with you Worf. We like BatB just fine, but we don't feel the need to go see it over and over. The Hunchback show was just so creatively staged and well performed that we made sure to see it every single trip at least once. DH didn't even LIKE the movie and he loved the stage show. It's especially sad to see that the theater is still just being used for storage and the one wall is now the San Francisco street facade. You walk right by it going back to the new stunt show. :(

I agree, we weren't too impressed with BatB. We saw it once, but don't really feel the need to see it again. Hunchback was a MUCH better show...I was so sorry to see it go.

Wow... I guess I missed something at the Hunchback show. I know I had seen it at least once, but to be honest... I can't even remember the show now. On the other hand, BatB is my absolute favorite attraction of the entire resort. I love the songs and beautiful costumes and honestly, the entire production.
To be honest... my guess is that it had more to do with location. BatB is towards the front of the park right next to ToT - on the other hand... Hunchback was towards the back of the park where it doesn't seem like it's ever quite as packed as the front area. It could have been that more people attended the BatB show as compared to Hunchback.

I love the show. It gives me goosebumps.

The two main characters are signing live, the 'dancers' are miming. There are several different leads, some better than others.

I love the costumes and the songs and the staging..for me, it is good theatre.

ong ago gave up trying to convince someone their perceptions were faulty...you are entitled to your opinion just as much as I am mine. Did you like the movie?

Sorry you didn't like it. We loved it. We have seen it both times we have gone to Disney and will see it again during our upcoming trip. My DD had a blast dancing and singing with it. We also really enjoyed the guys in the beginning, I can't think of their name but their harmonies were terrific!

BaTB didn't do much for me, but my little girls really liked it. If not for them I wouldn't go see it again. The Hunchback on the other hand was awesome and I can't understand why they took it away!! :confused3

I love it for the music and the ending. Too bad they don't have the doves anymore.

We liked both the movie Beauty and the Beast and the show at MGM. We very much disliked the movie Hunchback and never bothered to see it at WDW.

Different strokes....

So sorry you didnt like the show-we love it and never miss it!! On that note, we didnt care for the Hunchback show and were quite happy when it was replaced.

That Hunchback show was terrific. As for why they replaced it with Belle & co., BATB is one of the biggest Disney movies of all time, the Hunchback movie was not so successful. Naturally when BATB fans come to WDW they want to see something representative of their favorite Disney movie. As much as I liked that Hunchback show, I understand the change to BATB. :earsboy:

Of course I *loved* the film Colorado Belle, who doesn't or couldn't. Yes it was obvious that the two leads were singing live and quite well too.

Thinking again about it maybe the theatre was partly to blame, being so big and 'generic' looking it lacked the atmosphere that hunchback had. If it were themed to the show I have no doubt it would feel a lot more more intimate and immersive.

The four guys at the beginning were excellent, but they looked a little out of place in shorts and T-shirts for some reason though!

Very odd how we are so split on the subject it seems to be Beauty vs Hunchback!

I've never really care for BaTB since the first time I saw it. I am however a huge fan of the movie. The show just doesn't do much for me. I watched it again a few years ago when my entire extended family went down and was still not impressed.
I did love Hunchback. I think it was because it was a much smaller stage and you could be closer to the action. Perhaps that's the reason why I don't like BaTB.

::MickeyMo Sorry you didn't like BatB. We love it. Especially the acapella group in the beginning. I don't know about the miming thing though. Whenever we've seen it, they were always really singing. We know that for sure because we've saw it a couple of different times on the trip and we saw different Belle's and Gaston's. They each had their own voices. It's a show we really enjoy. ::MinnieMo

BatB did not replace Hunchback.

I love the Beauty and the Beast show it brings tears to my eyes everytime when she thinks he died (I know I'm a sap). I have to admit I have never gone to the Hunchback show all the times that my family was there. I think in part because we really didn't care for the movie, so we thought why go see the show. Now I wish I had the chance to see it, so I could see what i was missing.

If you really want to see something, try to catch the Beauty and the Beast Broadway show! I've seen it 3 times, it is awesome!!!!!

That being said, the show at MGM definitely isn't the same as the Broadway show, but we still love it. Last time we were there we saw it twice. There is no way they could do the whole BatB production there, but I think they get all the good parts in and most people know the story, so they aren't wondering how Belle wound up in the Beast's castle. Be Our Guest is my favorite part and also the singing. Anytime I've seen it, they are were always singing live.
