'Beauty and the Beast'-Inspired Red Rose Taverne

O my goodness! I really hope they keep this around for a while. My trip is at the end of April and would love to try a few of these!
Really, they should consider having it as a permanent fixture if its as good as it sounds. I've never really been a fan of Village Haus.

While I really like the food at Village Haus (especially that pretzel kraut sausage dog), this sounds like a place we'll need to hit. I'm just concerned about GF options for the wife. Maybe they can put one of those sandwiches on a GF bun. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Wow! I am going to be all over that cauliflower sandwich. It looks AMAZING! Ugh, now I'm hungry...

I am so excited to see this place. My husband was stoked to try the kraut (because it's new since we last went..I haven't broken the news) but he'll be happy with poutine. Some of those things seem a bit fancier and I wondered how $$ they are.

I'm not a vegetarian but I do love my veggies and I'm tempted to make that veggie sandwich MINE. :)

I bet they can do a burger or sandwich on a GF bun as they do at other burger places. I was thinking about the same thing as my mom is GF, but she would probably like that cauliflower sandwich too.

It's open. The allergy menu for wheat says GF bun or "The Beast" can be GF. Eating the cauliflower sandwich right now. Veggie patty is off the menu.

Edited to add: I just ate the cauliflower sandwich. It might be dipped in batter. There was so much sauce it was hard to tell. The green beans are definitely battered. The grey stuff, also not GF, there's cake in the middle and it's on a cookie. Didn't try anything else, sorry.

Did you actually like the items you tried? I'm particularly interested in the grey stuff. :)

The grey stuff was a red velvet cake with raspberries on top and "white chocolate mousse" but it was thick, more like the consistency of frosting. And the whole thing was "plated" on a cookie. It was huge, you could easily share it 2-3 ways. It wasn't the best red velvet cake or best mousse, and the raspberries were a little weird, but I'm glad I tried it. I'd say it was good, I'd recommend anyone try it, but it's not something I'll crave or anything. I want to try the lemon rose dessert next.

The sandwich was also huge. It was easily 1/3 of a head of cauliflower in the same curry seasoning that was on the curry cauliflower dark side pizza at Pizza Port. It was really charred. The green beans were on the sandwich swimming in the aioli, which was spicier than the cauliflower. It wasn't too spicy, but if you can't handle any spicy at all, this might not be for you. The ciabatta roll was huge, it basically needed all of that sauce because it was so much bread. It came with "pomme frites" which were just the Village Haus fries under a pile of parmesan. They were great, but not like Cafe Orleans. I took some of the green beans off and dipped them in the parmesan, and I still have a giant pile of cheese. when I was done. Everyone else I saw was ordering burgers, so I didn't see the poutine other than a picture and it had pickled onions on it. The burgers just looked like the regular Village Haus burgers I'm used to seeing. Next time I want to try the BBQ flatbread without pork. Nothing else on the menu jumped out to me. There was also a special lemonade on a sign that I want to go back and read and maybe try if it's still there next time.

So does the inside look any different? It sounded like there was going to be a slight update to the decor.

The interior was the same except the menu boards. I suppose they could change something before Friday.

Thanks for the update! It sounds like DLR's version of the Grey Stuff is very different from the MK version, except in terms of the consistency. What did it taste like (frosting? white chocolate? Oreos? something else?)?

It didn't really taste like anything except sugar and subtle white chocolate, which I'm not sure someone would detect unless they're used to eating a lot of white chocolate. I was expecting more of an Oreo taste, but to be fair, I've had cookies and cream frosting that has much more Oreo and it isn't very pronounced either. Really the raspberries were most of the flavor, but there weren't a lot. The cake was moist, but red velvet doesn't have much a pronounced flavor either. There were also some crunchy decorative balls sprinkled on it, which other than the cookie and raspberry seeds was the only texture. It's a fun photo op, you can actually pick it up because it's piped onto a wafer cookie. But the reason I want to try the lemon rose dessert is I hope it has a distinguishable flavor.

We tried out the new menu yesterday, and our group really liked the poutine flatbread and the chicken sandwich. We were split on the grey stuff. Everyone liked the mousse, which we thought had a strong cookies and cream taste, but half the group didn't like the red velvet cake and/or raspberries under it.

Tried it today. We thought it tasted more like white chocolate than cookies and cream. Our table liked it and the red velvet, raspberries, and shortbread. But, they ran out of it around 1:15pm today.

GF options were:
The Beast
Cheeseburger
Cheese Pizza
Chef's Chopped Salad
Cauliflower Sandwich

With Power Pack, turkey sandwich and hamburger on the kid's GF menu.

I have a pict of the entire allergy menu, but don't know how to post it here...

Thanks for letting us know. I'll be sure to let my mom know she can have the cauliflower sandwich if she wants, assuming it's still open in June.
