Sounds like one beaut of a project.

The Walt Disney Co. has announced plans to give a 3-D makeover to the 1991 animated classic Beauty and the Beast, for a 2010 release.

According to Variety, the movie's original codirectors, Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale, will supervise the retooling of the beloved flick—the only cartoon to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. The process should take about nine months.

Beauty and the Beast will join the Mouse House's upcoming 3-D slate led by this weekend's Bolt. Next year's eye-popping releases will include Jonas Brothers 3-D Concert Movie, Pixar's Up and a revamped Toy Story, Jerry Bruckheimer's G-Force and Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey.

No word yet on an exact release date for Beauty. But 2010 will also see Disney unveil 3-D versions of Toy Story 2 and the hugely anticipated Toy Story 3, as well as Rapunzel, Step Up 3 and Tim Burton's update of Alice in Wonderland.

I didn't know that they were making Toy Story 2 in 3 D... there are going to be some good movies coming out pretty soon :)

Beauty and the Beast in 3-D sounds pretty awesome
and yet...makes me a little sad at the same time...I guess it's sad to see them re-doing classics. I like 3-D animation as much as anyone, but there's just something special about the the 2-D animation. Still....I love Beauty and the Beast.

I am really pumped about Alice in Wonderland too! Well...I love Tim Burton's stuff.

And isn't it a little early to already be re-doing Toy Story 2?

^^ They aren't remaking Beauty and the Beast into CGI which is what many people think. It is going to be the same exact movie just given more depth with 3-D visuals. Just like all their movies that they are releasing now where you wear the 3-D glasses when you go into the theater.

What a strange movie to put into 3-D
I bet "Be Our Guest" is a pretty cool scene though.
Uh...why are they making everything into 3D?
I don't like 3D movies, they make me flinch, and everyone laughs at me

That is a little funny :rotfl: I am really looking forward to it and think the ballroom scene will look awesome in 3-D.
