Beautiful.. Absolutely beautiful!!

Well since I'm in the mountains, I would say that "we" have invaded their territory - not the other way around.. So I guess that makes "us" the nuisance.. Good thing they don't carry guns or know how to drive..;)

Sorry - I think they're a beautiful sight - as is all of the wildlife up here..:thumbsup2

I agree wholeheartedly with you C. Ann. I live on a mountain in a rural area so we have tons of deer here.

Every spring we have at least two or three fawns born right in our yard - it's so much fun to watch them play as they grow!

We also see a lot of wild turkeys (the babies are hysterical) and a fox now and then. We live in black bear country, but I see them rarely. A few years ago a mother and FOUR cubs took a leisurely stroll up my driveway, into the yard and over the wall into the woods. Beautiful but a little scary! I think I had a coyote in my yard about 8 years ago - I remember thinking "well it's not a dog, but it kinda looks like one..."

I love the wildlife - it's the best part about living where I do!

Heck - I'm still waiting to get a good look (and hopefully a photo) of the bears up here!! :thumbsup2

Would I invite one in for dinner? No.. But I'm in their territory - which make me the nuisance - right? :goodvibes

You need a critter cam, that's the only way we got the good picture of "our" bear on our property, the one that is in my signature.

We have only seen him once, a year ago this past spring. He was in the neighbor's yard. We stepped outside to get a better look, and I even stood on top of the picnic table to try to get a better picture (I took one, through the window) but when he saw us he was all for getting away from us and ran. :(

The other neighbor had problems with the bear coming right up into their yard and eating out of their bird feeders. Mike went out to holler at him, thinking he would run off, but the bear just looked at him and continued eating. So Mike got his gun and shot, not at him, but just to scare him off. It's not good to have the bear in our yards like that. He's getting a little too bold. :(

I love to see deer. In our neighborhood we see them frequently. It was all woods here not too terribly long ago. They still come around and one of our neighbors has them trained to come and eat out of his hand. They are so beautiful.

Tell him one strike of their hooves can be deadly!!!!!

I don't know if it was last fall - or the fall before that - but anyhow.. I saw a big deer right across the road up my neighbors driveway a bit.. (They had already left for the season..) I got my camera and very, very quietly started up the driveway - wanted to get as close as I could for a really great shot..

Well - all of a sudden this deer started stomping his hooves and making this horrible snorting noise - a noise I have never heard from a deer before (or since).. It really startled me - and it was obvious that this deer was angry and did not want me taking any photos.. So I very, very slowly started backing away - then ran like the dickens back inside..

When I started asking around as to why the deer had done this, I was told it was "rut" season..

Well - needless to say, no more sneaking up on deer - LOL.. I'll get the best shot I can with my zoom lens and leave it at that...:rotfl::rotfl:

That deer was really ticked off!!!!!!!!!:eek:

Yep, deer can be really dangerous! Good thing you hightailed it outta there!!! They are magnificant creatures, and beautiful to watch.

Here are two videos to show you just how dangerous they can be. The first one is a hunter, who stupidly applies deer attractant to his body. DH and I are both hunters and never dream of doing this!!! Number 1, it stinks. Number 2, it is dangerous, as the video shows. The second video shows how protective a doe with a fawn can be.

Oh geez! Thanks so much - especially the second video with the doe and the fawn.. Just this summer, DD and her family were down to the lake and their dog kept pulling my DD towards a grassy, marshy area along the shoreline.. When DD got there, she saw a baby fawn - all curled up and sleeping.. Her dog (who loves all animals) was sniffing around the fawn, trying to give it "kisses", etc.. The doe wasn't in sight and after a minute or so, DD and the dog returned to my beach area.. I can only imagine (now - after seeing that video) what might have happened if they hung around a little longer..:eek:

I'm going to email her that link today.. Thank you sooooo much for bringing that to my attention!

You are very welcome!

Just emailed it to both my DD and her DH individually.. (DD isn't good about checking her emails..) Told them to make sure that they watched it all the way to the end..

Again, thank you very, very much..:goodvibes

I don't think any of them considered that the doe would be nearby and attack like that!
:eek::eek::eek:

I wonder what happened to the poor dog and cat? :(

The dog was hurt, but recovered fine. The cat was not injured. They were both lucky!!! Deer have sharp, cloven hooves. It wouldn't take much to do some serious damage!

Now, couple that with our local deer, which have no fear of people (as in, I have been mowing the lawn, turned around, and there deer is standing there, within ten feet, sneering at me, as though to say "Get of my lawn, punk), neighbors who feed said deer, and people (eps kids) who think that deer are "cute" and want to touch them, and I'm just waiting for the inevitable disaster.

Just talked to DD.. She and her DH (along with my DGD) watched the clip.. Never again will they get that close to a fawn - or any deer again!! (Or allow their dog to sniff one out!) They were shocked.. (Her DH is not a hunter - has never been a fan of it..)
