My son is now 11 years old and is over the beanie baby stage. We have about 200 and I would love to donate them to a good cause. Does anyone know of any? I heard at one point the army was taking them?

THANKS

If they are new and clean, you can donate them to your local PD. They often keep stuffed animals in their trunks to give to children when they respond to a traumatic call so as to give them a positive memory of the event.

Also your local Fire Dept. My Husband is a Volunteer Fireman and he always keeps stuff like this with him so if he responds onto an accident with a child in the vehicle he can give them a stuffed animal and it kind of keeps their mind off of what is going on around them. The fire depts here do not care if they are new or not, just that they are clean or sometimes they even throw them in the wash machine themselves and put them in ziploc bags to keep on the firetrucks. Good Luck- I was in the same boat and it made me feel good that others could benefit from them not that my kids are done with them.

Thanks. I never thought of the PD or FD needing them but that sounds great and I won't have to mail them!!!

Thanks for the graet idea. Luckily, my DD still is into her BB. I was one of those who was involved in the "craze" and I have hundreds in my garage. The god news is if a need a gift in a hurry, I've got it covered! Also, I give my DD some every once in awhile. But, yes, we do still buy the new ones. I can't help myself, it's a sickness! :goodvibes

You can also try your local hospital, save them and donate to an organization collecting gifts at Christmas time.

I sent ours over to several of the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. The soldiers liek to carry them around to give to the children. These little gestures go along way in improving relations between the troops and the locals. Plus it means so much to child who has so little :thumbsup2 I sent these in care packages that I sent to the troops that included stuff for them as well.

I donated a lot of stuffed animals to a local womens shelter a couple of years ago. Many of them leave in the middle of the night with their kids and nothing else. Also, maybe the Red Cross with Hurricane Season on us again. Hopefully nothing like last year will happen, but you just never know.

Check with the Fire and Police Departments first. A lot of the departments around here are not allowed to take any stuffed toys that have any parts (like eyes) that could come off and choke someone. A few departments also will not accept used toys. I know the department I work for can only take stuffed toys with stiched-on eyes and such.

But it's a great thing to do if they will take them!

I have been looking for one that looks like Princess Hollie the Yorkie !!!! Does anyone know if there is a Yorkie Beanie Baby ??????

I just saw the other day the local senior center wanted stuffed animals for bingo prizes on their wish list. Maybe ask your local senior center.

A few years back the middle school youth group at our church collected and donated beanies to an organization called Beanies for Premiees - don't know if they still exist or not. They would somehow sterlize the beanies and then donate them to certain hospitals to put in with the premature babies.

Yep, they do that. Both of my daughters were in NICU for days with severe jaundice. They both were given a beanie baby in their isolettes to give them something to look at.

I had a bunch to donate and called our local hospital and they said no because they aren't new and unused. They only want new, sterile items for the hopsital. I can't blame them! I ended up giving them to a girl at work who gave them to her church.

Another idea - my DDs preschool had a local veternarian come to visit their school and gave each of the kids a beanie baby to show them how to "treat" their animal.

My mom was totally into the beanie babies craze. When she moved she had tons of things to get rid of. I took the beanie babies and used them as favors for one of my kid's first birthday parties. We went with an animal theme because of this. We had over 100 people and each person went home with a beanie baby (or two or three, lol) that had hershey kisses wrapped in tuille (sp?) tied around it's neck along with a laminated note that had my kid's picture and a thank you saying on it. They were a big hit! Though it did bother my mom a bit when she thought about how much money she had wasted on those things!

Another idea... my sons elementary school had a spring carnival in May and used donated toys as prizes for the games for the kids. Maybe a local school PTO could use them...

Our family donated our entire collection to Operation Beanie Babies. We felt really good about the new home our Beanies would have with those less fortunate. Good Luck!

It's a good idea to check with the hospital before you go there with the toys.
If the children have life threatening diseases, they won't accept them. I had sealed Disney videos and the local children's cancer hospital told me they couldn't accept them because they might compromise the children's immune systems. The local hospital took them instead.
