We will be visiting San Diego next month and I would really like to stay at a beachfront hotel. Can anyone recommend a hotel in the San Diego area? It doesn't have to be right in San Diego but within driving distance to the city.

Thanks!

Mary

Thanks you for this post. Cause I am going to San Diego in March and was wondering the same thing.

I did not stay in a beach front hotel but I stayed on Coronado at the Marriott with a bayview. It was a wonderful view of San Diego skyline and the San Diego Bay. I definitely recommend this hotel.

I'd recommend the Loews Coronado or Hotel Del Coronado. Both are on Coronado Island but the drive to Downtown San Diego isn't too bad at all (15 minutes max).

The beaches on Coronado are lovely, and both of these hotels offer direct access.

Coronado is a bit more isolated and out of the way from everything else going on...but that doesn't stop people from loving it!

We enjoy staying at the Pacific Terrace, it's in Pacific Beach (a community in San Diego) right on the ocean. It's just a few miles to Seaworld, Old Town, Downtown, etc. I don't think there are many hotels that fit this particular bill if you are looking for oceanfront accommodations.

Our travel agent way back when (before I did it all on my own LOL) recommended it as her favorite place. They don't do packages however.

Shh! It will just be our little secret.

We just returned from San Diego. We stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in downtown San Diego. We had a bay view room that overlooked Coronado Island. We loved the area because it was next to outdoor dining and shopping that overlooked the bay. There were no great beaches in downtown San Diego, so we drove to Coronado island (10 Min) I fell in love with Coronado Beach. If you have the money, stay in the Hotel Del Coronado. Amazing views of the ocean and the beach sand feels like feathers!

The best is the Hotel Del Coronado! As previous posters said! The downtown ones are really isolated, and you wouldn't want to walk around too much! The Del has its own beach!

Is this area easy to get around without a car? Are there any good places to eat in the evening that are not too expensive?

I was looking at this one...what did you like about it? Is it a hassle to get to the beach (down stairs)? I read on tripadvisor that there is no on site restaurant wither, was that ok? Any advice would be appreciated. THANKS

Used some DVC points for a few nights at the Hotel Del Coronado last August. Gorgeous rooms, beach etc... Our DD's 18 and 20 were taking pictures of the bathrooms when we first got there. DS 14 loved the flat panel TVs in the rooms. If you can swing it, I highly recommend this hotel. I would however recomend a car, there was a trolley though for a fee.
