BeachClub Villas VS Old Key West

Unfortunately, just to stay. We hope to purchase in the future. We will be there December 16 -December 23. I have heard the decorations are gorgeous. We have a reservation at OKW, but are considering switching, if there is availability. I have fallen in love with the pictures. We also LOVE the idea of being so close to Epcot. We wanted to try several restaurants there and planned to be in the park late. The distance to Epcot is also a wonderful bonus. And I really love the idea of being so close to the boardwalk. Seems to be constant entertainment. I must say, our main reason for choosing OKW initially was due to savings in points. The more I researched, the more glowing reviews I read for OKW. I also liked the fact that all the rooms at OKW had either a balcony or a patio. I am sure I would enjoy the stay, but I just can not get over the pictures for BCV. It appears to be beautiful and with the many other added bonuses, I think it may be worth the additional expense. Tell me, how bad are the buses at BCV? Will they make me regret my choice? Thanks for all the replies. :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Maybe you should split your stay between the two.

Either is great. You'll be at WDW, so what's the problem?

OKW. I've stayed at the BCV and was underwhelmed by the service and the rooms. I guess the OKW space has spoiled me!;)

Well - here is my experience - you can walk to both Epcot and MGM. With Epcot especially - it is so nice to just walk out the uncrowded International Gateway entrance - as opposed to have to walk with the wave of crowds out the front entrance and then having to wait for a bus to OKW (and most of the time stand if you are not lucky to get in the front of the line) and then have to go thru all the stops at OKW.

You could be back in your room in your jammies at BCV before you would be on a bus going to OKW. Been there done that! Once we were at BCV and friends were at OKW - we called them when we got to the room and they were still waiting for the next bus!

The walk from MGM is longer - but you can wait for the boat and it's still nicer than being on the bus!

So you only have two buses - MK and AK. The MK bus had been the issue - but they have now split the MK bus to one for Y&B and one for S&D&BW. Only two stops! and even when it was all of them it wasn't a problem from the BCV, the only issues I had ever read about was with the BW pick-up. Anytime we have taken the AK bus from BCV it has always been fairly empty - both AM and PM!

Hope this helps! Don't worry, be happy!

OKW is a little too off the beaten path for us... too quiet... And having the car handy is nice, but we seem to have to depend on a car too much... we'd prefer a boat or a short walk. So, of the 2, I'd pick BCV... walk to Epcot, the boardwalk, great pool, nice boat ride to MGM...

I've already got our 2005 trip planned... we'll be staying at BCV, with a side trip up to HHI... just waiting for our 7-month window :p

We own at BCV and just love it there. We have never had a bad expierience in the 3 times we have stayed there. It is true that we were just a little nervous the first time we stayed there because of all the negativity we had read, but I am a firm beleiver in forming my own opinion. And I'm certainly glad we did. All of us are differant and have differant needs and wants and expectations.

We do plan on staying at each one of the DVC resorts because i'm sure they all have their own special qualities. It will depend on our needs at the time. We will be staying at Saratoga Springs next May, because both our kids own there and of course they want to stay there because that will be their first trip home.

We are pretty easy. We figure, if it's a Disney resort, how can it be bad.

well, i never have been to okw, but- we stayed at bcv over the summer. i thought the room was wonderful (as usual), but, the long trek to stormalong bay pool area was a bit too much (even though i know it by heart now!) my kids for the most part prefrd. that pool, to the smaller and quiter one, just out our window. i ended spending more of my swim time at the quit one- mainly to avoid the long walk! but, what i was wondering, was why can't they have some sort of mini food and bar service there??? that was a bit sad (you know, just like at boardwalk villas).

I'm considering splitting my stay next summer between BCV and SSR. We won't have a car so my question is, will DVC transfer your luggage from one DVC resort to another? I thought that Disney did do this if guest switched from one resort to the other.

Yes they will transfer the luggage. Talk to Bell Services and tell them what you want to do. On check out day they pick up your luggage and usually have it to your new resort by 4:00 P.M. You can go out an enjoy the day without worrying about luggage.

If I had to pick one resort for a one-time-never-go-back-to-WDW stay, I would pick BCV.

If I had to pick one for stay-there-every-time-you-go-until-2042, I would pick OKW.

I own at BCV and absolutely love it. I've stayed at BWV and liked it too, but prefer BCV for the pools and dining choices at the resort. I've never been to OKW but hope to try it one day. I just learned I'm taking a trip in February with my 80yo father and aunt/uncle (late 70's) and was considering OKW 2BR for the space. But, with the 3 of them using ECV's (scooters) and wanting to spend most of our time at Epcot, BCV or BWV will be better for us.

BCV, no question. You can't beat the location!

From the 2, we would pick BCV, unless we were on a budget trip and needed to save DVC points; then we would stay at OKW.

Just because Richyams would say sor, BWV sucks. Long hallways, small rooms and parking is a mile away.

How about Old Key West *AND* Beach Club Villas. We did that on our trip before last and it worked out great.

It had been a verrryyy stressful time at work, amd starting the trip off at OKW was just what the doctor ordered. It was the perfect place for me to slow down and chill out . For the second week we moved over to BCV, and we were ready then for something with a little more to do. I found the combination to be exactly what I needed, and would not have changed a thing.

Isn't that the great thing about DVC - something for everyone !

Don't choose either. Go with BWV. You can get the price of OKW, the location of BCV, and the best view of both. OK, I'm a new owner at BWV, and just wanted to toot its horn just a bit.:teeth:

At Christmas I hear VWL is the best resort to be at.

Tigger1...funny, that's kind of what crossed my mind too...

For the original poster, OKW has bigger rooms, bigger balconies and you can park right in front of your villa. And many would say it's the only true DVC resort.

Sorry, on this sad day, I just could not resist;)
