Just got back from my tour and was wondering if anyone knew the going rate of BCV direct from Disney. I know it is sold out, but I have no problem waiting a while for points to become available. I am thinking a June use month. I was wondering if anyone else has bought BCV directly lately and how long it took?

I am also booked for a January cruise on the Fantasy...is it worth waiting until that time for a better deal?

why not resale?

I am thinking a June use month.

i assume you rarely travel in march-april-may?

there's no rush in any event but resale will save you a bit if you are looking for a deal...

also, this thread isn't restaurant-related so it will probably be moved to the DVC forums. join us here:

Resale makes me a little nervous, in that it seems Disney can change their rules at anytime if you didn't purchase directly from them.

I would consider March as an option as that when my daughter has spring break, but we seem to travel more in June. I will have to think about that some more.

actually, they can change the rules at any time regardless of whether you buy direct or resale. it's the mouse's world and we're just lucky to live in it... ;)

one example, DVC owners used to get free valet parking. one night they valeted their cars, and the next morning found out that the perk had been revoked - for all DVC owners. usually DVC gives us more of a heads up, but whether you buy direct or resale, the perks can change or go away...

if you have the cash and won't be happy unless you have the option to trade out for cruises and a few other hotel options like the poly at wdw and the hotel del coronado near san diego (but at high point costs which are subject to change from year to year), then buying direct is a quicker way to DVC ownership.

but if your circumstances change and you need to sell, you will be selling at resale prices whether you bought direct or resale. if DVC makes another change that cuts the value of resale contracts, you will still lose more by having bought direct. so don't be surprised if a lot of "buy resale" advice comes up on the DIS...just ignore it if you have made up your mind.

a june UY is a little risky for march travel if you need to cancel. no UY month covers every situation, though.

Resale made me nervous too but...........now we are waiting to close on a 160 point contract at BCV. $72pp vs $115pp. Saved $6880 by buying resale. Plus we got 160 banked points. I hear Disney isn't giving previous years' points any more and you may have to wait for your UY.

We also have 310 points at BLT bought direct and they can and do change their rules even if you buy direct. As evidenced by them allowing all DVC members to TOWL this summer. As a selling point, TOWL was to be for the exclusive use of members staying on points at BLT. :confused3

There is ample reason for people to advise you to buy resale. That said, you need to do what feels right to you.

Good luck with your research and please let us know what you decide to do.

we are buying Beach Club direct. In fact, I just signed the closing docs yesterday. There is no minimum point purchase. We are closing on a 75 point contract. We just chose direct for a number of reasons. I wrote them in a previous thread. Let me see if I can paste it here? Trust me, I did my research.

BELOW IS MY POST FROM A PREVIOUS THREAD

We JUST purchased our first DVC contract. We purchased direct for a number of reasons:

1) We wanted a specific amount of points at a popular resort....75 points at Beach Club. These do NOT come up very often and, when they do, you have to be ON it FAST! We started looking a few months ago and just could not catch the "right" contract.

2) We wanted to use the points to book our trip next June...if we went resale, there is no guarantee I would make the 11 month booking window at the end of this July.

3) Going direct I had the opportunity to put it on a 0% credit card and spread the payments out over 15 months, if I so choose. I also put the down payment on flight miles credit card for that bonus, which I will pay off immediately.

4) Disney has been claiming a lot of Beach Club contracts lately through ROFR. I did not want to go through the waiting game, not was time on my side for that.

5) Sure, I paid probably $30-35 more per point than resale, but the above reasons (mostly #1 and 4) outweighed the savings for me I probably could have purchased more points for that extra money through resale, but I dont need them and then would be saddled with the yearly maintenance fees on them just to save some bucks in the beginning.

SO, my advice to you is think about your individual needs. The disboards are very pro-resale, and should be as it is the most affordable option, but it might not work for YOUR needs.

Have you stayed at BCV? Experienced the resort and views?

There is a lot of ins and outs to owning a DVC interest and information is power. The tour is very one sided designed to get you all excited about buying without asking the important questions.

Yes owning can save you some money depending on how often you vacation at DVC resorts but you can also expect to spend thousands and thousands of dollars at Disney.

Congratulations!!!

Are you already a member and this is an add-on?

Did you get previous years' points?

Yes, we have stayed at BCV twice now. We have also stated at all star, Swan,Caribbean Beach, and just recently Aulani. I have already spent thousands at WDW and will most likely continue to do so. We really enjoy the Boardwalk area and the pool at BCV.

So it sounds like it is easier to get the number of points and use date for BCV direct, but with a significant price disadvantage vs resale. Is the 10 bonus point offer for every 100 that Disney is offering currently available at BCV?

I don't need to purchase immediately so I can wait and see if a better deal comes up in the future.

Out of curiosity, is it a Dec use year? I just had a sweet Dec BCV ROFR'd a few weeks back. $60 per point with 3 years points. I'm still sad about that one. ;)

Sorry, the only places they are offering the 10 point bonus is for Aulani and AKV. It seems to me that they do not offer ANY incentives on resorts that are considered "sold out".

unfortunately there are no incentives to buy the sold out resorts:( I also do not believe there will be in the near future as I have never seen one and we have been looking to buy since 2007. Yes, it took us that long to finally make the jump! And to answer your other question, you can buy the exact number of points you need if you go direct...if they are available in the use year you want.

Congratulations and welcome home! I am also considering adding on direct for BCV as I want 75-100 points in my use year and all the resales I have looked into are gone before I can get to them, not for my UY, or they are more points than I need. I own at SSR but want the 7 month booking advantage at BCV because of Food and Wine, Flower and Garden, the Marathon and 1/2 marathon as well as the Princess 1/2 marathon as we have family who come to cheer us on. I know I can get my points I need right now and have them to use for this January and February, which is very tempting. I will also use a 0% credit card and spread it out, so no financing.

With Disney Visa you can get 0% for 6 months. If it's a Premier Visa you can get 2% rewards on your purchase.

If you buy direct will Disney let you put it on any credit card or just the Disney card?
