I'm so confused!!! We already did our WDW trip so this summer we are looking to head to NC or SC to the beach but we need more to do than the beach for our teens. We are on a budget and don't want to rent something for a week. And most places want Sat-Sat and that doesn't work for our schedule.

We were looking at Charleston, staying in Isle of Palms but now I'm thinking maybe we should go to MB instead and then I start looking and get more confused.

So please just tell me where to go! Quieter beach area, dh wants to be oceanfront, near inexpensive or free things to do and when I say budget I mean $200 or less a night AND it has to be near a movie theatre...DS & I have to be at a midnight show of HP Part 2

Does it have to be SC or NC and does the hotel have to be ON the beach?

An extended stay hotel might be good if you can find one near the coast.

I am not sure when you are traveling, but 4th of July week in Myrtle Beach, I found an extended stay for $107/night for 4 nights.

Extended stay places have kitchens and the privilege of cleaning up after yourself since housekeeping is limited (weekly/full cleaning). But it is a cheap way to get close to where you want when you can't afford much more.:thumbsup2 Beach parking would be a consideration of course. This location is about 2 or so miles from the coast.

Amelia Island, FL... quiet area, and north of Jacksonville. Cheaper than St. Simon's Island, and same general area. Beautiful downtown area too.

Panama City Beach, FL... it's nice when the spring break crowd leaves.

Virginia Beach... it can get pricey though.

Look into the Destin area!!!
(close to, but MUCH better than PCB)

Much better than Atlantic beaches...

I am sure you could find lots to do.

You don't have to rent by the week.

And, if you are driving, you may find that it is not a longer drive...
It is a L O N G way east out to the beaches of the Carolina's

;)

We will be there, at Sandestin, in a few weeks.
I just can't wait!

PS: $200.00 to be ON the beach????? Not that I know of...

I'll suggest my favorite beach resort: Litchfield which is about 15-20 miles south of Myrtle Beach. They have a variety of accommodations, some away from the beach, and some ocean front. If you stay away from the beach, you are close to a nice pool area. You also can walk, ride a cart, or drive to the beach house, which is open to guests.

I like it because the beach area is very quiet, but you can be in the hustle and bustle of Myrtle Beach within minutes. It is very close to Brookgreen Gardens (sculpture garden) whose purchase ticket is good for one week. It is also close to Myrtle Beach State Park ($5 per car admission) which has an interesting older home to tour ($1 per person). It is also very close to Murrells Inlet which has some awesome restaurants. It is also near Georgetown which is an interesting little historic town. Charleston would be a very doable day trip.

I plugged in some dates around Harry Potter time, and they do have oceanfront for under $200, for 1 bedroom suite (2 queens and a pull out sofa). They also have a two bedroom suite not oceanfront, but close to the pool area for about $204. Not required to rent for a week.

The nearest movie theatre is about 10 minutes drive.

Litchfield...hmmm

Florida panhandle is about 15 hours, NC/SC is only 12 so we'd rather go a little closer to home. I know it's only 3 hours but we were in FL in March.
