We are planning a split stay with 6 nights at WL followed by 6 more nights at the Poly or Beach Club. The Poly Garden View is $200 more that the Standard View at the BC. Any thoughts as to which one is preferred?

We are a family of four. Kids are 9 and 7. Any help appreciated. We like the idea of the pool at the BC but everyone raves about the Poly so I am finding it very hard to decide.

Is the standard view at the Beach club likely to be a parking lot view ?? A water view is another $500 for the BC. thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I am subscribing to your thread, as we have never stayed anywhere but the YC or Beach Club or Boardwalk. We have current reservations at the Poly in Dec. and I am interested in the replies. Thanks for letting me hijack.

The Poly garden views are generally very pretty and the BC standard views aren't as pretty...a water view could mean you'll see a pool. Plus, the Poly is on the monorail and has bigger rooms. You also have a much better shot at getting a full balcony at the Poly. So, there's your difference in price!

I am the only person in the whole world (or World), I think, who is not a fan of the Beach Club's pool. I would rather have the Poly pool, and that's the truth. And not just because they play Polynesian music under the water...it's a pool. If it isn't crowded, you can swim. That Beach Club pool is fine for kids, I guess. But I prefer the Poly pool - or just about any pool to Storm Along Bay.

But I think the Beach Club is beautiful. I love the rooms (very bright), kind of like the lobby (as much as the Poly, anyway), love the quick walk to the World Showcase. It is very laid-back, very easy-going. I like the giant umbrellas in the hall by the restaurant.

You've picked 2 of my 3 favorite WDW hotels, so I can't be much help.

You really can't go wrong either way, IMO.

Cool-beans,
You're not crazy...I prefer the BW pool over storm along bay anyday of the week. I can't watch my kids the way I like to at SOB. At the Boardwalk pool, I can see them from every angle and they have as much fun on that slide as any other....
Take care,

I love both Beach Club and Poly.

If you don't want to pay for the water view :scared: $$$

Poly seems to only have 10% of its rooms where you can see a little bit of the parking lot. Beach Club has 40% of its rooms that face right out into a big parking lot.

Beach Club is a bigger gamble...but if you get up-graded to a lagoon view room I love the location between Epcot and MGM

Poly is a safer play if your not a betting man.

Just back Monday night from the Poly and cannot tell you how UNDERWHELMED I was with the place. We were in Fiji..Garden View and it was, in a word, drab. Elevators small and dark and the rooms...just dark and nothing inviting really. The 'Volcano' Pool is packed and a huge hit with the kids. Basically, if you are an adult, you get in and pretty much stand there because it is so full.

We stayed at the 'Beach Club' last August. Loved the rooms...the sandy bottomed pool, not so much, but would take it over the Poly in a New York minute! The Poly was just not what it used to be in my opinion.

I have stayed in both and I would pick Poly Garden view hands down. I think the Beach Club is in desperate need of a rehab. My DH and I stayed at BC alone during a Food and Wine Festival and it was nice to be within walking distance to EPCOT, but when we go back with the kids we will definitely stay Poly again. We were in Fiji, 3rd floor Marina side and absolutely LOVED IT!

I'd personally pick the Poly. We loved the resort, pool, monorail...
Do you intend to spend a lot of time at MGM ? That's the only thing that would make me pick BC over Poly, because of the boat transportation.

Sounds like the Poly is ahead. Bigger rooms and the monorail. We are going in late April and hoping to avoid the crowds so hopefully the pool won't be that busy. I really don't like the idea of getting a parking lot view, which sounds like might happen at the BC. Would rather downgrade the resort and pay for a better view than getting parking lot noise.

I personally think the BC is a much better overall resort than the Polynesian. It's completely self contained - something I personally don't like about the Polynesian (and the Grand Floridian for that matter), has a much better pool more suitable in size, better overall restaurant choices and again just my opinion but a better locatoin. I'd choose it always over the Polynesian, which I consider to be a very nice resort, too. The newly rehabbed rooms are, indeed, larger.

Oooh Decision, decisions.
I've never been one to pay extra for a view so take my advice with a grain of salt.
I've had good views and not so great views (parking lot) at the BC. So yes there is a chance you will get the parking lot view at BC. I simply like to chill on my balcony at the end of a long day so I wouldn't pay the extra for a specific view. Never, ever had any noise problems from cars or other guest even with a bad view at the BC. If views would bug you than you should spring for a guaranteed view.
I love both BC and Poly but BC has the slight edge, returning there in November.

I can speak for the Poly, The last time we stayed there, we had a garden view room. Pool views are garden views. We had a beatiful view of the Volcano pool with the GF rising above it and Bay lake over on the right. The Poly gets my vote!!

oooh. It makes it harder with some new support coming in for the BC:confused3

Well, it might sound crazy, but why not split between the 2?

We stayed at Beach Club and LOVED it! The pool is one of the best or if not the best hotel pools in Fl. It has been ranked top 5 for years.
But if you aren't going to use the pool then I would say stay at Poly due to it being so close to MK, it is fun to ride the rail. We stayed a Cont. and really like it there also because it was close to MK.
So if summer time- Stay at BC
if winter time-Stay at Poly
IMO;)
We are going today in just a few hours!!!!!
This time we are trying the POP!!
I would like to try all of the hotels at WDW.LOL

We had the coveted BC parking lot view this year. Although we did get to look at the roof of the area where you pull in to check in - were we upgraded? :woohoo: Ha ha! Also, we had one of the little balconies w/o chairs. Good thing was we were near the elevator.

Of course when we booked it, we knew what we were getting. We never book based on the chance of an upgrade.

Stayed at Poly twice with standard views a few years back, but I don't recall them being that bad.

Either way - both resorts are beautiful. Decisions, decisions!

I have paid for water view at the BC and had a room directly facing the lake. If it wasn't for the big trees, we could have really seen something other than the volley ball area! :rotfl: In my opinion, it wasn't worth the money. Another time we had standard view and got upgraded for free-pool view (sort-of). It was nice, but if I had paid for it, I would have been a little bummed. Our only BC standard view room we had was back in 2002, and I have to say, I can't remember anything about it. It may have to do with the fact that our children were so young. I think we kept the doors closed and locked all the time.

We have done BWV with a boardwalk view and I have to say I really think that was worth the $$. I also think MK view would be worth it at the POLY. At any other resort, I'd probably book standard view and hope for the best! :)

I have stayed at both and now that my kids are older, BC is their favorite. It depends on how much time you will spend at MK for Poly or how much time you spend at Epcot and MGM. We spend our nights at Epcot, having dinner and watching the fireworks. Its also really fun to walk over to the Boardwalk. We love the bright rooms at the BC. We felt like the Poly was kind of dark. Both pools are great for the kids.

I cannot comment on the Poly and we will be staying at the BC in Nov:cool1: . We upgraded from POR when the codes came out a few weeks ago. Just ran across the YC/BC is featured on the Travel Channel on GREAT HOTELS:yay: Here is the info on the next showing.

Great Hotels
Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts - FL
TV-G, CC 12:00pm on Sept 6th

Nestled on a lake within eyeshot of EPCOT at Walt Disney World, these fantasy-themed resorts turn back the clock to the turn-of-the-century summer homes of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Samantha enjoys the super-sized pool and a Kitchen Sink sundae.

There were only 3 Disney hotels listed for having a show on. AKL,YC/BC, and the GF.

I will be watching to see what they say. We paid for a standard room.

Beth

I think the Poly might be the go this time.

Marivaid - we plan to split with the WL where we really want to stay. WE just can't decide whether to split with Poly or BC.

Katielou - would love to hear about how your trip goes in Nov.

Thanks again to everyone. It really helps when you can directly ask people that have been there. I have seen the show on the Travel channel but they rarely give an negatives to any resorts so it's hard to get an objective view other than on DIS.
