We will be staying at the Beach Club for the first time in August, and I have a few quick questions:

Where are the "best" standard view rooms located if we want to be near the main pool area?
Is it better to be on the first floor, and what's the difference in the balconies?
Are they pretty good about room/area requests?
Is it possible to get an upgrade upon check-in?
Do all rooms have balconies or patios?
How long of a walk is it to Epcot, MGM, the Boardwalk, and can you walk a complete circle around the lake?
Does the transportation/busses/boats take forever??

Thanks! I am sure I will have lots more questions later!

Hi! Welcome to the DIS!

You will love the BC! It is a relaxed, fun resort.

The rooms are rather spread-out at the resort. I am not really familiar with what the best standard rooms are, but there are BC fans here who know and may even provide exact room numbers!!

Room requests: these are never guaranteed anywhere, but the BC will do their best. When you make a request, make sure to list your preferences in priority. That way the room assigners can make sure to match your room to what's most important to you.

Check-in upgrades: If they are available, they may be able to accommodate you. My DW and I went last Nov. and had only a standard room. We were surprised at check-in to be upgraded to concierge -- complimentary. Sometimes surprises happen, but don't expect it. A good approach I use is to ask if anything is available and offer to pay for what it is if they will tell me what the cost is.

The walk to Epcot is short, but you enter in WS. So if it's before 11 AM, you have to walk around to FW. You can walk to Boardwalk and even MGM.

Transportation is very good. We did not have long waits for either bus or boat. We loved taking the boat to/from MGM -- it's just a relaxing way to travel.

Hope you enjoy your stay!!

;) Yes you can walk all the way around the lake. Also you can go to the "New Yacht&Beach club ?&answer forum" on these boards. They have a floorplan of the Beach Club. you can get a good idea of where the standard rooms are located.
:) Hope this helps.
