Beach Club now overbooked

HOPE that this works out for you!:goodvibes I can completely understand your DISAPPOINTMENT:sad2: having booked so long ago, specifically to be convenient for F&W! I haven't seen many posts on a situation like this on reservations being moved:scratchin , truly hope for you that it works out! ::yes::

Depending on the dates, if it overlaps Gartner, Gartner had huge blocks at BW, BC and YC (plus Swan/Dolphin).

You probably need to take the AKL offer or cancel and book at Swan or Dolphin. I know someone attending a conference at YC the week prior and he wanted to extend this trip to Tuesday the 8th and he could not because the YC/BC is totally booked. Another conference is happening that week so he has to checkout by the 7th.

I am going on the 3-8th and wanted an Epcot resort. There was nothing available at all at those resorts. I am booked at the Dolphin.

That weekend is a Run Disney event weekend and people are likely extending into the next week. There literally is no availability that week...try and book your dates online and you will see.

It sucks but these things happen. All the complaining in the world won't magically create open rooms when there are none.

I would be extremely upset if that happened to us- especially if it happened after we had non-refundable flights booked. When we book at EPCOT area resorts, it is for the purpose of being able to walk to both EPCOT and DHS and to use the Stormalong Bay pool- and it has also always been for Food and Wine. We spend the BC/YC money to be able to hop in and out of EPCOT from the resort for the Food and Wine booths. Although AKL is very nice, we don't stay there because the only reason we would stay there would be a Savannah view room and the price of those are not significantly cheaper than a stay at an Epcot area or Monorail access resort and for us the quick transportation to the parks is much more important. Also, the rooms are smaller than YC/BC or the monorail resorts. To me, AKL would be a downgrade from BC/YC- just because of the room size and location. That said- AKL is actually a really great resort. We have stayed there and loved it-- BUT that was back when the Savannah room prices were quite a bit lower than the Monorail or YC/BC prices which is no longer the case.

You definitely need to speak to a manager, and even the manager's manager if necessary I ran your check in date with a weeks stay and rooms at the Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary come up. I know it isn't the BC, but at least that would have some quicker park access. Maybe they could move you there- aside from the pool and the fact it is the last week of Food and Wine at EPCOT, I would consider that a lateral move. In any event, I would nicely explain to the Manager assuming it is true that this is a Food and Wine Festival trip and that your resort choice- was based entirely on proximity to EPCOT and DHS and the Stormalong Bay Pool, that your ADRs are primarily in EPCOT based on and that you would consider AKL a significant downgrade from that. If you have nonrefundable flights, I would explain that as well. I would expect a significant discount/refund and perks (i.e. extra FPS etc) if I was being moved to AKL and I would expect a Savannah view room.

Gartner is in October, and it looks like you are coming in after the Run Disney event. The week may have a lot of people staying from the Run Disney event, and also that was the week they filmed the MK Christmas parade last year, so if they are doing that again this year instead of moving it back to the prior filming dates- they may have a lot of additional people associated with the parade they are bringing in that expect deluxe level rooms.

Good luck!!! I hope they take care of you! Really, if they give you a big discount and some perks, AKL is a very nice resort. We just would not stay there at YC/BC price.

I would be very upset because while I love AKL, it is not equivalent (price wise) to BC unless they are giving you club level or a suite or something as compensation. Are they giving you the price difference?

The refurbishment of the Beach Club Villas is supposed to be finished. The villas would not be affected since most of the units are DVC and on a separate system.

We were one of the guests who had a BC reservation in December and received an offer from our travel agent of a free upgrade to the Grand Floridian due to overbooking at the BC. We accepted the offer while other people did not. Now I'm glad that we agreed to move. I would hate to be forced into another resort.

This has me worried, when were you contacted? I booked for the first week of December at BC back in November, I would be pretty upset if we were told we couldn't stay there when we booked our rooms over a year out.

Agreed! I understand that things happen, that overbooking can occur and that the fine print makes clear there are no guarantees. Years ago, we were downgraded at BC. The check-in CM insisted that we booked the downgraded room, until I produced a paper copy of our confirmation. Then his response was, "well, you've been downgraded. We'll refund the difference." I explained that we understand things happen, but in this kind of situation the replacement room should be substantially similar or an upgrade. He did not agree. We asked to speak to a manager and she (the manager) handled it wonderfully - the resolution was outstanding (and unexpected!)

When our friends arrived at BWI to check in to a deluxe CL room, BWI was overbooked and Disney found alternate accommodations. In this case, it was an upgraded room at BC. And then BC allowed them to extended their stay at the original rate. Again, an upgrade not a downgrade and excellent customer service!

So I would also suggest asking to speak with a manager - while the alternative of CR may not be ideal, it's far more convenient than AKL. And we can go with the flow much more easily when Disney makes good faith efforts to provide a reasonable resolution.

Depending on how long your stay is, perhaps you could let them know that you might consider a split stay; sometimes you are able to pick up a few days at one resort and the balance of the stay at a second resort. There might be some days of availability at the BC or YC during your stay, but not the entire length of your stay. At least you could have some time at an EPCOT resort.

This is something they may not think of offering you on their own.

I would attempt calling the resort itself and seeing what dates exactly are affecting your stay and see about splitting your stay? The next option is to stay on the phone and have them keep passing you up the line WHILE getting the names of the people you spoke with to keep track.

This. Keep calling and insisting...and as bad as it sounds, if you're more insistent then other guests, you'll get to keep your room. Yes, it stinks that's the way it works, but most times (def. at Disney) it is.

So Disney does this overbooking intentionally? How often does this occur? I see no excuse at all for doing this.

It was said up thread that some refurbs were delayed causing rooms to be taken out of circulation later than planned. That said, I'm sure they do overbook and I think most hotels overbook.

Well if its not intentional, that is not as bad then. But its still bad for those who are effected.

According to many on this site, there is no way to call the resort directly. You always talk to a call center, even when they answer as if they are at the resort itself.

November 7
A lot can happen between now and November 7th. I would ask: How many others are affected by this? What is the pecking order for cancellations? and lastly, What can you do for me to make this right?
