Disney has serious shortages in housekeeping staff at this time and no where locally to hire them from. I don't expect it to get any better. Orlando has basically out built the available manpower.

Apparently it is pretty bad as far as the housekeeping shortage. I just looked on their job website, and they're offering a $1,000 signing bonus for housekeepers who get hired through 12/31!! :bitelip:

We just got back yesterday from the Beach Club. We were there from the 9th thru the 16th. I have to say that the housekeeping services were the worst. Examples: dust so thick in places you could write in it (we did hoping they would take the hint), tv screen with little food covered hand prints all over the bottom, one day the beds weren't even finished being made, trash cans that were full were not emptied, days that clean towels weren't left,(we weren't out but the dirty ones weren't replenished), after six days we had to leave a note to ask them to wash the mirrors ( tooth brushing and flossing on the side mirror, you get the picture) A partial cracker? on the floor under the towel rack. It was there when we arrived it was there when we left. I bet it's still sitting there. Yes, we could have picked it up but we wanted to see how long it would take them. I don't think that they vacuumed at all while we were there. Just venting. :sad2: For the money you pay to stay at the BC it was very disappointing. We had other problems but this is to long already.

Well, I'm very disappointed that you did not bring all of this to managements attention. I certainly would have, and I also would have asked for another room that was clean. There is no excuse for this filth, other than management not being told, so they could not correct the situation. Just a question....were you in the Villas or the hotel?

Wow, so sorry you had bad housekeeping. We were there last week also at the BC 12/10-12/13 and had just the opposite experience. Our room was very clean and was kept that way the whole time. Every day, when we left in the morning, the housekeeping carts were out in the hallway already. We really enjoyed our stay there - it is a beautiful resort.

Sorry that happened to you. We've had experiences like that twice at Disney. Once at All Star Movies and once at POR alligator buyou bld 14. I waited til the next day at POR, then went down to the front desk with my digital camera in hand to show them the pictures. The shower curtain was filled with mold (something so thick it couldn't possibly form over night, there was a red stain on the pillow, a sticky green blob on the cover, and something crusty on the bed spread, and smashed mosquitos on the walls. By afternoon, they had the room all fixed up. They asked me not to wait so long if it ever happens again. They said to touch housekeeping on the phone and ask to speak to a manager.

The All Star Movies disgusting room was quite awhile after the POR one. This time we found skittles, pills, popcorn, dust bunnies under the bed. We found toothpicks along the walls, and other things embedded where the wall and carpeting meet. We had adjoined rooms, and the other room had a some debris on the floor it was nothing like the other room. I called housekeeping right away and explained to person on the phone. She wanted me to talk to a manager. I spoke with the manager and he came to our room to inspect. He said he would have someone there in an hour. If we would leave the room and visit a park or something, it would be ready by the time we got back. We got back to the room around 9pm, and nothing had been done that we could see. So I went to the front desk since we were going to the food court anyway. 10pm and still no one showed up, so I called housekeeping from the room. A guy came armed with a vacuum, broom, and garbage bags. He went into speed mode and cleaned the room. It took him 20 minutes to vacuum, get the debris from under the bed, and the stuff embedded between the carpet and the wall from both rooms. All the debris he recovered, he saved in a bag to show the night time manager. We tipped him for his hard and quick work. The rest of the stay was fine.

These are only 2 incidents out of the many times we stay at Disney each year. Our last stay was for Mousefest at CBR and our room was spotless when we entered!

Sorry about your stay in a dirty room. This is unacceptable for the price you pay. IF the rooms are going to be consistently nasty and dirty and they can find enough housekeepers maybe Disney should stop raising it's prices. Just a thought. When I pa $400 a night for the Poly I will not expect to find a dirty room. Housekeeping was only alright when we stayed there but nothing horrendous.

Funny side note about outside cleanliness of the resort. The last time we stayed at POR (probably 2002), we spotted a Sprite can near the stairs of one of the mansion buildings. We took note of the can in the exact same location everyday for the whole week we were there. It became kind of funny, and I'm pretty sure that Sprite is probably still going strong. Nonetheless, it was a wonderful time.

I should have signed up and cleaned my own room. The $$$$ would have come in handy towards the bill on the room.

Just so that people understand. These things didn't happen every day. (Except the dust and the petrified cracker). When we left a note the things were done the next day. Again except for the dust and the cracker. My issue is why should I have to leave a note. In my second post,#10 I explained why I didn't call managment. Not saying I was right just telling ya what I was thinking at the time.

I know why you didn't want to call anyone, and I can understand. But I think if something bothers you, you should call housekeeping & complain. Or if food is cold or nasty, let the manager of the restaurant know. The 'girl' might not understand your problem, but a CM at Housekeeping could help.

I've stayed onsite a number of times--I've never had any problems. And I usually stay at value resorts.

We stayted at the BC a few weeks ago, and the first day we had some problems. I got back to the room around 2:30, and the room wasn't cleaned, so I went to the pool because I figured they say it will be clean, and it wasn't yet. When I got back to the room at 4, it still wasn't clean. My MIL then got back to our rooms (they were connecting), and called. They said they would send someone right up. We left for a while, and when we got back around 6ish, it was still not clean. She called up and told them, and they were like, did you have your privacy sign out or something, and we have no record of your earlier call. She was pretty upset, and so finally, while we were gone for dinner, someone cleaned our rooms. But they left no new soap, or towels. She called back AGAIN, and they brought what she asked for. After that day, we had no more troubles. They probably left a note or something that a crazy lady was staying in that room, don't mess with her, LOL. Whatever works!

For the record, we have been lots, and my MIL & FIL and been more than 40 times, and have never had other issues.

Liltoot -
We were in a 1BR villa at BW and ran into a room that had some issues as well. Shower had black mold in it, good deal of mold/soap scum around the bathroom faucets, and perhaps the grossest part of it all...most of the dishes, glasses & flatwear was very dirty (but in the cabinets).

Yeah - I could have complained, but I just didn't feel like getting into it. I took care of the faucets and threw everything into the dishwasher. However, I walked away also feeling that this isn't a motel or low-priced inn where this type of cleanliness may be expected. For the price tag involved here, you would just expect it to be clean. That's not unreasonable and I totally get why you put up the posting.

That's awful! Our room at POFQ was like that.

We switched to the Yacht Club (Beach Club sister resort) and that was super clean.

Go figure. :confused3

I was at the BC from 12/9 to 12/17. The second day we had HORRIBLE mousekeeping. The beds were all rumpled up...there were no towels, garbage that must have fell out of the can was on the floor, etc. My DBF called up and got the manager of housekeeping and complained to her, the sent someone right up to fix everthing, gave us $100.00 credit and we got at least one towel animal everyday of our stay(we were told to keep them). The rest of the week my room was perfect. If there is a problem, I do not understand why you would not bring it to their attention. They will never know who is not doing their job correctly if you do not complain about it.

Being new to the DIS Forum I have spent the last few weeks reading thousands of posts. Do I detect a trend? Is the lack of service, decorations, magic at WDW getting worse or am I making a mountain out of a mouse hill?

I've been 37 times since December of 1998. YES! You DO detect a trend! It has been Obvious to this regular visitor for quite some time that maintainance and cleaning are going down hill.

You NEVER used to see a full trash can, messy ladies room, dirty pool deck, but you sure do now. You never used to see hour long waits to check in, even at the values, but you do now.

Training has been cut for new cast members, so they don't know the traditions they're supposed to be upholding. CMs are asked to do more in the same amount of time. Staff in many areas has been cut. Fewer people are supposed to do the same amount of work. Contractors are being hired (for cost not capability).

I think that's why Disney likes to court new guests rather than repeaters - the new ones don't remember how clean and magical it "used to be". And, they'll think it's wonderful, since it's still much better than the outside world.

What a bummer! While I agree that nobody can fix your problem unless they know it exists - I also feel that you shouldn't have had a problem in the first place!

Are the Mousekeepers Disney employees or are they contractors?

I believe they are definately WDW Employees.

After 12+ visits to WDW since '99, I have had some great housekeeping, as well as some not so great housekeeping. I have found stuff on the floors, left it and never had it taken care of. I have seen coating of dust on armoires, dirt on the floors. I have also seen great cleanliness.
However, I just stayed at the Dolphin from 12/7-13. I was amazed at the standard of cleanliness there. Not one single afternoon did I come back to my room and find any evidence of the baby powder I had used that morning, on the floor. Not the case at the Disney owned resorts. My floor seemed to be vacced everyday...or they hand picked lint and such off the floor!!!! The tub and shower area was incredibly clean...even behind the door (and yes, I checked!!) I just can't believe there was such a difference. Perhaps I just lucked out and got some great housekeepers...don't know, but the difference was amazing!
