Hi Im thinking of a beach break for a couple of days when I travel to Orlando in April and Had St Petes in mind. Does anyone know if this is a good idea and can anyone reccomend a good hotel that would be suitable for families? (I have 2 boys under 3).
Thanks Jo

I agree that St.Petes (or Clearwater) would be good location(s) for a break.
The beaches on this coast are much nicer than on the East Coast, although they are further away from Orlando.

Sorry cannot recommend a hotel as we have never stayed overnight in the area, I am sure you will find something though.

Also, I see your countdown has gone wrong too - any ideas as to why?
Mine is the same.

the old countdown do not work as a block has been put on html(?) links.
You can delete the old one in your user pc and download a new one from tickerfactory.com

We've stayed at the Holiday Inn Suites twice on St Pete's beach and have no problem recommending it. It has nice rooms, all with a water view, either gulf (beach) or the inland waterway, whcih is actually more interesting because we've always seen more dolphins and birds in there than in the gulf. The sunsets from the pool area and beach here at to die for - fabulous.

The hotel is right on the beach, with a nice pool too. There are restaurants, a Publix and souvenir shops just down the road, all within walking distance.

Also stayed (a few eyars ago) in the Sirata, which is next door to the Holiday Inn, now part of the Tradewinds, also very nice.

We recently stayed at Clearwater for 5 nights at the Holiday Inn Sunspree.
I drove along the coast road to St Petes and it takes about an extra 25 minutes on top of the 1 1/2 hours to get to Clearwater from Orlando.
Personally, from what I saw, I'd try Clearwater. The Hilton Clearwater Beach Hotel looked nice and was alongside Pier 60 where there is a sunset party every night as the sun goes down  DD was entranced by some performing dogs rescued from the dog pound :earsgirl:
I only saw the beach and a few shops at St Petes but, to my mind, Clearwater was more of a 'seaside place' with a play area by the pier and maybe more to do with your boys. :) Maybe if I'd spent more time at St Pete's I would have thought differently.
Have a great holiday.
