I am under the impression that you can not go in the water at the beaches at the resorts. I was looking at pictures that have been posted (don't remember where) and it looks like people are in the water. So can someone please tell me can you go in the water. Thanks Michelle

You cannot swim in the water, but you can rent boats. Also, at CR, I believe you can go parasailing.

You are not supposed to go in the water at the various beaches, but on our stays we have observed numerous people wading out into the water.

As a side note, when WDW first opened, swimming was briefly allowed in Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. I believe that was discontinued for health reasons (bacteria, etc. in the water) as well as the fact that alligators can occasionally be found in those waters.

When the Poly first opened, you definitely could swim in the Seven Seas Lagoon, in fact they had a wave machine.

Now because of the bacteria (most FL lakes have posting not to total immerse yourself), numerous water craft, and the occasional alligator.

I do see people wading in a roped off area, or sand chairs in the water.

We didn't stay at the Polynesian until !983 so we missed the wave machine but for many years swimming in the lake was the norm. There was even a roped off area. The water was also fairly clear and even looked blue in postcards. The first year that they posted no swimming type signs we were told it was because of amoebae in the water. I've seen and heard so many stories since then...who knows? However the last I knew waterskiing was still allowed on Bay Lake.

I was one of the lucky ones to experience the wave machine! Guess I'm old ;) We were swimming in the lagoon on our honeymoon and I remember Goofy skiing into shore! Ah the good old days. As time went by, the signs started appearing as to no swimming. :( I believe one of my children was able to swim before that all happened.

I don't remember the wave machine but I do have lots of video of my children swimming in the lagoon in the roped off area. They still had the area roped off last summer but I wouldn't go in the water. Oh those were the days.
