We will be going to Tucson in March2010 and for my DD bday thought we would go the extra miles to the DL area. planning on 3 days-first morning driving the few hours to hotel then a beach-which beach is closest/family friendly to DL?

I'm sorry no one has responded yet.

Maybe you can give us a hint as to your children's ages and what you want to do with your beach time. Shelling? Shopping? Sandacastle-building? Taking a walk on the pier/beach/waterfront? There are several good beaches easily less than an hour from Disneyland. They will all have the same cold Pacific Ocean water!

Also, check some other threads further down in this section of the board -- a beach day is a popular thing to do when visiting DLR.

We like 2, Huntington beach and Newport beach.
We are a family of three with a now 11 year old daughter, but have been going to these two beaches since she was 6.
Both are really nice clean beaches with lots of activities around.
They are about 5 min away (by car) from each other, and about 25 min away from Anaheim.
Hope this helps, I am not an expert on the area since we live so far away, but I thought I would give you something to go on.

Also, Ruby's at Huntington is really nice to eat at. It is on the end of the pier, and the last time we were there 3 dolphins were jumping and playing right in front of us. It was fabulous!

that sounds awesome! I will have to look at both beaches! As for the earlier posters question, we would love to do all those things at the beach! :rotfl2: I do realize we cannot do it all though! My DK's are 15,14 and 8. The 15 year old will turn 16 while on the trip and she is the one requesting the day at the beach.......she actually has requested Laguna Beach, but I do not know anything about California beaches! Any advice is appreciated!

Laguna Beach is beautiful but quite aways from DL - she will love Huntington Beach - I have 3 teens and they loved it!

laguna beach is definitely a good place to go. im there almost every day of the week. huntington beach is packed most of the time. a lot of activities especially during the weekend. i was there earlier today and they closed 3 blocks of main st cuz of a fair.

both cities are quite a drive from DL tho

Newport Beach!!!! If you head down the Newport peninsula, you'll find the fun zone, Ruby's restaurant on the Balboa pier, great beaches, and a ferry over to Balboa island (shops and restaurants on Marine Avenue.) There is a playground at the elementary school right on the beach with a beautiful view of the ocean near 13th street, and the Stuft Surfer is a tiny burger place with picnic tables on the sand at 15th Street. (Fry's market on 15th also sells little beach toys, etc.) I loved it as a child, and our boys love it now!

We've been to Huntington and Laguna, too, and there are very good things to say about both. But we love Newport - been vacationing there almost annually for almost 30 years!
