I was buying some juice at our local country store and the cashier gave me new 1's for change. She said "Be careful, those are new." My profound answer was "Thanks," and I walked off. I still can't figure out why I was told to be careful? Maybe a high risk of paper cut? Maybe she didn't want me folding new bills? What do you think? :confused3 I've been confused about this for over 24 hours now. :teeth:

New dollar bills stick together... she was probably helping you not lose them! :)

Well, I know from cashiering experiance, that it is very easy to give too many of a new bill. They tend to not seperate as easy, and you could give 2 or 3 instead of just one.

She was warning you that new bills tend to stick together. I know I've had a hard time seperating them and a couple of times gave an extra bill away to someone.

My experience is that new bills like birds of a feather, stick together.
You have to be careful you don't hand 2 of them away when the charge is $1.

I was just going to same the same thing.

I'm guessing that maybe she was talking about getting a paper cut. I used to do the deposit and safe at a previous job and handled large amounts of money, and I used to get some nasty paper cuts from the new bills.

when i went to the store to buy a movie..(it was Brokeback Mountain.....and here comes the flame i can see it now! hey....i liked the movie.) the cashier was real rude to me and gives me a nasty look and says "you know.....i really haven't sold any of those today".........so i give her the same nasty look back and say ".....uhm......ok?" and she says "well i was JUST saying that i haven't sold many of these yet." and i ask her "is that supposed to mean something?" and then she just had a look of shock on her face and got real nice and said "well the day is still young, i'm sure i'll sell more later!"

nice way to treat your customers.

New bills stick together and you could accidently hand over 2 or 3 bills when you only wanted to give 1.

My mom is a bank teller and she said that it's common for new bills to stick together. When I get new bills, I wrinkle them a little bit so I can count them quicker and easier.

Ok, I feel silly. I didn't even think about them sticking together. That makes so much sense! I do like my paper cut theory though.

DH makes me mad when we go to the ATM and get new bills. Before he gives them to me, he crushes them into a ball. Now I understand the reason, but why mutilate something so beautiful? I guess I should just be thankful that he actually hands them over.
