NEW YORK -- If you are visiting New York City, there is a good chance you are breaking some obscure law -- and you could get a ticket.

The New York Daily News reports that some New Yorkers are fuming over getting tickets for doing things that no one knew were against the law.

Here's a list:

-- An 86-year-old man got a ticket on April 18 for feeding pigeons in Morningside Heights, Manhattan.
-- Another man got a ticket a week ago because his license plate is framed by a car dealer's holder.
-- A tourist from Israel got a ticket for falling asleep on the subway and taking up more than one seat.
-- A man got a ticket Wednesday for putting his newspapers for recycling in a cardboard box, instead of tying them.
-- A couple in Brooklyn got a ticket because their car hung over their driveway by a couple of feet.
The Patrolmen's Benevolent Association has taken out ads saying that cops are just hard-working family members who are under pressure to write tickets.

looks like you didn't copy the whole article Tony.

but the truth of the matter is, the cops have to meet "unwritten" ticket quotas. they're not happy about it either. but given the choice of ticket quotas (for things that are, indeed, illegal) or closing firehouses, well, what would you do?

the reason for the quotas is a real shortfall in the budget.

and that can be blamed on Gov. Pataki and Pres. bush, who renegged on their promises to this city.

when i first moved to dc, i got a $50 ticket for jaywalking.

dh has gotten a ticket for drinking water on the metro before...when he was sick and coughing up a lung. they have undercover metro police.

The person who fell asleep did so late at night when the subway was almost empty. I can't believe you can't drink water on a train!!??

Bloomberg has gotta do what he's gotta do, he can't pay for things with monopoly money.

So when your house is burning, and the firehouse nearest to you has been closed down, I'm sure you'd be just as understanding...

Mike's just got to cope with what he's got, while Pataki vetos bailouts from Albany. guess the promises George made to Rudy don't count.

Tony what is your problem with NY and NYC? Now stop picking on my home state or I'll start on TN ;)

they'll never be as bad at pigeon forge and gatlinburg cops in the summer near forth of july

They handed out over 19,000 in 2 days last year at the car show I was at

Not picking on NYC...the article was funny...I can't imagine anyone getting tickets for some of this stuff. Guess it's just my WARPED sense of humor.....:p

"Sir...you can't feed that pigeon....It's against the law. Now we have to put you in jail....next to the lady with the license plate holder"

I would start with an audit of city finances.....if that didn't work...do like every other city does to increase the budget. raise taxes......
