We were just there last week, savanna view room. About 10pm, we couldn't sleep so we went out on the balcony and closed the sliding glass door behind us...and it LOCKED from the inside. We got trapped out there, in our pajamas! Thank GOD we had a cell phone so we had to call the front desk for help. But we had already put the safety lock on the door so it took some time of them playing around to get in the room and let us back in. We were mortified! I told the lady it seemed like a bit of a safety issue that the doors could lock like that! So anyone staying there....be careful and don't shut the door all the way!

Yikes! Glad they were able to get through the safety lock. We've shut our balcony door several times without issue. I wonder what happened?

That exact same thing happened to us where we got locked out at AKL! We also were lucky that we had a cell phone on us since it was literally our first few minutes in the room. Even the CM who came to save us was a bit surprised by how the safety luck/pin thing dropped down like that. She said that the pin shouldn't be turned that particular way.

Exactly! But our CM said it does sometimes happen. So apparently it happens enough that they really should do something about it!

I'm a little worried about that! I'm sure the kids will love to be in and out of the room, but we can't have anyone getting locked out!

This happened to me once at my old apartment. Ever since then, I've been paranoid about completely closing any sliding glass door behind me when I go out on a deck/balcony/patio, no matter where it is. I always leave the door cracked... Just in case.

I'm wondering why you would shut that door unless you didn't want to wake the kids or let humidity in the room.

I guess this can happen at any resort. I'm not closing door all the way anymore. ESP in August I always close balcony door behind me to keep out the heat & humidity.

At least you'll have a funny story to tell! When we were there last year with or 2 year old, he loved sliding the door open and shut. I was definitely worried he might lock us out there.

I never close the balcony door when I'm out on the balcony. I close it so that it's open a few inches. I'm always afraid it will lock behind me!
I doubt any 'critters' are going to get in my room, with me out there. And I've never, ever had an issue with mosquitoes in WDW.
I'll be doubly careful now. Thanks.
