Be aware if traveling to WDW within the next few days

I was there from 1/9 - 1/15 and stayed healthy!! I was at ASMu and also did the marathon. Didn't do anything special to avoid it other than the obvious: washing hands and keeping my hands away from my face. Seems this bug has run it's course. I hope all that are there now or leaving soon have a wonderful time!!!!

My nephew and my sister are currently staying at POP. My nephew came down with the bug 3 days ago and hasn't left the room since. I talked to my sister today and she said that she now has it too. They were so sick last night that they called the paramedics. They brought them some water and Immodium and said that is all they can do for them unless they want to go to the hospital. They are trying to tough it out until they leave for home. I know I would not want to be the unlucky person to stay in that room next. Yuck! I am glad we got through our December trip with no problems.

We just got back too. We stayed at POR Riverside from 1/11-1/18. And thankfully (knock on wood), none of us have been sick. We have had moments of feeling slightly less than stellar but that may have been because we ate more than we normally did and we ate dessert every day. Sometimes more than one at a meal! :)

We did eat at one buffet (Biergarten), mostly stayed away from our hotel's food court and carried around our Lysol hand spray. I also sprayed the hotel room surfaces daily with Lysol.

I can definitely say that the Ghiradelli and the Virgin ladies restrooms were way, way dirtier than the Disney restrooms.

I've never heard of this. Is this safe to do?

It's not harmful, but that's why I prefer a food based oil (especially being so close to the brain). It moisturizes without the added chemicals and ingredients. :) But I guess I'm just "weird" like that.

I have a Ghiradelli story that will make you feel good about eating there. I was waiting in the ladies room while my DD was going to the bathroom and an employee came out of the other stall, washed her hands really well, and then used a paper towel to open the door to go back to the restaurant.

I actually said to her on her way out "thank you so much for washing your hands, I just came back from the hospital with food poisoning and I really appreciate you taking the time to keep me safe." :flower3:

She was like, oh, no problem and thank you!

the bathroom was fairly clean when we were there, btw.

Which building should I avoid next week?

Okay, I have read a good portion of this thread and just - wow! Hugs to all of you who got ill on vacation and to those of you heading to WDW soon. How awful to experience this anywhere, much less on what is hoped to be a vacation of a lifetime.

I am one of those people that gags the minute I see someone else do so. I can only imagine how horrible this had to be for many of you. :grouphug:

After 9 days at WL and touring all the parks, I will say I doubt too many people have sanitized nearly as much as we did. Honestly, it was exhausting. I was stressed before we left about this thread knowing what a huge chore it would be and it was. I think we went through 10 wet wipes just at Boma because we sanitized after every trip to the bufffet, but you know people stick the tongs on the food so how much good it did, I don't know!

I was starting to relax after the 1st 24 hours thinking the virus was gone, but then it happened. I was awakened at 3am by toilet flushing upstairs. I decided to visit the restroom since I was up and I heard the vomiting. Ick. And the toilet kept flushing and flushing. This was a nightmare and I didn't even have the virus - just imagining it. It really threw me for the whole day - didn't even want to return to the lodge. But we just focused on sanitizing even more.

And I am happy to say it worked with my DD. She did not get sick (not yet at least) and was able to go to all the princess things we planned. This was our first and one and only trip for several years so I didn't want it spoiled. My DH did however pick something up - he thinks food poisoning from Epcot counter service. It was very short and kind of lame for a virus and IMO, maybe a mental one!

I never saw evidence at any of the parks of the virus, but there were rumors about others at WL who were sick.

Our "secrets" for not getting sick were my UV-C light, wet wipes, 70% alcohol sterilizer used to a ridiculous amount, not letting housekeeping clean (I sanitized heavily on arrival and got "rid" of most of their bedding), lots of vitamin C, Airborne (this is for respiratory issues), pro-biotics twice a day, tons of garlic pills for me and roasted garlic chips with meals for my DD. My DH went off part of the "plan" a day or so before he got sick.

Some will likely say it was all wasted effort and stress and potentially insanity, but the fact my DD did not get sick makes it all worthwhile! Sorry for those who got ill and good luck to everyone going. I definitely don't think it is widespread and it is nearly impossible to prevent all possible exposure so if you aren;t a germophobe, maybe it is not even worth worrying about?!?

Can you tell me where your room was located?

Norovirus lives for up to 3 weeks on undisinfected surfaces. I have an immune-compromised child. When the reports eased up, I decided not to ask for a special cleaning but, now, two days before we leave, I am having huge regrets about it.

It's not too late to call and request the special cleaning. With an immune-compromised child, I absolutely would request this cleaning.

Definitely do the special cleaning. My oldest was immune-compromised from long term Prednisone use. He picked up Salmonella during this time. A healthy child would have been fine, but we spent ten of the most miserable days in Children's hospital in isolation.

I didnt know that you could request "special" cleaning. How do we know they are actually doing special cleaning though? We arrive @ Coronado Resort February 14. If I were to call and request this, what exactly do I say?

I want the special cleaning.....??

My niece and her family were there and stayed at *** in Aug and the day after they came back was first day of school. Her son said he didn't feel well and she thought it was first day jitters, she told him to get dressed...well he ended up puking his guts out and admitted into the hospital for dehydration.

One of the best ways to keep from getting sick is to NOT rub your nose or your eyes with your hands. That is the quickest routes to your bloodstream. If I have to scratch/rub my nose I I use the inside of my wrist and if I have to rub my eye I reach down and pull up the collar of my shirt and dab my eye with the inside of my shirt. I still get sick sometimes but I hope I am missing some of the sicknesses.

Ok guys,

I wanna know the latest on the sickness down there in WDW. Is it dying down a bit?

We have been down here since 1/17 at WL and (big knock on wood) no sign of anyone getting sick anywhere we have been. I did spray EVERYTHING with lysol when we arrived (the iron, all knobs, tv, etc, etc, etc) and I spray down the stroller with lysol too. I am hoping we make it to the end of the week but I have not seen any sign of it :cool1:
