Noticed this on the DVC website. Now I can listen to CD's while unwinding after one of those Disney Park marathon days. :)

That is nice! Besides, DVD's travel so much better than VHS tapes. We usually take a couple tapes *just in case* mom and dad need some downtime. In December we took two evenings to watch It's a Wonderful Life and White Christmas. We had hung a strand of Christmas lights in our room. It was a lot of fun and I think we've started a new family tradition. :)

Where on the website? The descriptions state all one and two BR will have a VCR..nothing about a DVD player.

The vitual tour pictures show a VCR as well.

Please explain where you saw this, or correct this misinformation.

I looked everywhere as well and finally found it ... If you go on the site and go to the BCV resort and then click on accomodations and amenites. Then on the right hand side you will see a box thats says compare rooms, click on that, at the bottom of that chart is says DVD, hopefully it wasn't a error since the other descripton says VHS.

And if you click on compare resorts, just below compare rooms, it says that Beach Club Villas will have 4 swimming pools.

Dumbo

Dumbo, actually, since BCV includes all the amenities of the Y&B Club there is 4 pools, The quiet pools at BC, YC, BCV and then SAB.

No misinformation here. Took me a while to find this on the DVC site but then again I really check the site out and I know others just skim thru it.

Forget about your VCR. It's dead and buried--old news and an obsolete technology. In a few years you won't even be able to find a VHS tape to rent--the stores will ONLY stock DVDs.
DVDs have been the most rapidly embraced technology in history, selling even faster than CD players when they first appeared.
And, this year DVD decks which record as well as play will go on sale. In a few years they'll be $200. Then it's goodbye to the magnetic particles that drop off VHS tapes and clog your heads.

That's why I asked where you found that on the site since two areas on the site contradict the idea...so which are we to believe- the part of the site that shows pictures of VCRs and states that each unit will have a VCR or the comparison chart that mentions DVD players? ADDENDUM--VERY INTERESTING BUT THE WEBSITE HAS BEEN CHANGED! THE DESCRIPTIONS OF AMENITIES NOW SAY DVD NOT VCR- Do you think someone is monitoring our messages?

Gosh, I hope that it is the DVD player! That would be great and I hope that means that the other DVC resorts will upgrade to this feature! Like Mooobooks said, "It's dead and buried....old news and an obsolete technology" VCR is a thing of the past!:smooth:

I am a DVC member from the UK.

As a result I would welcome dual standard (NTSC/PAL) VHS, plus dual standard DVD (Regions 1 & 2) so I can bring films with me.

I tried to borrow a VHS one night from the Boadwalk clubhouse, but they had the most dismal, out of date selection immagianable.

Anyone know of a video rental store onsite?

Also most new VCRs on sale in the UK now will playback NTSC tapes on our PAL TVs. Is the reverse true of VCRs in the USA? Will they play back PAL recorded tapes on NTSC TVs?

Andrew

Sorry, Andrew, but the normal VCR selling in the US is still NTSC only. I've seen a few dual standard units, but they are pricey.
Here's a question...are DVD players already "dual standard" since the media is digital, doesn't PAL, SECAM and NTSC only come into play after the DVD is read, and then goes to the output of the machine, so the machine actually reads ANY DVD then plays it in the format the machine is designed to send the signal in?

I wish our VCR's could play PAL tapes. Then I'd snag me a copy of Song of the South somewhere and not have to worry about converting it for $$$!!

If Disney IS monitoring these messages.....WE WANT SONG OF THE SOUTH ON DVD!!!!!!

Movies and other media are burned with a regional code. Some players will allow you to play "regional " DVD's others will not
I have one of the older model DVD players and once and awhile I have to manually get it to read a DVD movie that comes up with the "regional code" message. The other DVD player I have does not give me the problem.
The new DVD burners will not copy a DVD movie onto a DVD. There is some code in the software that prevents this. So, while they may become less expensive, until you can find the code that will override this "safety", you cannot copy DVD movies.

Do you mean they wll have DVD and Cd players in the rooms??? I didint know you could listen to a CD in a DVD player???? What abou the other DVC resorts?????

The okw rooms now say dvd players, too. Possibly they are adding them to all rooms. And as far as the comments about vcrs being absolete (sp?), they aren't now b/c i have about 200 vcr tapes and 2 dvds, and i doubt this will change in 2 years.

Antnee,

Yes you can listen to CDs in DVD players. The only issue is sound quality, as in the villas you will have to listen to them through the speakers in the TV.

I am hoping they are making the switch to DVD, or even better would be a DVD/VHS combo player so guests could use either one easily.

Mike
