This is the other topic I mentioned in my trip report...
When we had Trash and Towel service on our most recent trip, we were still in the room. (I had left a tip for our mousekeeper on the entry way table with a note saying it was for her).

Anyway, she left without taking it or noticing it, so I stuck my head out the door to give it to her and her cart was gone, but our bag of trash was sitting there in the hall.... :earseek: :earseek:

I was a little bit annoyed to find trash in the hall--especially OUR trash. I picked up the discarded bag of trash and took it to the trash room. Our mousekeeper was servicing the room right across from the trash room and she seemed a bit surprised that I was putting the trash away and she asked why I didn't let her throw it away? (I told her that we didn't leave our trash out in the hall.... )

Anyway, it was a topic of conversation with DH. His observation the next day, more bags of trash littering the halls (as the mousekeeping staff are making their way through the halls). His take, not only are the bags an eye sore, but they could pose a health risk. The trash bags are thin to begin with and they typically contain kitchen trash (coffee ground, et'c) and kids then come through the halls in their bare feet (Yuck)...

I was thinking that we used to stay in the Beach Club and I don't recall ever seeing the mousekeeping staff toss bags of trash out into the halls to be collected later. So, why is it different in the Villas? Do they need to refit their carts or add another cart on for trash collection purposes? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

YEAH!!!! That under no circumstances should a bag of trash be left in the hallway by anyone let alone a mousekeeper! :earseek:

That cannot possibly be the policy--to leave it and come collect it later.

I have to totally agree with you.....we were in OKW for 5 nights in December(our home resort is Beach Club) and it was annoying to find trash left out, and laundry was also left outside doors for a couple of days....The way I look at it we should be treated like regular guests in Disney...and the way I see it we have invested more in Disney than a lot of other people....no special treatment asked for....just the way Disney usually handles things...first class....maybe member services should be contacted and informed....if that does not work I don't know who should be spoken to.....

I too noticed trash in the hall at BCV last July. I wondered, is it allowed to go to the trash room and toss your own trash or is the door usually locked? I would love to be able to toss our extra garbage away instead of having it pile up in our unit. When we were at OKW, with 8 of us, we made a lot of trash, but we couldn't find anywhere to throw it away; figuring that they would rather have mousekeeping do it. Obviously, they cant put dumpsters in the lots (yuck, smell, rodents, etc) but maybe if they made the garbage room more accessible (ie let me know where it is.) I wouldn't mind at all tossing my own garbage...even on vacation just to get it out of our unit.

We ran into this problem at the BCVs over Easter last year. We were just leaving for a late breakfast when Mouskeeping came in for T&T. When we came back, I was surprised to see MY TRASH in the hall! After all the discussions on this board, I sure didn't want to be labeled as "ONE OF THOSE" who leave it in the hall for all to experience.

Needless to say, DH hauled it to the trash room pronto!

We were there this past December and did not see a lot of trash in the halls.

mtdewhead,
I can't say where they all are, but we noticed there was a trash room at the end of our corridor on floor1. We were in the same wing in November, but up one floor and we noticed it was in the same location on floor 2 (I assumed that they are above each other on each floor). I'll look around for a resort map--for a more precise location.
It is unlocked--so folks can make all the contributions they want. :) It isn't any big deal to take it down the hall and empty the trash, so we usually make daily runs. (I also made sure that DH showed DS-15 where it was, so he could go, too :) ).

You can call the Housekeeping manager if you want to know policy on dealing with it.

My guess would be the housekeeper sets it outside of each unit as she cleans then picks them all up when she has finished all of her units. If she is across the hall cleaning a unit, I am not sure it is a good use of her time to go down the hall to dispose of it right then.

If she finishes in that area and leaves it, then I would have a complaint with that.

Sammie,
That is exactly what happened. She was no longer in the corridor and our lonely trash bag had been tossed out in the hall... Ironically, her cart was just outside of where the trash room was...

But, I still have a problem with tossing trash bags on the carpeted area because they do leak.

Now, I am thinking I should have called housekeeping, but I guess I was so shocked to see our trash bag out on the floor (and I don't like seeing trash in the hall, either) that I felt it needed to be dealt with immediately.

I noticed this daily on our 2 week trip to BWV...I've not noticed it so much before...but it seems that there is a houseman that goes through the halls and picks up trash and towels....one day I did notice them doing this...

It does make the hallways seem unkept for that period of time during the day...

I wonder if this is a case of penny wise, pound foolish - i.e. is it less expensive process for HK to leave the trash in the hall and then collect at once - save HK $ and dues

Saves Pennies

But, then more damage to the hallways, carpet etc. leading to more cleaning, earlier replacement etc.

Costs Pounds

thanks

I would call Mousekeeping when this happens. There is no reason for it.:o

I personally empty mine myself once or twice a day, just to keep my villa neat & tidy. ::yes::

I noticed trash in the hall at BCV last June. It left a bad first impression. I thought it was guest leaving it and I wondered why HK did not pick it up as I saw they were in the area. I took digital pics but I have never sent them to Disney. I doubt that uper management knowsa this is going on. Call member services and voise your opinion.

Looks like the e-mail address doesn't work. Anyone know the new one? Is there a new member satisfaction manager?

Obviously this is NOT the way housekeeping is doing it at the non-DVC resorts. Why would they treat DVC resorts differently? I agree that stuff can leak out of the trashbags and stain the carpet -- carpet that we have to pay to replace. In addition to the eyesore of seeing trash bags lining the hallways. I would like to see this practice stopped. It could also encourage guests to leave their trash in the hallways instead of running it down to the trash room, thinking that this is the expected or appropriate thing to do with trash bags.

I wish this were the case. We checked in on a Sunday last Sept and the previous tenants trash was outside our room. I never called because I didn't want to spend any of my time on trash issues. I heard about the trash in the hall complaints on this board and I wondered how long it would take to pick up. I assumed not more than 24 hours. I was wrong. The trash was picked up on Wed. This is an issue and from now on I will call immediately and every 2 hours thereafter. I don't think more staff need to be hired to keep trash out of the halls. It should be covered in our dues.

I found the same thing at BWV the first week of December. The housekeepers left the garbage bags in the hall and a guy came along and picked them all up. One afternoon I left the room to go out and I had a bag of trash in my hands to drop off in the trash room on the way to the elevator and he was coming down the hall in the opposite direction and took it out of my hands saying "that's my job!". I never saw any left in the evening, they were always picked up by the time the housekeepers finished their rounds.

Looks like an "a" was left out of "vacation" in the email address.

It should be:

The reply so far --

Thank you for taking the time to write to us. Our Members are very important to us. I have forwarded your concerns to the Walt Disney Executive Committee for review. They will be getting back to you within 3-4 weeks.

Sincerely,

We were at BCV from Jan. 4 through Jan. 9 on the 4th floor (2 different wings) and didn't see any garbage bags or towels in the halls. The housekeeping carts were often double carts, so maybe they're putting the trash & towels in them now.
