BCV Theming

I hate to be one of those complainers, but... I’m gonna anyway.

It’s been several years since we stayed at BCV. I remember the rooms as being very strongly themed, with seashell tiles in the shower, eryndistinct colors tying it to the resort, etc. Just checked in today and it seems like there is not any theming except a couple of beach scene photos on the wall. This could be a nice Hyatt room.

Am I just engaging in “good ol’ days” nostalgia, or did they renovate and downgrade the theming?

Oh, yes-they definitely downgraded the theming. I'm reminded of some man from WDW talking on some show I used to watch who said something about if you build a hotel and you don't like the theming, you'll be sitting there staring at it. It seems that Disney has gotten so afraid of a hotel theme being unpopular that their answer is to do away with theming. Too bad-the theming was one thing that made Disney hotels so popular to me.

Disney is striping the theming from many of their resorts, DVC included.

I haven't been inside BCV yet (3 months) but I have to say when we stayed there in 2015 we thought the room theming was OK but the condition of the room was very shabby. While I admit to liking a nicely themed room, I think I'd rather have a room that doesn't look run down. We stayed at BWV in February and I can see the complaints about the reduced theming, but I didn't think it harmed our enjoyment of the resort.

I do have to sat also this whole minimalist decorating style seems to be common at hotels. Someday we'll look back at the "teens" as 'Remember when all hotels got bland and sterile looking?'

I like the new carpets in the hall and the vinyl flooring in the units. I don't even mind the design so much either. I think the craftsmanship is pretty bad though and cheaply done. They did a much better job with the Vero Beach redo.

They all look like Hampton Inns after they get the full renovation. Polynesian will look just like all the rest after it gets renovation. GFV will be a shame after they get renovated.

I wish that they would leave VGF alone. It's getting that if you like theming, you have to sell your older resorts and buy the new ones as they are built. So sad!

Isn't it lovely the choices Disney gives us these days? We can EITHER have Disney theming or a not-decrepit room, but not both, nosireee...

That's funny, I've called it the "hampton inn villas" many times. I stay about 70-75 nights a year in Hampton inns, and BCV is like a slight decor upgrade from my usual digs. (and "slightly" more expensive AND have to pay for the waffles)

Just wait - in a few years it will still look generic and will also be run down.

Someone awhile back had posted how the decor was now being done so it was "timeless". I mentioned that it will be dated to the 20xx years just like all other decor gets tied to certain periods of time.

I’m in the minority but I much prefer the new rooms. We bought at BCV because we love it here (location,SAB) but always hated the old decor.

I also like the new look. I am not a fan of the 5Th person in a studio, but definitely fine with the look.

The hampton inn lake Buena Vista has make-your-own Mickey waffles in the breakfast area. That's next level!

I agree. Not even sure we're in the minority since it often seems unhappy members post more than those satisfied or neutral.

Although I prefer the new decor overall, I miss the louvered shutters separating the tub and bedroom. Made both rooms seem larger and I enjoyed soaking in the tub with a bath bomb while watching something Disney on the TV. i also don't like the platform surrounding the tub now. For me, it makes climbing out of that tub scary!

I’ll take the new look over the old golden girls florals and pastels. I never stayed in the old ones though, so maybe it looked better in person....
