BCV Studio rehab- a hot mess!

We told our housekeeper in person and even brought her into the room and showed her. We also told a cm at the front desk in person when no one ever came by to fix it.

FYI - you want to make the call to maintenance to report the issues. The other two seem to take little upon themselves to report such things. I've always had excellent response to calls made to maintenance and things have been fixed, usually within an hour or two or just half a day or so at most. On our last trip to VGC we checked in and after waiting just a short while got the room notification. When we went up the door lock was literally hanging on by the tips of the screws and we could not even get it to open. We caught a housekeeper who was working on a room across the hall who caught the housekeeper who cleaned our room. She did look a little red faced and apologized that she had meant to contact maintenance but then forgot. The door lock and handle. Hanging by a thread. And she had finished and walked away forgetting.

We were on a DCL cruise when VGF was introduced, I think we got the lowdown on VGF even before it was made public on land. They announced that they listened to members and now you can have 5 in a studio! The overwhelming response was positive.

VGF and Poly studios have split baths with a tub as well as a shower stall. Those studios for 5 work better in my opinion!

Bobbi

Yep! When it's been designed for 5 it's ok IMO. And right up front people know what they are buying. Adding after the fact is changing it too much and just trying to squish it all in as best as possible, which isn't necessarily a positive. It's just something they could make fit.

I've had that happen many times, sadly. One time I called for a running toilet and a maintenance guy actually showed up.... I thought I'd won the lottery!

We've always had excellent response from maintenance. We've probably had to call more times than I wish but I think many either never report issues or the word just never reaches maintenance. A disturbing thing for me was the Poly does not have a "button" to call maintenance. And that response was less than stellar because I don't think I ever actually reached them - probably just the call center.

One time we had a toilet that wasn't attached to the floor (probably a broken flange, but whatever). I called maintenance. The next day called again. The next day called again, asked for a manager who assured me someone would come by. The next day mentioned it at the guest services counter and they said they'd get ahold of the right person for me.

Nobody ever came or even responded after all of that. I'd rather just be told up front that they don't care and that we just have to suck it up and deal, but I guess that would be "bad guest service"... as opposed to just persistently lieing and/or pretending, which is apparently acceptable.

Every resort can have fails but I'm curious where that was? For us BWV has responded within 15 minutes when the Oven door had not unlocked after housekeeping had done the cleaning cycle (and that was around 9PM at night when we were trying to use it), within an hour when we had a drippy faucet on the tub in the master (had to complete change it out) and I think there was one other item. SSR was within 1-2 hours when we had a set of outlets not working (wiring had pulled loose on one of the outlets!) VWL - less than an hour when we needed a different shower head. BLT was much longer for batteries for the TV remote but we went to the parks and they were there when we returned a few hours later. Poly? Eh, not so good but as I said I don't think I actually reached maintenance.

So sad about the ceiling fan. We like them and sometimes they are a need. At Kidani we used it for some white noise. The guest below us had brought a guitar and played for the whole world. He was either on his balcony or had the door open. This was after 10 or so at night. At least the fan cancelled out some of the singing.

As an owner at BCV I am disappointed in the negative reviews of the rehab. I liked the prior beachy theme which led me to purchase here. Hopefully the only positive thing at this resort will not just be the excellent pool. However I still want to see it in person so I can form my own opinion.

By the way, did you notice how small the coffeemaker is? Now that might work for some people, but not for this coffee lover. I have never seen such a small coffeemaker in any DVC room for the 20+ years we have been members. Fortunately, they did bring me a decent (normal) size coffeemaker for the room. I didn't have this problem at Vero, as they kept the large coffeemakers in those rooms that were redone.

The one on the right comes with the new reno, the one on the left I had to ask for.
The small pots have been in the studios for at least two years. We have had to ask for a big pot the last 5 stays.

Now they are cramming 5 into those small studios and the design of the room itself is suffering.
Judging by general reaction on the boards, it seems as though a modest majority of folks are happy about the capacity "increase." I'm not one of them, though, because I agree with Dean:

As I've said many times, studios are really made for 2 people and anytime one decides to do more, it simply adds more to the compromise of studio even in the best of times.

Heck, even when it is just the two of us, I'd rather be in a 1BR so that night owl/early bird issues aren't issues.

Just a comment about requesting a full-size coffee maker. Don't wait until the morning to request one. We made the mistake of doing that and to took us 2 hours before we got one-2 hours without my coffee in the morning makes me VERY grumpy! However, when we did get the full size one, it was brand new, still in the box. We just should have requested it earlier.

Good advice. After being members for 20+ years we know to do a thorough inspection of the room before we settle in. Over the years we have had to have rooms re-cleaned, maintenance fix broken doors, housekeeping deliver missing items, etc. I took one look at the coffeemaker and knew it wouldn't work for us and immediately requested a large one. They brought it up right away. WDW runs their hotels unlike most other hotel companies, and I don't mean that as a compliment.

I've never had the 4 cup pot in any studio, including BCV. But there have been reports of them here and there without a doubt.

Me neither. We've been staying in studios for the past 9 years since my kids stopped traveling with us. This is the first time I've ever had to request a large coffee pot.

Other than the glass missing and I would have called maintenance and asked them about that as that is a maintenance issue, I am one that loves the new decor and no drawers is fine with me in the bathroom as I never used them. It's kinda gross to me actually.

I would love to own that artwork.

The smaller coffee maker has been in studios for some time and no edge protectors.

Beyond that, for that sort of door, the glass is structural. A good pane of anti-shatter glass helps support the door.

Those doors will break easily, collect dust, and are otherwise just a total "you watched too many HGTV shows where they cut corners but it looked nice when staged, didn't you?"

As a custom cabinet builder, I can tell you that the glass is not structural in a cabinet door.

I can't speak to fit and finish and there are some minor issues raised but most of this is simply personal choice. As I've said many times, studios are really made for 2 people and anytime one decides to do more, it simply adds more to the compromise of studio even in the best of times. DVCMC is tasked with making the best decisions possible for such matters and that includes cost, possibly this was part of the issue. The move to 5 in a studio is just going to make these other issues worse, not better.

Yes, this. If someone is interested in or has needs to cook in the room frequently, and needs storage space, they would be best suited in at least a one bedroom. I understand due to ownership chalenges this is not always feasable for all, but the cost verses comfort compromises of putting four or now even five in a studio need to be realised.

I disagree. I do just fine in studios and I do cook a lot in them. I have no need for a one bedroom or for the point cost of the one bedroom- not with just the two of us. Other DVC studios have had enough storage for us. This BCV studio has less than the other studios we have stayed in. It's not the end of the world, but I do think DVC could have done better.

Just left. I like the renovation well enough.

I don't like the lack of ceiling fan. Blah.

In my specific room, the sink in the kitchenette was stopped up, as I found out when I poured a drink in it. The apparent solution was obvious when I tried to wash down the drink: they had cut off the water to the sink.

That's one way to (not) deal with a clogged sink.

One major plus: I want to take that shower head and water pressure home with me.

How do you cook with out a stove?

I guess I don't consider that "cooking". I don't stay in studios often. Didn;t think they even had cook ware. Kind of limited to re heating?

You would likely be amazed at all that can be done in a microwave. Cooking....not reheating.

You can also request items from housekeeping to assist with cooking.

We just returned from a short stay in a studio at BCV in a renovated room. Some pros and some cons. I liked the old decor but it was nice to be in a clean fresh room. Opened the murphy bed to take a peek and it would not latch upon closing, so couldn't put any thing on table that would pull the whole bed down. Maintenance came and fixed while we were at park. When our daughter and her husband checked into the studio next to us, their murphy bed had a chair propped next to it to hold up the bed as it would not latch either. Sensing a design flaw here !

I like the new rooms, except for the hanging clothes in the closet and the small coffee maker. Other than that, I'm good.
